‘Letters of the West: An ABC Book of the Many Plants, Animals, and Other Curious Features of the West’ by Michelle E. Walch & John Maddin – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / September 30, 2014

This is a wonderful A to Z picture book but written at a more advanced level. This is an ideal book for Literacy Programs! Older students would not feel insulted by picture learning as most books portrayed for small children. John Maddin co-authored this book and did the cover and illustrations as well. The pictures are plainly sketched but colorful as well. The book is a hardbound, approximately 9 inch square. As the cover portrays the animals and things of nature are not the usual pictures and alphabet words. Each picture also indicates the scientific name for the object focused on. My review of this book offers a Five Stars rating. * I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

Confessions of a Self-Help Writer Blog Tour & Giveaway! (Ends Oct. 2nd, 2014)
Adult Books / September 29, 2014

Welcome to Confessions of a Self-Help Writer by Benjamin W. DeHaven Book Tour  presented by Tia Sanders at Confessions of a Self-Help Writer By Benjamin W. DeHaven #1 Most-Wished-for-Book of 2014 on Indie Bound for over 10 weeks! Lunge into a funny, audacious, and devastating work of fiction based on factual events. As much a comedy as a tragedy, “Confessions is a unique piece of literature to be remembered for its originality as much as for its significance as a statement about living life in today’s harsh reality.” Explore the psyche of one of the world’s most profound advisors: a Quixotic adventurer who admits freely to lurid depravity, substance abuse, and emotional complexity. Despite personal demons, he’s fooled adherents into a unique reverence and might be responsible for saving more souls than Mother Teresa and Gandhi combined. Hypocrite isn’t a strong enough word for someone who writes self-help books purely for profit. Two of the world’s ten wealthiest used Enzo as a ghostwriter and while they attribute their status in life to Enzo’s words, not a single one willingly admits to knowing him. DeHaven, a patsy in Enzo’s schemes and a recurring voice, shares his own perspective and often…

‘From the Shadows’ by Annette Francine – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / September 28, 2014

This is a heart-wrenching, bitter-sweet love story. Can a Christian and a “heathen” make a “love-match” work? This is a question that two individuals drawn to each other will have to ask several times. Kendall has experienced loss of her husband and has failed to find any other relationship with a man. Bryce is hardened after six years of establishing himself in his career. There is no place in his life for a commitment or a relationship with a woman. He can easily have “one night stands” whenever he feels the need. He is used to getting whatever he wants. Chaos begins when Bryce rents a house in a “tightly” united, conservative neighborhood. Kendall immediately feels suspicious of this new intruder. She is soon faced with the threat of her life when she feels compelled to call 9-1-1 in the wee hours of one morning. Officer Garvy then enters the scene. This story has several twists which keeps the reader constantly guessing about the final “outcome”. There is one very explicit sex scene and quite a lot of crude language in the book. It is realistic, yet the explicitness could easily have been eliminated and the crudeness replaced without…

This Book Tour is presented by… Be sure to check back on Otober 3rd for my INTERVIEW with McBoop & A GIVEAWAY!   Book Synopsis: Can Tiny Tiny Rhino have a fun day? Or will all of his whining get in the way? If you’ve ever been worried to try something new, then Whiny Whiny Rhino is the book for you! The story’s message is like the Mark Twain quote, “I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.” We all get apprehensive when encountering new experiences and this often leads us to avoid ever trying anything new. Just having a little courage to try new things can often lead to a much more exciting and enriching life.  MY REVIEW: Come on…Take a chance! This book is a great tool in assisting parents/leaders to eliminate “whiners”! The authors have effectively pointed out the negative aspects of whining over various situations and in being disagreeable.  The illustrations by this author team are simple, eye-fetchingly colorful and fun! It is slightly excessive though. *This book was sent to me for an honest review,…

THESE ARE CLEAN YET VERY APPLICABLE STORIES TO MODERN TIMES. The Shattered Castles Series, in Five Words Dark: These aren’t terribly happy books. There is, after all, a difference in depicting religion and preaching it. Affirming: Family and family bonds are at the heart of each story. No one’s ever completely alone. Ironic: Well, some of my characters are, at least. But anyone who knows my writing knows my sarcasm.     Title: Shattered Castles Author: E.M. This is a fun new Children’s book with a talented, interesting author! Princess Nevaeh: Lessons on Self- Discovery by Paulette Harper Paperback: 34 pages Publisher: Thy Word Publishing (August 27, 2014) ISBN-13: 978-0989969147 About The Book Six year old Nevaeh wants to be something she already is. She will soon learn that her wish to be a princess takes a little more than just asking. Lessons on self-discovery are taught by her Mimi who makes her understand that being a princess takes work. MY REVIEW: This book is brightly illustrated well in a large amount of pink! Princess Nevaeh visited with her grandmother one day about how to be a good Princess. Her grandmother’s comments were invaluable. The grandmother taught her obedience and selflessness, were keys to becoming an honorable princess. She further elaborates on these characteristics. I do have one problem with one portion of her counsel. Although it is important for children to honor those in authority, they must also be aware not all adults are honorable. A child always must first follow the good things taught by parents and leaders. Sometimes it may be necessary not to obey all adults. The many good things taught far outweigh this…

Grimmtastic Girls: Red Riding Hood Gets Lost’ by Joan Holub & Suzanne Williams – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / September 9, 2014

This is another fun Grimmtastic book for older elementary age or pre-teen age! In this adventure, Red and her friends are playing “detective”, trying to discover the secret of “the map”! Red has always wanted to be an actress. She has the opportunity to try out for a school play. When it is her turn for tryouts, she was devastated at what occurred. Will she ever be able to change things? There is action, mystery, adventure and a little romance in this very clever story. It was very well written and successfully engaged the reader in the story plot. The character felt real and the scenery easily pictured. The book cover and title could not have been created any better. Thus, I feel comfortable in my review of this book by offering a Four and a Half Stars rating. *This book was sent to me by the author for an honest review, of which I have given. I hate to show any partiality but I have loved every one of Marcia Lyn McClure’s Books. My daughters and I could start our own Fan Club for her! I am pleased to Spotlight her and her new book! This Tour & Giveaway is presented by… The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure “Oh! Do link arms with me, Calliope,” Blanche whispered, her brown eyes widening with apprehension. She took Calliope’s arm, tightly linking it with her own. “The old Mulholland house still gives me the willies every time I walk past it. I hate to think on what might have gone on inside. It’s truly terrifyin’!” “Oh, don’t be silly, Blanche,” Calliope said, feigning calm. “Poor Prudence’s lunacy…it’s sad. And besides, her fiendish acts were not committed inside the house. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just…it’s just a sad, empty building.” Calliope Ipswich felt the hypocrite, however, as an uncomfortable shiver of residual dread and unease shuttered down her spine, More than six months had passed since the All Hollow’s Eve when the dangerous state of Prudence Mulholland’s fracturing mind had been revealed to the townsfolk of Meadowlark Lake. And now, each time Calliope thought…

The Trouble With Angels’ by Jordyn Meryl – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / September 5, 2014

The angels, Sid an Camry, were assigned to assist two lonely souls in finding love. The attraction was there but Paige had witnessed the breakup of her parents and sworn off of ever falling in love… especially with any one in her place of work for . Mark, the son of the boss and a new Partner, was definitely off limits. How was Mark ever going to get past her barriers to get to know her? He had never felt this strongly about a person before. This is done definitely a Chic Flick but, nevertheless, fun. The tale is familiar but is written fairly well. Sid offers a bit of humor and Carmy is a delightful “Romantic “. Beware of profanity, crude language and sexually explicit scenes. Lacking in originality, very predictable, and at title that is very misleading, plus, not really fitting, the most I can offer in rating in the review of this book is Three. Stars. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘Lady Emma in Her Land of Wonder’ by Martha M. Harrison – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / September 4, 2014

The heartening message this book brings to all young girls is wonderful! Through very talented rhyming, the story is told of “Lady Emma’s” antics and emotional experiences and how she would deal with them. The tale invites the reader to put themselves in the same position and what they would do. It then gently leads the reader’s thoughts to a positive outcome. It is a perfect book for ages 5 – 10 years of age. Religious leaders will approve of this book as well. The book cover is attractive and very well done by the concepts of the author and Jennifer Harrison as are the inside illustrations. The initial inside illustrations were done by Anca Delia Budeanu. The cover art enhancement is done by Mike Medicine Horse If one studies the detail of its cover, he/she will discover the main jest of the story. My review of this book offers a Five Stars rating. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘Grimmtastic Girls:Cinderella Stays Late’ by Joan Holub & Suzanne Williams Book Review by LAWonder10

The Grimmtastic series are a very unique concept. The authors have cleverly combined Grimm’s Fairy Tales. characters  with modern day “girl talk”. Cinderella is attending the Academy with other Grimm’s characters – Unfortunately her step-sisters are, too. Cinderella has to be very careful not to do anything her sisters can use to get her in trouble or the step-mother will make her live at home where she will slave doing every difficult chore. The tale is definitely different than Grimm’s but easier for Today’s pre-teen and young teen girl to relate with. Perhaps it will be the next powerful series of this age group! I did have a problem with the abrupt ending.  There was no lead–in sentence nor paragraph connecting to the next book of the series. On the book cover, is an eye-catching, bright illustration which complements the story content. A “catchy” phrasing of the title is fitting. The familiar characters conversations are, unfortunately, unrealistic. However, since it is fantasy, let us hope some of it will become reality. Because of good writing style and uniqueness, this book review offers a Four Stars rating although a weak one. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON…

The Diary of a Real Payne’ by Annie Tipton    The Buzz About Books 1 & 2 Book 1: “I am 7 years old, and I loved this book because of EJ’s imagination and how it focused on the real meaning of Christmas. The book made me laugh, and I especially liked the part when EJ used the shopping cart to pretend to be a race car driver. She thought her mom’s scarf was a yellow flag, and she stopped just before she crashed into the display of glue bottles. I liked EJ’s character, and I read the book in about 5 days. When we had “Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day” at school, I dressed up like EJ Payne.
