And when they unleash a new terror on humankind, the victims will wish for death, but will not find it…When the world shatters to pieces around her, will Jennie find the strength she needs to keep going? It is a bizarre dystopian tale about aliens coming to planet earth and destroying the water supply and hovering over major cities causing fear to permeate individuals and families. ‘An Invisible Hand’ by Kathy Golden – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / October 23, 2014

‘An Invisible Hand’ is a story of a woman who discovers a unique healing power. She is very disturbed by the miracles she is silently a part of. During the trauma and distress she experiences, a wonderful friendship is turning to something deeper. She has a few different people she turns to for a clearer insight of her dilemma.  This was a well-written novella. The characters were very real, the background scenes were portrayed well. The main problem I had with the story is, the end felt incomplete. Although it had a finalizing statement at the end, the reader was left wanting a finality to the relationship Belinda and Patrick shared. It could have easily been formulated into a very endearing novel. My review of this book gives it a Four Stars rating. *I received this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS NOVELLA FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘Bagle Boy’ by Avita Gittle – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / October 23, 2014

Bagel boy is a delightful story of a young boy who was excessively in love with Bagels…morning , noon & nights. He lived a terrifying dream which shocked him into changing his eating habits. What a fun way of helping children to avoid excesses and in eating a more “rounded” nutritional diet! The illustrations by Jennifer Chappell  are brilliant and humorous. In her usual style, Aviva ends the story with ten coloring pages with a key sentence – emphasizing the main points- above each page. My review of this book can offer no less than Five Stars. *I was sent this book for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘Kitten & Butterfly’ by Aviva Gittle – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / October 23, 2014

This is the first of the Kitten and Friends series. Before one can even open the book, he/she is “hooked” because of the captivating Book Cover! It is a bright, quality, breathtaking,  illustration created by the extremely talented Tekla Husza’r. The illustrations remain magnificent throughout the book! The thirteen pages of text contain the interactions between the Kitten and the Butterfly in trying to find a common ground. After sharing what they individually can and like to do, they decided they had nothing in common except wanting to be friends. Thus, children are taught even though each of us are very different, friendship can still be developed. At the end of the story are nine coloring pages with a key sentence from the story beneath each one. My review of this fantastic Children’s book offers a strong Five Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FRO AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

Children's Books / October 23, 2014

This is an exciting opportunity for me! When I first began my Blog last year, Aviva was the first to contact me and ask to do an Interview. It was partially through her I got a “jump start” on my review blog. Now I am honored to present Aviva and three of her very clever, colorful books for children. Be sure to check the Children’s section of this site to read my review of each of the books below! 1. Aviva, where did you grow up, how many siblings do you have, what pets did you have, and what type of activities did you do? Growing up in a middle class neighborhood in New York in the 1960s was in many respects a great experience. Without cable TV, the Internet and video games, the fun was outdoors. My sister and I were outside all day long riding our bikes, playing games and hanging out with the other neighborhood kids. We had two collies; mother and son. Also two cats. One a pure-bred Siamese; the other a stray named Fred.  I do feel there is a challenge with the youth and their obsession with electronics. 2.  What are a couple…

‘Moon Jump: The Boy Who Bounced to the Moon’ by Mark Megson & Aviva Gittle – Book Review by LAWoonder10
Children's Books / October 22, 2014

This should be your child’s first chapter book of Fantasy! It is cleverly written – although surreal in places – about a teacher’s challenge to a young student to learn more about the moon. It is simply illustrated with bright colors by Carlos Brito. At the end of each short chapter, a thought question is asked. At the end of the chapters is further key sentences with a picture for your child to color under each sentence. This enhances the cognitive retention of the story. This is also a marvelous book for educators of pre-school and early elementary school. My review of this book offers a Five Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

CRAZY IS NORMAL BY LLOYD LOFTHOUSE Publisher: Three Clover Press (June 14, 2014) ISBN: 978-0986032851 Category: Biographies and Memoirs, Educators Tour Date: October, 2014 Available in: Print & ebook, 386 Pages Multi award winning author, Lloyd Lofthouse kept a daily journal for one-full school year and that journal became the primary source of this teacher’s memoir. “Readers who envision eager students lapping up learning led by a Tiger Teacher will be disappointed. Lofthouse presents us with grungy classrooms, kids who don’t want to be in school, and the consequences of growing up in a hardscrabble world. While some parents support his efforts, many sabotage them—and isolated administrators make the work of Lofthouse and his peers even more difficult. Throughout this memoir, though, Lofthouse seems able to keep the hope alive that there’s a future for each student that doesn’t include jail—thanks in large part to his sixth period journalism class and its incredible editor, Amanda.” – Bruce Reeves Praise for ‘Crazy is Normal’: “Lloyd has written an honest and fascinating story of a year in the working life of a dedicated California public school teacher. This is a must read for those thinking of becoming a teacher, is a public…

Mini Myths: Play Nice, Hercules – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / October 20, 2014

Play nice, Hercules is about a typical toddler boy who is active and athletic. It also, sadly. portrays how many toddlers that age have a peculiar mindset. It is a fun First board book, yet emphasizes to strongly the negative and not the positive. I am not entirely certain it is the best book to discourage bullying and being destructive. It is still well done and illustrated well.  The concept of this series is very clever. Inside the back cover is a short explanation of the Hercules Myth in assisting parental/educator teaching. My Review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. I was sent this book for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

My Review of the Up-coming Movie of ‘The Last Straw’ Featuring Corbin Berensen by LAWonder10! A Must See For All Families!

I FEEL HONORED! I was so excited when I was invited to attend the Premier of ‘The Last Straw’ In Salt Lake City, Utah! This forthcoming Family Christmas movie, inspired by a true story, is about how two neighboring families brought the true Christmas spirit into each of their lives, one “piece” at a time.     This movie, presented by Covenant Communications, Inc. was a very inspiring story which will appeal to all ages! The children were great and most families will find their actions very familiar.. There was a touch of teenager interaction that will certainly appeal to YA . Parents and grandparents will truly relate to different aspects of the movie. Corbin Berensen (of L.A.Law & Psych) did an outstanding performance in the role of Mr. G.  The majority of the acting was very good except for a few scenes in which the mother in the story failed in convincing the audience the sincerity of her part. Considering it was a low-budget film, it eas very enjoyable and uplifting…A Wonderful Beginning to the Christmas Season! ‘The Last Straw’ will be presented in a limited amount of  theaters the first week of November.  For those who live in areas it…

Mini Myths: Be Patient Pandora by Joan Holub & Leslie Patricelli Book Review Tour – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / October 19, 2014

This is a very cute First Book for baby board book. It is really quite comical! In fact, sadly, we just had a very similar situation with a three year old grandson except it wasn’t cupcakes he destroyed but something much more valuable. He just kept pushing parameters as Pandora did. It is so true to how a child ‘s mind works which makes it exasperatedly funnier. The words are very short and simple, with the illustration above the word, which aids a child in learning words. The Illustrations done by Leslie Patricelli are simple but appealing. At the very end of the book, there is a short explanation of the story of Pandora’s box that can assist the teaching of the child. My review of this book offers a Five Stars rating. * I was sent this book in exchange for an HONEST review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE.   The winners of the recent blog hop of Books that need more attention both received amazing books! I just finished reading ‘Gold Manor Ghost House’ by Merry Brown. This is the first if her Trilogy! I was an amazing story!..It will cause one in the mood for the immediate festivities of Halloween! I wasn’t a Horror story (to my relief), nor was it Sci-fi, but closer to the Paranormal. It was definitely unique but very good! Here is my review! During her Senior year of High School, Anna’s dreams were fulfilled when she landed a TV series contract as a co-star in a new Premier series! She was to co-star with  popular actress and a member of one of the leading hit-bands! Her best friend, Corey, had introduced her to his agent. He was happy for this opportunity to come to her. She didn’t have to miss him too many weeks before he was included in her dream…However, complications arose and their long childhood friendship would be severely tested. Through much confusion, Anna questioned her crush on her favorite drummer, and new scenarios arose, causing her to question her very existence. The world she grew up in now seemed…

‘Bingo Summer’ by Dawn Malone Book Review Bitz!
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / October 14, 2014

This is a great book for the Middle-school aged girls. This Blitz Tour is presented by…    Bingo Summer by Dawn Malone This is a very fun from rags to riches story! Summer’s family had a very unusual tradition. On each birthday, the person receives a lottery ticket to scratch off her chosen numbers… Of course, the daughters never thought they would win. They certainly couldn’t afford the $10. it took to buy the ticket! However, miracles of miracles, on her thirteenth birthday, Summer actually won something! The story adequately kept the reader’s interest. It was very well written but lacked emotion. It felt more like a commentary. However, it addressed some adolescent issues, was mostly uplifting, yet too simplified. It is a great book for middle school readers – especially YA girls. I really like the book cover, although it depicts very little about the story line.It is eye-catching and invites the casual “browser’s” interest. The characters is the story are interesting and feel real. The scenic backgrounds are depicted quite well but not great. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating *This book was sent to me for an honest review, of which I have…

‘Retribution’ by Mike Worley – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / October 13, 2014

I must say, at the beginning if Retribution’, I was very tempted to put it down, apologize to the author for a review less than four stars (which I wouldn’t publish without his consent) and wish him well. It is very graphic at first with quite a bit of bad language. However, I am pleased I didn’t do that. Although this was a little excessively brutal for me at first, It was well-written and once the foundation was set, was a very captivating and entertaining story. Detective Angela Masters is a very endearing character as were many of the other characters involved. The demon felt like a true demon. The last half of the book Mike Worley was able to effectively draw the emotions of the reader into the story. I understand the author’s feeling of it being imperative he sets up the crime scene background first but he did it so well, it may scare off potential readers. The conclusion caused one to feel he/she were witnessing the closing credits of a Dragnet series. The book cover is a total mystery to me, I cannot associate the simplicity of it nor the picture to the story content. Therefore my…

‘When Grandma’s False Teeth Fly’ by Mary Lee – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / October 13, 2014

This is a fun light read for bedtime, story-time, anytime! Rebecca Riffey did a great job on the simple yet attractive illustrations. The story is about a day in the life of Katie at school then at her grandmother’s place. It is a well-written story by author Mary Lee.  The very end was slightly disappointing – a little surreal and too abrupt . Otherwise it was well worth reading. My review of this book offers a strong Four Stars rating. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘Phantom Dreams’ by T.K. Harris – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / October 13, 2014

I loved this story full of suspense and unexpected twists at the very end! I could barely put it down long enough to take care of necessities. This is a psychological thriller that  keeps the reader constantly guessing.Kathy Gilliam is bothered with increasing nightmare which adds to the stress of her already very stressful life. Between the roller-coaster care of her father, pressing work deadlines, in addition to her social anxiety, she has no time for relationships. Thankfully her co-worker Margo is also her best friend who offers a slight opportunity for an occasional outing…If only she could get some restful sleep! Special FBI Agent Jack Matthews occupies his every waking hour with a few stumping, brutal deaths. He feels strongly this is another serial killing situation but must convince his superiors of that.  One mistake and all his perfect record seems to be wiped away in some upper manager’s views. The book cover is intriguing and is depicting of an important…

Adult Books / October 8, 2014

HOP ON BOARD FOR ANOTHER BOOK TOUR & GIVEAWAY!!     presented by Shane at ITBBook Tours. Release date: July 2014 Publisher: Flower Child Publishing Purchase: Amazon    Synopsis via Goodreads: At fifteen most kids only have to worry about their homework or the style of their shoes. Gabe Perkins isn’t most kids. When diagnosed with a terminal illness, he begins to make friends with a girl so ethereal, he starts to question his own sanity. MY REVIEW: This is a very touching, poignant story about 15-year-old Gabe’s struggle with first the pressures of school and bully’s, unrequited love, loss of a father, being raised in a single parent home and feelings of not “fitting in” and now the final bombshell…cancer. The author very well portrays his struggles. The theme – covering only a few months – seems like it would be dragged out yet the author adeptly kept the reader’s interest. The characters were endearing (a couple not so endearing) and the background scenes were all easily visualized. The title was a little weak. I never felt anyone was “following” Zippy.  The cover image was eye-catching but not exceptionally so. There was some crude language and profanity that…

Not just one of their fun play-battles either, but a real battle in the forest with the most unusual of creatures and the wildest of animals. Can the brothers pull together when they need each other most? THE IFS by J.D. Pooker, cover art by Frank Walls, graphic design by David G. Barnett, published by Little Devil Books. MY REVIEW: LANDON AND BRODEN ARE BROTHERS. THE STRENGTH OF THEIR COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER IS TESTED WHEN IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO JOIN IN ON AN UNUSUAL BATTLE. WHAT BEGINS AS A SLOW MOVING STORY SOON BECOMES ACTION PACKED. THIS IS A STORY CENTERED AROUND YOUNG BOYS. WITH A FEW ADDED ILLUSTRATIONS, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A WONDERFUL TOOL IN MOTIVATING EARLY ELEMENTARY BOYS TO READ.  THIS TALE COMBINES FANTASY WORLD AND REALITY IN A VERY ADVENTUROUS WAY. IT…

‘The Creation Chronicles – The Dragon Within’ by Cindy Lyle – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / October 7, 2014

This book will keep the reader in suspense plus Cindy Lyle has successfully introduced a unique new “dragon tale”. The characters are unusual and well created, pulling the reader into the story. Scenes are portrayed well and easily visualized. There was plenty of action and new adventures. However, the tale was slightly drawn-out and the ending was very weak. Other than that, it was well worth reading! Karah was raised as an orphan within the elegance of the home of a very wealthy, royal family. After vividly strange dreams she went to visit her mentor and “friend”, Fitch, who is a wizard in some bizarre way. He unlocks the truth to Karah’s strange dreams along with the terrifying destiny she is to fulfill. This is not only an eye-catching, unique cover, but it is an equally unusual unpredictable tale! In review of this book, I offer a Four Stars rating. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

We are very close now for which I grateful and I’m so looking forward to becoming an aunt! They are due in December! SUPER! 2. What are some key childhood memories you have? Hi, ALL!    I am excited to introduce a new Book Series  by a very creative new author – Derek the Ghost!      I will also be reviewing his first book of the Scary School series ! Scary School by Derek the Ghost    You think your school’s scary?  Get a load of these teachers: Ms. Fang, an 850-year-old vampire Dr. Dragonbreath, who just might eat you before recess Mr. Snakeskin—science class is so much more fun when it’s taught by someone who’s half zombie Mrs. T—break the rules and spend your detention with a hungryTyrannosaurus rex! Plus Gargoyles, goblins, and Frankenstein’s monster on the loose….The world’s most frighteningly delicious school lunch And The narrator’s an eleven-year-old ghost! Join Charles “New Kid” Nukid as he makes some very Scary friends—including Petunia, Johnny, and Peter the Wolf—and figures out that Scary School can be just as funny as it is spooky. MY REVIEW: “Derek” tells of a very strange school, with a very strange faculty! This is an outrageous and  humorous book written for, approximately, ages 8-13. By creating a totally preposterous school setting and upcoming events, “Derek’s”  design is to lessen the sometimes traumatic effects elementary & middle school has on…

Tiny, you have many friends. With you please state who they are and a little about each of them? Well my very best friend is my stuffed unicorn. He’s pretty cool, if you couldn’t tell from the sunglasses. I also have three big brothers, who I’m probably supposed to say that they are my friends, so I guess they count too. They’re pretty irritating. They’d be way better friends if they’d maybe read a book every once in a while and if they weren’t always wrestling all over my stuff. I also have a whole bunch of new friends, I don’t know a whole lot about them yet, but I hope to get to know them better now that we’ve played together. I’m sure you’ll also find out a…

‘Spare Change’ by Bette Lee Crosby – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / October 2, 2014

SPARE CHANGE by Bette Lee Crosby Independent Olivia decided early in life that marriage and all the “baggage” it brought with it wasn’t for her.  She defied her father as she developed a career and was perfectly content for many years until a turn of events came “crashing down on her”! Ethan ‘s life, although not ideal, was accepted until at eleven years old, he was faced with a devastating tragedy and could only think of one place to go. Talented author, Bette Lee Crosby has effectively created a touching story that stirs many different emotions within the reader. The characters development was done very cleverly, the background scenes were described well. The Book Title was tied into the story quite well and the Book Cover was eye-catching but not entirely representative of the story. This tale was extreme, tragic, yet humorous at times, with a touch of fantasy. There are some sexual situations and some bad language which causes it to be inappropriate for YA. In review of this book I give it a strong Four Stars rating. * I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS…
