An appetite for more forces her to take stock of her middling middle-American existence and her neighbors’ seemingly perfect lives. Her marriage to a successful attorney has settled into a comfortable routine, and being the mother of two adorable sons has been rewarding. But Kelly’s own passions lie wasted. She eyes with envy the lives of her two best friends, Kathryn and Charlotte, both beautiful, successful businesswomen who seem to have it all. Kelly takes charge of her life, devising a midlife makeover plan. MY REVIEW: I liked the book being divided into three separate portions. It separated the different fazes Kelly went through. This is a very good drama of a few close friends. This book primarily…

Kitty Hawk and the Icelandic Intrigue: Book Three of the Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency Series by Iain Reading – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / December 30, 2014

Kitty Hawk continues on a world tour. Although she feels awkward at first, she agrees to stay with a friend’s family. Unknowingly, she has become an international celebrity. Her picture and Tour Mission is in many magazines and newspapers from all over the world! Part of her mission is to discover new traditions, foods and beliefs of other countries. Iceland is a country rich in tradition. In excavation, there are often problems with the elves, trolls and hidden people. Are any of them real? There are mediators to negotiate with them! Kitty gets caught in the middle of a shocking situation. There are some unexpected twists and action. There is so much valuable history included in each Kitty Hawk story including past and present volcanic action, plus, Icelandic pools. All can benefit from reading this series. However, it does contain profanity and crude language so many will avoid reading them for that reason. The flow of the story isn’t always smooth, either. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

The Final Ginny West series ‘Being West is Best’ Book Blast! Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / December 30, 2014

This has been the best series since Trixie Beldon! (For all of you younger ones…look it up!) This final book in this first series of Four was the best yet! I certainly hope Monique Bucheger has more in this continuing series. This review Blast is presented by What an entertaining series this has been! Besing West is Best is Book 4 in the Ginny West series…I certainly hope they continue. Most youth (girls especially) will love them all! Monique Bucheger has an unique talent of adding the right amount of humor and adventure to make this drama complete. Still, the reader never gets enough and wants to discover more, with this family saga. In this final book of the four, much of the concerns, mishaps, and drama of the other books are brought together in this conclusion. In previous books, the only problem I have had with them was the conversations with the two twelve year old girls seemed quite a bit younger than the age represented. With this book, the conversations of the 12-yeaer -old youths were “right on the mark”. The introduction of a surprise situation was easily predicted but still remains very interesting. Perfect for ages 8…

‘I Know My Dad Loves Me’ by Scott A. Williams – Book Review by LAWonder10

This is a book needing more attention by parents as well as children! It is difficult to know which genre it truly belongs in. Children 8 through 16 would benefit from reading it, since this is a problem among many youth, but most particularly, boys. Yet, this is a book fathers should especially read. I personally know of many fathers who have a difficult time expressing love, particularly to their sons. It can be very confusing and emotionally damaging to a young man. The writing may seem slightly juvenile for older boys or fathers – which makes it perfect for younger boys. The message is clear and strong, so adults and older boys, please overlook it. It will be worth it! A boy is a child. ALL children need to feel secure in each parent’s love. Affection does not make anyone weak, – just the opposite – it makes individuals feel secure and strong! This was simply, yet, well-written. The book cover and title are a perfect fit. The emotions and situations are portrayed well. My review of this book offers a Four and a Half Stars rating. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review,…

‘Simply West of Heaven’ (A Ginny West Adventure) – by Monique Bucheger – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / December 24, 2014

The Ginny West Saga continues in this episode of her many adventures. This series is an ongoing drama but is so well written, it is not boring. I find myself eagerly looking forward to what is in each new paragraph. It is sure to delight most children ages 8 to 14! In this episode stress between the Twins – Ginny and Toran – increases. Tillie, uncharacteristically, “blows up”. She impatiently awaits further development in her Mom’s and Ginny’s Dad’s relationship. Do you remember the BIG secret that has kept Ginny’s Mom’s journals from the “Twins”? It is a shocking secret! Oh! Remember Uncle Jake? He is also a recipient of an answer to a shocking secret! Where is his sense of humor, now? Join in with all the new developments in Simply West of Heaven…Here’s a hint, the Title fits the story. As always, this episode ends well, yet, leads the reader anxious to read the next one. The only problem I had with the book..the series… is the conversations of the girls often sound more like a 9 or 10 year old and not as 12 year olds would converse and respond to situations. It is still a great…

A Ginny West Adventure: Trouble Blows West by Monique Bucheger – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / December 18, 2014

THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK IN THE DELIGHTFUL CHILDREN/YA SERIES OF GINNIE WEST ADVENTURES WITH THE BLITZ PRESENTED BY There is never a dull moment in Ginny West’s Adventures! In this episode of the saga, Ginny and her twin, Toran, have sibling problems, Ginny gets into more trouble. The Bully, Pierce, is “out to get” her and Toran. The final chapters places a “new light” on her hopeless situation. The story was awesome but the last page ended abrupt and slightly weak. For this reason, my review offers a Four and a Half Stars rating. The Characters are very well portrayed and capture the reader’s heart. There are several diverse but very realistic individuals. The comic book illustrations help the reader with additional visualization. I feel children 8 to 14nwould truly enjoy this series. The Title is a clever “play” on words and the book cover is bright, colorful and eye-catching. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. Adult Books / December 14, 2014

This Author, Chris Uyi, offers some profound , non-denominational insights all individuals would benefit from. Book Synopsis: LIFE: Sentiments & Realities “Reality is burdensome to the undisciplined mind and so people avoid it by constantly seeking fun and distractions, albeit living confusedly. In adult life, we must train our minds to be watchful, thoughtful and resolute. We cannot alter what is, nor shape people and events to our liking; putting much effort into that is a sure path to frustration. Rather, we must set our minds to reconcile our actions to what is, rather than what we expect things to be.” Instructive judgement, practical counsel, eternal truths and unconventional tactics to attain a fulfilled and happy life is what the author of the book, LIFE: Sentiments & Realities, offers the reader. In this book, Chris shares his insightful, combative, tough-minded and pragmatic thoughts on some basic life issues, encouraging the reader to choose a realistic rather than sentimental approach to life and, in so doing, achieve a robust, successful and happy life. Through the Fire Uncontrolled desires, passions and sorrows constitute the world of darkness where the fire burns; and in the presence of darkness, people stumble and fall. But…

Kitty Hawk and The Hunt For Hemingway’s Gift by Iaian Reading – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / December 13, 2014

Once again the reader benefits from Author, Iain Reading’s vast geographical and other historical  knowledge and experiences! In this intriguing book of the Kitty Hawk series, we are taken through Canada into the US and Florida Keys. Many interesting tidbits of information is offered about each of the “stops” Kitty makes. When she reaches the Florida Keys, her parents join her then gifts her a three day stay in an upper class motel before they return to Canada. Her first adventure is after visiting the Home of Ernest Hemingway Tour. Then she continues on to Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas – just past the Florida Keys. Along with discovering the history of these wonderful new places, she experiences an even graver adventure that could be life-threatening! This is written quite well with slight humor. It was written primarily for YA but I feel the profanity and other strong language is inappropriate for that age level. The Book Cover and Title depict the story well and are eye-catching. The characters are quite well defined except for the “bad guys” who seem too mild of a disposition for the roles they play. This is the  first of an 18-month trip Kitty…

‘Secret Sisters Club (Ginny West Adventure series)’ by Monique Bucheger – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / December 9, 2014

What a Fun series! This is a delightful series written with young girls in mind, yet it is family oriented enough boys could enjoy it as well. It is a good book for family reading.  This easy chapter book is perfect for ages 6 -14.  The illustration throughout the book – by Mikey Brooks – are similar to the front cover, with a “comic book” appearance.  The story line is somewhat predictable yet effectively written to entertain that age group. Ginny is best friends with Tillie. Ginny’s mother died in a riding accident and Tillie’s dad left her and her mother when she was a young toddler. They devised a plan to try ro get their parents together so they can become real sisters. It seems to be working when Ginnie suddenly sees complications from this union. Is this what she really wants? Ginnie’s twin brother, Toran, soon becomes involved in the complications, as well. This is a well-written story many young girls will be able to relate to and even some boys! It is very entertaining and I am anxious to star book two of the series. In reviewing this book,  I feel this merits a Four and a…

‘Love in the House of War’ by Al M. Scott – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / December 5, 2014

Welcome! Although this is a book of fiction, the author is the same whose memoirs – Stone in a Sling – I reviewed earlier this year (5 Stars rating)  http://www.rockinbookreviews.com/2014/05/08/a-true-story-of-stone-in-a-sling-a-soldiers-journey-by-major-ret-scott-a-meehan-book-review-by-lawonder10-join-me-in-two-days-for-my-interview-with-this-incredible-individual/ …and also had an interesting Interview with him. http://www.rockinbookreviews.com/2014/05/09/interview-with-stone-in-a-sling-author-major-scott-a-meehan-join-me-in-learning-more-of-this-awe-inspiring-man/ Now he has created a new series of which the first book was very enjoyable. The beginning of the book was a little awkward (as many setting up a foundation are) but it ended with a “bang”! The Special Forces quickly responded after 9/11. Ron, a Green Beret, was only one of the team members. He was one of two asked to assist a local Afghanistan doctor. Later the doctor approached the group to please rescue his daughter, a nurse, the Taliban had taken away. In rescue attempts, the team got separated and Ron was left alone to aid the young woman who in turn was an aid to him as well, during which time strong emotions developed. The rest of the story contains amazing twists! As, stated, the first part of the book felt a little awkward while the author set up the foundation for the series. The last part really captured the reader’s interest and was very emotional. My…

Isabella Babysits Baxter Book Blitz & Review Tour! Fun book!
Children's Books / December 5, 2014

This is a fun book for parents/educators to read to children or for early readers, themselves! I appreciate this tour opportunity presented by Beware of what you ask of children! This is a cute, comical book of a mother doing all she can to maintain her finesse by asking her child to babysit Baxter so she can complete her tasks. Join Isabella’s adventures in her efforts to “babysit” Baxter. It is catastrophically humorous but ends well. However, the ending did not quite fit with reality. The book and comically well-done illustrations were both done by the author, Melissa Perry Moraja. It is a colorful, fun book your child will enjoy. I recommend it for children ages 2 to 8. I offer a Four Stars review for this book. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE! [raw] [/raw]

Liesl’s Ocean Rescue Book Tour, My Review, and GIVEAWAY (ends 12/19/2014)!
Children's Books / December 4, 2014

How Very Fitting to Participate in this Tour and Review this Book on the Anniversary Week of the Bombing of Pearl Harbor! I thank LIESL’S OCEAN RESCUE by BARBARA KRASNER Book Synopsis: Lisel’s Ocean Rescue by noted children’s author Barbara Krasner, recounts the story of Liesl Joseph, a 10-year-old girl aboard the ill-fated MS St. Louis. On May 13, 1939, together with her parents and 900 other Jewish refugees they left Germany on the MS. St Louis attempting to seek temporary asylum in Cuba. MY REVIEW: On this week’s anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, this is a very fitting story! This story takes place before US involvement. It is based ob actual happenings. Stories like these parents/educators need to read to the children and implement them in a child’s curriculum because most present day history books excludes most of this information. The story is well written and illustrates how even a child can assist in difficult times and situations. The black and white sketches were done very well by illustrator, Avi Katz Note: In the authors note’s, a very controversial comment is made which parents may not want their children reading without discussion. I…
