‘Dewi and the Seeds of Doom” Review Blitz- Book Review By LAWonder10
Children's Books / January 31, 2015

Do you know a child who likes dragons? If so, this is a humorous book he/she will be sure to enjoy!  This Book Tour is presented by Dewi and the Seeds of Doom by Maggie Lyons When Dewi is clobbered by a falling rat, the nosy Welsh dragon snoops his way into a challenging predicament. Helped by a toad with a passion for chemical wart cures, Dewi discovers that a megalomaniac baron is secretly breeding mutant corn at an unfriendly castle. To thwart the genetically modified-corn baron’s sickening plan, he must use moxie and firepower in a series of catastrophe-skirting capers. MY REVIEW: This is a fun story which will be certain to delight and entertain young children, ages 6-10. It is a perfect early reader chapter book. Dewi has a variety of friends who help him in solving a mystery. Plenty of silly humor was added to the dialogue. The characters are creatively developed and the scenes are easily pictured. A Book Title and Cover could not be a better “fit”. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE…

‘Legacy’ by Ellery A. Kane – Book Review by LAWonder10
Young Adult Books / January 31, 2015

Legacy by Ellery A. Kane Synopsis: In 2041, the choice is yours. San Francisco is deserted, the Bay Bridge bombed, and the BART subway trains grounded. The Guardians, members of an elite and mysterious government-appointed military police force, are maintaining order at all costs—thanks to emotion-altering drugs like Emovere that suppress fear and anxiety. Lex Knightley, daughter of a prominent forensic psychiatrist, risks entering the devastated city to partner with the Resistance, a group of rebels intent upon exposing the dangers of Emovere. Lex discovers an ally in Quin McAllister, a magnetic Guardian Force recruit with a haunting past that binds them together. As she uncovers the secrets of the Guardian Force and confronts the truth about her family, Lex begins to realize that even those closest to her are not quite who they seem.” My Review: With the clever mix of suspense and intrigue, the author holds the read’s interest until the very last page! The setting of the story is in California in the future 2041.  The world is in chaos and the government has appointed the Guardians as the military system to obtain order in an unethical way. Lex joins the Resistance where she meets Quin. Their…

‘EMISSARY’ by THOMAS LOCKE – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / January 31, 2015

EMISSARY by THOMAS LOCKE Goodreads’ Synopsis : Hyam is a likeable lad who will make a fine farmer someday. But he carries a burden few can fathom. As his mother slips toward death, she implores him to return to Long Hall, where he spent five years as an apprentice. It was there that Hyam’s extraordinary capacity for mastering languages came to light–and soon cast him into the shadows of suspicion. How could any human learn the forbidden tongues with such ease? When Hyam dares to seek out the Mistress of the Sorceries, her revelation tears his world asunder. He has no choice but to set out on the foreboding path–which beckons him to either his destiny or his doom. An encounter with an enchanting stranger reminds him that he is part hero and part captive. As Hyam struggles to interpret the omens and symbols, he is swept up by a great current of possibilities–and dangers. MY REVIEW: This book just kept getting better as I read on! It began a little slow as the author “set the stage”, although it never became boring. Before Hyam can even begin to honor his mother’s dying wish – of which he truly dreaded…

About Hissy Fitz A moment ago, I was happily napping on the windowsill in the sunshine, dreaming I was flying through the air, catching sparrows in my claws. Now I’m awake. Georgie woke me. I wouldn’t do that to her. A popular middle-grade writer moves to chapter books (ages 7-9) with this humorous tale about a cat that makes Grumpy Cat seem cheerful. Perfect for fans of Geronimo Stilton and Dog Diaries. Hissy Fitz lives with some two-legged creatures who are destined to serve him in every possible way and understand his every whim. Sadly, these creatures are sorely lacking in their skills. For one thing–they touch him when they want to touch him. Don’t they know that the two-legged are there for him to touch when he wants to–meaning when he wants food? Petting wakes him up! They speak to him–don’t they know the two-legged should be seen–so Hissy knows where to order food–and not heard! It’s becoming intolerable. What…

The Tiny Portrait by Heidi Carla – Book Review by LAWorley10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / January 25, 2015

What a wonderful way to get children interested in creating a Family Tree and get to know their ancestors! Tess and Toby discovered an old Memory Box in their attic. At first they didn’t think the old “junk” inside was worth anything but then Toby discovered an old compass and took off up stairs with it. Before closing the lid, Tess had discovered a priceless folded frame of an elderly woman with a dog…the woman looked a little like Tess! That night Tess slept with the frame beside her bed. What happened the next morning opened a whole new world for her and Toby! The Illustrations by Karla Cinquanta gave the story the perfect added effects. The Book Cover and Title are a great “fit”. The writing is done well, with a touch of fantasy, but a few parts were abruptly cut off and impeded a smooth flow. The characters are very believable and real. The background scenes were easily portrayed. A great book for ages 8 – 16. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. Please purchase this book from…

‘The Second Coming: a simplified study’ by Andrew LeTeer – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / January 20, 2015

Author, Andrew James LeTeer, has humbly presented this astute study of the slightly controversial subject topic of the Bible including some illustrations.. He has used biblical scriptures (although I prefer the King James Version) to support his insights into the actual prophesies of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. His observations are never presented as fact. He admits to a lack of insight into symbolism of that time period and location. He does use his personal skills in his approach through scriptures. His convictions easily flow with energy throughout the book. He brings many interesting hypothesis to the reader’s attention. The Title is indeed appropriate but the King on a Horse is a bit much! Christ is to come in a “chariot of fire”, not a horse. It would have been preferable for illustrations to be scattered throughout the book in the appropriate places to accompany the subject they portrayed. Also, some of the drawings needed to be modified. I truly recommend this by Christians and others to contemplate the ideas presented here. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE…

‘The Silly Little Giraffe’ by C.A. Stommel – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / January 13, 2015

This is a fun, silly book, with fun, colorful, but silly pictures a fun, silly message! It is about parents who encourage a child to “be all he can be and never give up, while all the community tried to convince him his efforts are impossible. It was a great teaching tool. The illustrations done by Patricia A. Sloan fit the tale. The characters in the story were portrayed well, also. I did not feel the ending was at all strong. It felt like an afterthought. The story built up to the conclusion, then skipped ahead too much and abruptly ended. However, it was still a good story for toddlers and early elementary school age children. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given.

‘The Spaces in Between’ by Gavin Ough – Book Review by LAWonder10

This entertaining story of  Gremlaw is a fascinating, medieval tale of a young boy whose life was turned “upside down” after tragedy. Join in his experiences from that time until the time of his manhood. The tale takes place in a fictitious land but where circumstances and customs were very real in that period of time. It contains a bit of fantasy which is not entirely inconceivable. This is a wonderful book the whole family can enjoy. It can be read in an few hours and covers an age range fitting for most of the family. The Book cover and title are a perfect fit for this fun – at times dreadful – adventure. My rating of this book offers a Five Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS NOVELLA FROM AMAZON, HERE. [raw] [/raw]

The illustrations by Shirley Chiang are simply but delightfully done. The colors are bright and uplifting. The only criticism I have of this book is the lack of information on the key suffering of Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, which was where the greatest suffering for our sakes occurred. My rating of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON, HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘Barney and Barry the Hitchhikers’ by Sharon Powers – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / January 7, 2015

This is a cute, comical book but a little far-fetched even for a fantasy. However, most elementary age student will enjoy it. It does exemplify a few positive lessons in life. Fletcher wad different from his siblings and was ridiculed, taunted and excluded. He decided to go away on his own. He soon discovered many interesting characters in the ocean and discovered new friends who accepted him as he is. However,…these were very peculiar friends. The illustrations by Lana McCleary are brightly colorful and very well done. It is an excellent chapter book for more advanced elementary readers. My review of this book offers a Four Stars rating. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘My Pink Room’ by Kathleen Mackey Gallanar – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / January 7, 2015

This memoir was done very well. A daughter of a once known baseball star, tells of the heart rending experience of losing her father after years of battle with a malignant tumor. As a young child, she had a special relationship with her father. He loved his family deeply and bore his illness well. Kathleen enfolds the reader into those challenging years she tried to endure the painful, confusing years following his death. She finally is able to move on in her adult life. Entwined into the memories are beautifully written poetry she wrote in helping her to express the different painful times. Poetry that will certainly tough the reader’s heart. There were a few times the author repeated reflections which wasn’t needed. The Title is applicable to her story but, I feel, will not attract most readers.  I cannot really understand how the book cover applies to her story. This was so well done and the above mentioned problems were so minor that the review I give of this book rates it with Four and a Half Stars. *This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. She expected harassment from paparazzi but not from the writers of Blood Ritual, a television crime drama that brought national attention to a tough case she is trying to solve as a forensic scientist. While she and the rest of the Albuquerque Police Department once collaborated with the show, now relations have gone sour, and details that the police are trying to keep secret in the investigation are cropping up in episodes of a show watched by millions. If that weren’t enough, everyone in Chloe’s life seems to be going through a rough patch, from her best friend, Lori, who is trying to plan a wedding, to her niece Kyra who is upset about Jason’s choice of television roles, to Jason himself who is inexplicably moody and withdrawn. ‘The Hockey Saint’ by Howard Shapiro – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / January 4, 2015

This is a Comic Book novel I feel most teenaged boys would enjoy. A young college Hockey player has a rare opportunity to become friends with a pro-Hockey player/hero which places the student in a difficult situation in many ways. It also has many positive points one could adapt in ones own life. Challenges are faced and solutions discovered. The artwork is expressive and done well. The main problem I felt was with some of the conversations seemed slightly juvenile for the age group portrayed. The characterization was done well, the situations feasible and easily visualized. The title and cover fit the story very well. I would recommend this for youth ages 8 to 18. My review of this book, offers a Four Stars rating. * I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK FROM AMASZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

‘When Camels Fly’ by NLB Horton – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books / January 2, 2015

Had I been perusing books I would never have stopped at this one to read it which would have been a very big mistake! The title and book cover does not do it justice. This was an action-packed, adventurous suspense story with a touch of humor plus a touch of romance. It is great fairly clean reading for adult book clubs . It even contains great discussion questions at the end. The story centers on a family with unique talents and an unusual life-style. The two children are adults now which leaves the parents to pursue each’s own pathway and personal development. However, due to specific circumstances, they are pulled together in order to remain a close-knit family. They eventually discover how little they truly know about each other, developing a new respect for each other’s career choice. The character development was very well done and the situations felt real. There was very diverse characters formulated and each individual seemed to come alive. There was some difficulty in following certain individuals and deciphering their role in the story at times which upset a smooth flow of the tale. It all became clear at the end if the book if one…
