CONGRATS! Epic fantasy for modern readers Emissary (book 1 in the Legends of the Realm series) follows the original Greek concept of ‘epic.’ Nowadays the term has been redefined to basically mean nothing more than, long. Originally, an epic tale was one where the principal character sought to achieve a quest. The hero’s journey, both externally and the hero’s need to conquer inner demons, formed vital life-lessons for the audience. My aim with this fantasy was to fashion an epic that would suit modern tastes. I threw out what has become the standard format for fantasy novels, with their long-winded descriptions and elaborate settings. Instead, I used the sentence structure and pacing of a mystery. It is tight, with what I…

Enter For a Chance to Win a Paperback copy of ‘The Jericho River By David W. Tollen! Read My Review/Interview, too! (ends 1/13/16)
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / December 30, 2015

This is very different type of Fantasy for YA but Adults will find it very intriguing as well! Read my Interview with the author who has graciously provided a Paperback copy FREE for one lucky U.S. Winner…Sorry, This Giveaway is only for U.S. residents. …AND THE WINNER IS…FEE R.! About the Book: History isn’t names and dates; it’s an adventure story. And so is The Jericho River. It’s both a novel and a history of Western Civilization. The Jericho River flows through a magical world shaped by myth and history. Young Jason Gallo sails the river on a dangerous quest to rescue his estranged father. He battles Minotaurs and pirates, flees barbarians, stumbles into mummies’ tombs, and outwits fairies, philosophers, and scientists. Along the way, he finds love and betrayal, faces the legacy of a broken family, and flees a hidden foe who threatens all he holds dear. But Jason¹s tale is more than a fantasy story. The river flows like a timeline, carrying the young man through historic lands –  Sumer, Babylonia, ancient Greece, Medieval Europe, Napoleon’s empire, and many others, all in chronological order. So the adventure traces the history of Western Civilization, from its Middle Eastern origins…

Dino-Dinners by Mick Manning & Brita Granstrom – Book Review by LAWonder10!
Children's Books / December 29, 2015

DINO-DINNERS by Mick Manning & Brita Granstrom It’s dino-dinnertime but who eats what, and who eats who? How do we know what dinosaurs ate? Who hunted as a team? Who ate with their head in the treetops, and who ate absolutely anything they could find? Discover exactly what is on the menu, as you are invited to attend this dinner party with a difference! MY REVIEW: Dino-Dinners is a very good book to answer a child’s questions about various dinosaurs eating habits. It also shows a large and defined illustrations of each. The authors colorfully illustrated each one in its’ own element. The way the words are written can be a little confusing at times. Te attempt at slight rhyming was not effective. There is awkwardness one experiences while reading some of the descriptions. There is no “flow” to the verses. There is a Glossary at the end of the story which would be beneficial to the child in learning skills. It merits at least a three star rating. Children will delight in the illustrations and in learning about them. This book was sent to me for an honest review, of which I have given. Manning went to school in…

Papa’s Book of Mormon Christmas by Emma Rae Parker – Book Review by LAWonder10!
Children's Books / December 28, 2015

OKAY! I KNOW THIS IS A LITTLE LATE,…But, if you are like me, IT IS NEVER TOO LATE FOR CHRISTMAS STORIES! Papa’s Book of Mormon Christmas by Emma Rae Parker, Alexa Terry Hanson (Illustrator) Hardcover, 32 pages Published October 13th 2015 by Cedar Fort Publishing & Media Six-year-old Alice would rather get toys than a book any day. But when her grandfather explains that this book is different, Alice begins to see why their first-edition Book of Mormon is so special to her family. Set in the early 1900s, this charming story is the perfect picture book to read with your family as you gather round the Christmas tree. MY REVIEW! This is a different type of Christmas Story directed, especially, for the L.D.S. audience. It is a very cute tale of a “papa’s” relationship with his granddaughter and their fun activities they share. It is, also, a picture story of his way of sharing something that means a lot to him. The characters were fun and endearing. The illustrations were done in a simple, colorful, comic way by Alexa Terry Hanson. The Book Title and Cover are a perfect fit for the story! At first, there was a gap between…

I HOPE ALL MY CHRISTIAN READERS HAD A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS!

I love the Holidays and the added closeness to family and friends it brings. I promised my husband for Christmas and New Years Eve, I will give him the present of not posting on my blog. He is so supportive but often neglected.I cannot imagine my life without him in it. I cherish all these festive things associated with the Season. For all of my friends and viewers who are not Christian, I honor your beliefs and cherish your support and friendship. Individuals do not have to agree in order to beloved and appreciated by each other. Life would be dull if we ll viewed life in the same way. For my Christian readers, I rejoice with you in the Saviors birth and all it stands for. As a Christian, I mostly cherish the Savior, Jesus Christ for His willingness to come to this world of imperfect people to suffer all things any of us will ever suffer – his own brothers did not accept Him until after His crucifixion – and to teach, set the supreme examples for us to follow. He then suffered, as no man has or ever will, in Gethsemane, bleeding from every pore to take…

Broken Stone Book Tour – Review by LAWonder10!
Young Adult Books / December 23, 2015

With a broken stone clenched tight in her hand, twelve-year-old Katya flees the Soviet Union for an uncertain future in 1930s Germany. Will it be a better place for kulak orphans like her? Will her broken stone help or hinder her growth into young adulthood? Broken Stone continues the story of Katya in Red Stone (first published as The Kulak’s Daughter). Gabriele Goldstone inherited scattered bits of her mother’s memories, overshadowed by Stalin and Hitler and shaped them into the fictional character of Katya Halter. Gabriele travelled to Ukraine and searched through former KGB files to find missing pieces-along with the red stone that symbolizes Katya’s home. Gabriele lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba. MY REVIEW: This was a very interesting book based on actual events. It was under the order of Anne Frank’s Diary. The writer kept the reader’s interest throughout the book. This is a light but fairly intense tale. It  gives the reader an insight of the Soviet Union and Germany just before the onset of Hitler’s reign. The story effectively arouses emotions and captivates one’s interest. The characters are very well developed and the scenes easily visualized. The Title is very fitting…

A small family is stranded due to a broken-down truck and seeks shelter for the evening. Paul’s grandfather not only welcomes them in, but offers them dinner and a bed for the night. Even though it is a season of giving, Paul’s heart is not filled with charity. It’s the height of the Dust Bowl and food is scarce. Why should he share what little he has with strangers? Worse, in order to help the sick baby, Paul will have to sell his beloved calf to buy a part to fix the truck. Angry, he retreats to the barn, where he sleeps and dreams of faraway Bethlehem. In his dream, he visits Mary and Joseph, and their newborn son, Jesus. The family offers Paul food and shelter and warmth—extending to him the love and charity he lacks and teaching him of the true meaning of Christmas.     MY REVIEW: WHAT  TOUCHING CHRISTMAS STORY! IT WILL DELIGHT YOUR SMALL CHILDREN AND THE WHOLE FAMILY….

This Week’s M9B Friday Reveal & Giveaway – Cover Reveal: Facsimile by Vicki L. Weavil
Young Adult Books / December 4, 2015

M9B Friday Reveal: Cover Reveal – Facsimile by Vicki L. Weavil with Giveaway #M9BFridayReveals Welcome to this week’s M9B Friday Reveal! This week, we are revealing the cover for … Facsimile by Vicki L. Weavil an upcoming Month9Books Title! Author, Vicki L. Weavil, also shares her thoughts on the cover. Be sure to enter the giveaway found at the  end of the post! I love this cover because it reflects the book so well. The image of a girl standing alone on a desolate world is a perfect depiction of my protagonist, Ann, as well as her “sand over stone” world, Eco.  But it’s also symbolic, because although Ann isn’t really alone, she often feels isolated on her frontier planet. The addition of the image of the Earth is also appropriately symbolic. Ann can’t actually see the Earth from Eco, but since her goal is to live on Earth it’s always on her mind, so the inclusion of the Earth image is a wonderful metaphor for her hopes and dreams. Facsimile (Facsimile #1) by Vicki L. Weavil Publication Date:  March 8, 2015 Publisher:  Month9Books For a ticket to Earth, seventeen-year-old Anna-Maria “Ann” Solano is willing to jettison her birth planet, best…
