This is a book recommended to all adults. It is very inspiring. This book Tour was presented by…  Return to Henry Adams, Kansas–an unforgettable place anyone would want to call home. . . Mayor Trent July and his wife, Lily, are enjoying life as newlyweds and embracing the challenges and joys that come with being adoptive parents to two wonderful boys. But fatherhood has inevitably forced Trent to think about his own birth mother. But he can’t help wondering what happened to the scared teenage girl who gave birth to him. And questions that he’s never voiced are now begging to be answered: Who was she? Is she still alive? Why didn’t she want him? Trent has always believed that no good comes from dwelling on the past, especially when you have a loving family, a strong community, and folks who depend on you. But when the past comes to Henry Adams, Trent has no choice but to face it–and the woman who left him behind. The truth will shake his very being and everything he thought he…

Every Father’s Daughter compiled by Margaret McMullan Book Tour! Review by LAWonder10!
Adult Books / June 15, 2015

I am pleased to participate in this Book Tour! First, we invite you to celebrate Father’s Day with Every Father’s Daughter:  Twenty-four Women Writers Remember Their Fathers (McPherson & Company), an anthology of honest essays by Alice Munro, Alexandra Styron, Maxine Kingston, Barbara Shoup and other distinguished writers hand-selected by Margaret. Publishers Weekly gave it a starred review. “What is it about the relationship between fathers and daughters that provokes so much exquisite tenderness, satisfying communion, longing for more, idealization from both ends, followed often if not inevitably by disappointment, hurt, and the need to understand and forgive, or to finger the guilt of not understanding and loving enough?” writes Phillip Lopate, in his introduction to Every Father’s Daughter, a collection of 25 personal essays by women writers writing about their fathers. The editor, Margaret McMullan, is a novelist and distinguished educator. About half of these essays were written by invitation for this anthology; others were selected by Ms. McMullan and her associate, Philip Lopate, who provides an introduction. The contributors include many well-known writers—Alice Munro, Jayne Anne Phillips, Alexandra Styron, Ann Hood, Bobbie Ann Mason, Maxine Hong Kingston, to name a few—as well as other writers perhaps less well-known but…

I Hope You All Participated in the Giveaways Monday through Friday! Below is LAWonder10’s Review of another Memorial Story.
Adult Books / May 24, 2015

In further commemoration of Memorial Day Weekend, here is a very good story with an amazing conclusion. Synopsis per Goodreads: The love of strong, faithful women really conquers all…especially when fate imprisons two Texas Navy pilots in one of the Vietnam War’s deadliest POW jungle camps. Childhood friends Andy Stevens and Wade Hamilton share the same dream of becoming fighter pilots. With tearful send-offs and ‘until death do us part’ promises from high school sweethearts, they finally turn their boyhood aspirations into reality when they are appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy. But their idyllic dreams quickly turn into their own Hell on Earth when they are captured as POWs and must fight to stay alive. Can the unwavering love of the women they leave behind and a fierce loyalty to their unconditional friendship, save their lives? MY REVIEW: This was an interesting account written as a memoir but, after searching, I discovered it to be a novel. The story is based on the time period of the nineteen sixties and early seventies. It is about an amazing friendship between two unlikely young men from 12 years of age on. It is also an incredible love story. The two…

This is a fun Army to learn about! ‘Arnold Ant’ by Alice Horwill – Book Review by LAWonder10!
Children's Books / May 19, 2015

Here is a different type of Army but Army Ant is definitely what he is! SYNOPSIS PER AMAZON: A delightfully illustrated story that is both entertaining and informative. Life in an ant colony is portrayed by Arnold Ant who is nearing the end of his life as the colony’s father and grandfather. The importance of positive behaviors are emphasized by the ordered hierarchy within the ants’ family. A story that engages a wide age range of children. MY REVIEW: This is a wonderfully educational book on the lifestyles of ants! The information is very thorough! (10 pages) The last part (32 pages) of the book has various learning activities for the child to do. This paperback book is of high quality. The illustrations done by Greg Carter are done very well, yet, simple. The flow of the information was interrupted a couple of times and the wording was done awkwardly. Other than that, I highly recommend this for parents and educators to use in teaching children ages 5 to 9! *I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review, of which I have given. PLEASE BUY THIS BOOK FROM AMAZON HERE. [raw] [/raw]

My forehead’s throbbing. One minute this girl is yelling at me for giving up and the next, she’s laughing. Whiplash. DIVERGENT (Movie) & LAWonder’s Review
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / May 16, 2015

WOW! I REALLY LOVED THE ACTION AND PLAUSIBILITY OF THIS MOVIE STARRING SHAILENE WOODLEY & THEO JAMES! Synopsis per Amazon: Beatrice Pryor lives in a dystopian Chicago, which is divided into five factions devoted to different virtues. On a set day every year, sixteen-year-olds must select which faction they will devote the rest of their lives to. Beatrice must choose between staying with her family and being who she really is. Beatrice also has a secret, one she has been warned can mean death if exposed. Now, Beatrice All the supporting actors Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Tony Goldwyn, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Kate Winslet, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Christian Madsen,Amy Newbold, Ben Lamb, Janet Ulrich Brooks, Clara Burger, Anthony Fleming, Ryan Carr were equally great! I have noticed many negative reviews. The only thing I casnh cinclude is they must have read the book first before seeing the movie. The movie cannot possibly capture the details in a book. I feel – in most cases – the book is always better. The acting by all of the cast was outstanding and very believable. What starts out to appear a very sedative beginning increases…

Bianca’s Vineyard Book Tour & GIVEAWAY (ends on 5/29/15), PLUS, MY REVIEW & INTERVIEW!
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / May 14, 2015

This is successfully written in a memoir-type nostalgia, based on facts. I am pleased to be a part of this tour presented by  Book Description: Bianca Corrotti’s vineyard is more than a piece of mouth-watering real estate in Tuscany. It’s an inheritance; a storehouse harboring the secrets of her Uncle Egisto, a world-class sculptor, and his troubled wife — a woman whose destiny converges with Mussolini’s when WWII overtakes them all. Based on a true story, Bianca’s Vineyard follows a devoted family of strong-willed men and lion-hearted women waging an epic battle against a gathering storm intent on destroying their lives.  MY REVIEW: Written as a memoir, this fictional account is indeed based on a true story. Teresa Neumann has successfully blended present and past tense together. There was a smooth flow throughout the tale. Her account of the years surrounding World War 11 was enlightening yet heartbreaking. Those of us who have escaped war zones, need to daily count our blessings!   This tale of a segment of an Italian family, generations later, comes from America to unite with those left in Italy. The couple was fortunate to have an elderly family member – Bianca – remember the…

She never turned anyone away but fed them on the enclosed porch to be sure her children would be safe inside the house. Our large corner lot was always open for the homeless to sleep and blankets sometimes provided. My mother and father adored each other and were a great example of love and kindness. they…

Children’s Week Daily Book Review ‘ Mice & Spiders & Webs…Oh My!’ by Sherrill S. Cannon – Book Review by LAWonder10!
Children's Books / May 7, 2015

Mice & Spiders & Webs…Oh My! Is your child a good listener? Rosemary is a little girl who is worried about returning to school after her teacher warns the class that they would soon have some mice, spiders, and webs in the classroom. Could Rosemary have misunderstood something? How can mice and spiders and webs belong at school? Full of “Computer Speak,” this story introduces young readers to basic computer terms in a delightful way! See if your child can discover the mystery of the misunderstood words, and learn about the fun of computers with Rosemary. This is the seventh rhyming children’s book by this award-winning author. MY REVIEW: This is a fun story to introduce little ones to the new innovations used in school! Sherrill Cannon has, once again, effectively woven together great information and humor in Rhyme! While her mother is totally surprised at Rosemary not wanting to go to school and confront these eery creatures, it just doesn’t make sense! The mother decides to take matters in her own hands. This book is educational, while entertaining too, and is a great teaching tool on being a good Listener. Kalpart has once again created brightly colorful, clear illustrations…

They meet the terrifying challenges with light-hearted courage, resourcefulness and wit. My Review: Maggie has “had it”! ‘Too Safe For Strangers’ by Deputy Sheriff Robert Kahn – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books / May 6, 2015

Most children, especially children on the autism spectrum, accept adults’ friendliness at face value. Sometimes it can have tragic consequences. Written by a Deputy Sheriff, this book is credited with foiling at least 22 stranger abductions. Characters Bobby and Mandee explain stranger danger in a way that is accessible, but not frightening, for children. Read it to your child and role-play different scenarios. Create a password only you and your child know, label backpacks on the inside (so strangers won’t know your name). Strangers can be men or women, old or young. Adults should not touch, give gifts to, or ask for help from children. If they do, don’t keep it a secret Tell an adult Arm your child with the knowledge that may save his or her life. My Review: This is a book for parents, grandparents, guardians, and teachers to go over with young children. While I feel it is a little intense (depending on age of the child) I do feel it is a serious issue which needs to be addressed often. The wording is simple, the water color illustrations by Sue Lynn Cotton are also simple but effective. This 24 page book is short, to the…

However, while many “friends” turned on her, the outlandishly unique Annika, always stayed true. There could be no better friend. Rich, Athletic, heart-throb Jeremy chose Julia to be…

Adult Books / May 4, 2015

This is a nostalgic story which is very well written. It contains key points all of us can learn from! This Tour is presented by      Book Description:  Elio Barati’s perfumery shop in Florence marks its entrance with a mosaic star. This shop immerses Elio in the artisanal world he loves, but he harbors a regret. As a young man he created a full-fledged perfume of jasmine, iris, and cypress at the renowned Ecole des Parfumeurs in Grasse—a fragrance his idealism and stubbornness boxed away before ever bringing it to light. A second star now brightens Elio’s life, his daughter Romina, an artist. She has her father’s unrealized talent, a precise and intuitive sense of smell. She’s also inherited more challenging traits of Elio’s: unbridled ambition and an insatiable wonder for the world. But changes ripple through modern-day Florence. Artisan traditions wane; and when Romina tells her father she has no intention of running the family business Elio fights to hold on to the Florence he cherishes. Confronting the lost opportunities of his youth, Elio is thrust into this journey by five spirited women: his Greek mother, Elena; his mentor Palma; his soul mate, Marina; his astronomer wife, Sofia;…

MEET ANOTHER GREAT YA /CHILDREN’S AUTHOR, CHERYL POTTER!
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / May 2, 2015

HI, EVERYONE! I AM EXCITED TO INTERVIEW ANOTHER GREAT YA/CHILDREN’S AUTHOR, CHERYL POTTER! 1. Cheryl, have you lived in Vermont your entire life? If not, what other places have you lived? If so, what other places would you like to visit or live? I was born and brought up in Maine and came to Vermont to go to college at Middlebury.  After graduation, I moved to Tucson, Arizona where I received my Master’s Degree in Fine Arts. After traveling for a few years, I finally moved back to Vermont where I have lived for 30 years, though my husband and I still have a small cabin in the National Forest in Prescott, AZ where I do most of my writing. Out of all of the places we have traveled, out favorite country is Peru.  I have always wanted to visit Peru. 2. Please, share with us a few things from your childhood, i.e. how many siblings, favorite pastime activities, a couple of favorite memories, etc. I am the oldest of three and grew up doing typical Down-east Maine things that just seemed normal at the time such as picking fiddleheads, raking blueberries, digging for clams, smelting under the Bangor Brewer…

‘Careful’ by Randy Anderson Book Tour, plus, My Review!
Adult Books / May 2, 2015

This is an Interesting  Coming of Age – Rites of Passage – Novel! This Tour is presented by    BLURB For two decades Tyler Gibbons has been keeping a secret from his family. At the tender age of sixteen, Tyler embarks on a student exchange program. Sent to the Andean city of Ambato, Ecuador, he finds daily adventure as he tries to fit in at school, connect with his host family, and navigate through a world of beaches, volcanoes, and jungles. But tucked deep inside this year are events so profound, so unexpected, they forever shape the man he will become. Now, 25 years later, his mother pulls these soaring tales from her son, exposing, for the first time, the source of a deep unhappiness. While these memories contain the wounds of an unresolved past, they also possess the power to heal his painful present. Thoughtfully crafted and boldly told, Tyler’s journey takes the reader on a wild South American adventure, while illuminating a mother’s unyielding power to heal her child. My Review: Careful is a story of the reminiscing of an estranged son with his mother when confronted with tragic circumstances. It is a story of a youth’s coming…

‘Maggie’s Image’ by Sharon Burchtoner – Book Review by LAWonder10
Adult Books , Young Adult Books / April 30, 2015

When Florida psychotherapist, Maggie McGill, plans a vacation visit to her daughter, Allie, in California the mysterious events initially seem only coincidences. But as the visit is plagued by a series of increasingly dangerous events they begin to fear for their safety. The two unsuspecting women are caught up in a mystery that causes them to follow a twisting trail of terror and uncover a diabolical conspiracy that threatens their very lives. Who is the inscrutable Sufi mystic who provides aid through their travails? How did he become part of their adventures? This is suspenseful story telling at it peak of gripping power tempered by a sense of fun and lighthearted mystery.  My Review: Sit back, relax and “wrap yourself around” this truly fun series!  Maggie Magill and her daughter Allie seem to attract weird situations and often find themselves in compromising positions. Maggie’s Image is the first of several books in the series. The author has created characters that are diverse, yet, very realistic. The scenes are simply but clearly described until one feels he/she is in the scene. This is more of a “chic lit” but it has enough masculinity to it, both genders can easily enjoy. While…

‘Jonah and the Last Grrat Dragon: Menace of the Night Creatures by M.E. Holley – Book Review by LAWonder10
Children's Books , Young Adult Books / April 24, 2015

When Jonah Drake and Ffyrnig, the Red Dragon of Wales, defeat the demons of the Underworld that attack Hereford, everyone in the area thinks that normality will return. But within two days there is the dreadful news that the Night Creatures have swarmed towards London. Accompanied by SAS Air Troopers, who ride eight of the Lesser Dragons of the Marches, Jonah and the Great Dragon fly to London, where they find that they must fight a monstrous water serpent. But the streets around St Paul’s Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge are deserted. Where are the Night Creatures? When the demons are discovered, the dragons use their firepower to try to drive them back underground. But an appalling accident happens. The UK’s only hope now of ridding the country of the Night Creatures comes in a stray remark made by the Great Dragon. Much against the Prime Minister’s better judgement, Jonah and Ffyrnig must fly alone to the Arctic to look for help.  MY REVIEW: The Menace of the Night Creatures continues a adventurous saga of Jonah and The Last Great Dragon. Jonah’s parents had a mission in Saudi Arabia, so – to Jonah’s dismay – left him in Wales with…

INTERVIEW WITH DEE POWER & BRIAN HILL!
Adult Books / April 22, 2015

I am excited to introduce the two authors of an awesome adult adventure/romance book to be released May 2015! Brian Hill & Dee Power!     1. Hi Brian, tell us a little about yourself, i.e. where you grew up, how many siblings, what things you enjoyed doing, and a couple of special childhood memories. I was born in Dallas, Texas, but spent most of my childhood in a small town in Wisconsin. I have two older brothers. I never liked the cold winters there (which is why I live in Phoenix now!), so some of my best memories were when the spring finally comes and you can get outside and play. And I developed a passion for football by watching the Green Bay Packers in the fall–a passion which I still have today.  Growing up in a small town like that is an idyllic experience. You always felt safe there. Other special memories were of my dad taking me to see the U.S. Open golf tournament several times on summer vacation. When I was a young boy, the great legends like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were still competing. It was a thrill to see them in person. Phoenix is definitely a much…

One element of God’s mission is for Deana to help heal a broken family in this small town. Part of the deal is that Deana has to get the man of God’s choosing to marry her, and she has no say on who this man is. Her faith keeps her going and what starts as a mandate develops into an amazing love story. Using her knowledge of biology and forensics, Nicole searches for answers—but will anyone take the horror she finds seriously? In this unusual thriller, ‘Watch the Shadows’, author Robin Winter explores where the ordinary slams against the extraordinary. My thoughts: If you want something very unique and a sci-fy, this book’s content is. However, beware! Book contains a lot of profanity and crude terms. Praise for ‘Night Must Wait’: “’Night Must Wait’ is a knockout. Robin Winter really delivers the goods with her twisting tale.”-Norb Vonnegut, author of…

Please share with us a little about yourself: i.e. where you grew up, how many siblings, a few favorite childhood memories, etc. Well…I grew up in the city of North Las Vegas, Nevada.  I loved growing up in the neighborhood we were raised in. I was the oldest.  Some of my favorite and most cherished memories are those that I spent with my dad and siblings at the baseball fields. My dad was an avid men’s softball player. We were raised playing softball and had so much fun hanging out and playing the sport myself.  I also have great memories of going camping every summer with my family to the Utah Mountains.  We had a blast romping around the mountains of Utah. 2.) SPOTLIGHT: America’s Suicide by Michael H. Davison
Adult Books / April 6, 2015

Synopsis per Goodreads: We are murdering industrial America, self-reliant America, entrepreneurial America, confident America, proud America. In its place we erect a welfare state, a nanny state, a parental state, a nation of dependent adults. Call it whatever you like. We stumble along, bitterly divided, not so far behind Western Europe. Is this good? If that is what we really want and freely vote for it. No non controversial moral principle forbids us to follow this course. But are we sufficiently aware of the not only economic price that we must inevitably pay? The salient question is why? Was this historically incomparable nation built on parental government principles? Can such a government guarantee greater freedom? Justice? Fairness? Compassion? Equality? Voters have repeatedly answered yes. To all the above questions this book forcefully answers no. The chapters focus on two overarching themes. One, the world, with emphasis on the United States, is in a potential deadly moral crisis as harmful principles and practices displace traditional ones among which many bring equal harm. Second, the book argues that the political solutions that we commonly apply to satisfy our needs must inevitably fail to achieve their purpose simply because our moral dilemma and…
