‘Max & Charlie’ by Zack Lieberman – Review by LAWonder10!
Children's Books / May 8, 2017

MAX & CHARLIE is a graphic novel adventure through the chaos of a dreamed New York City. We follow our reluctant young hero (Charlie!) as he chases his silly beagle pup (Max!) through a beautiful dreamed day in the city. But there’s something a little strange about this place… and we hope you read the book to discover what’s what! This beautifully-made book was printed in the USA and was created independently by a small team of independent artists in Brooklyn, USA and Bristol, UK. Learn more, check out lots of behind the scenes action, and lots more cool stuff at MAXandCHARLIE.com MY REVIEW: This is a brightly colorful “comic” style book. The characterizations are  cleverly done by illustrator, Louis Newbert. The text would best be appreciated by older elementary age youth or those in their early teens. Charlie observes a strange occurrence he feels he needs to search out. Max puts his “nose” where it creates problems for Charlie. They get “caught up” in a pandemonium of activity throughout New York. It totally “lost ” me! The conversations were very dimly written and hard to see. There was too much bedlam for me to follow. Although there were humorous parts, much was lost…

LET’S HUG and THE UNUSUALASAURAS Spotlight Tour & International Giveaway! (ends 1/28/16)
Children's Books / January 3, 2017

I am grateful to….  for providing this Children’s Book Tour and Giveaway! Book Description for Let’s Hug: 15 Hugs for Beginners: There must be over a millions ways to say “I love you” or “I care about you”, but with a single hug, even without words, you can simply feel it. This book is for toddlers, and encourages children and adults alike to try out all possible types of hugs. It’s everyone’s gain. It took seconds for the sweet testers who accompanied the writing of this book to adopt these 15 ways of showing love, to give and receive it. And our testers are not alone. Recent studies reveal that Oxitocin, the most fun hormone available, also known as the Love Hormone, is released into our bodies when we hug. Hugs are proven to have a generally positive healing and relaxing effect, since they increase calm and happiness, reinforce our self esteem, and support our sense of connection to those who are close to us. If you’d like to validate these studies, go ahead and hug. This book was beautifully illustrated by Yuval Israeli, and it’s the second creative collaboration between Yuval Israeli and Efrat Shoham. ‘The Sacrament Is for Me’ by Jessica B. Ellingson Book Review!
Children's Books / October 31, 2016

About the book: The sacrament is the most important part of the Sabbath day—and our week. Teach your little ones about the sacred sacrament and how they can apply it in their everyday lives, from the playground to piano lessons. Help your children start each week right and understand the reason behind the reverence of Jesus’s eternal sacrifice, love, and example. MY REVIEW: This is directed at an L.D.S. audience but would be good for other Christians as well. Within these pages are beautifully illustrated pictures by Chase Jensen, which will certainly capture each young child’s interest. The simply, rhymed sentences teaches the young child what the partaking of the Sacrament means and why we each should be very reverent. It suggests what actions are acceptable and not acceptable during this special time at church. It explains deeper meaning of the sacrament than most children’s book cover on this topic, yet in a very simple and picturesque manner. *This book was gifted me but I am in no way pressured to give a positive review. This receives a Five Stars rating. About the author: Jessica Ellingson grew up in the small town of Blanding, Utah….

The Christmas Project DVD Review Tour with Three of Us Reviewing it!!

I Just Watched a  New Christmas DVD Thar Was So Uplifting, That It Made Up For Some of the Faulty Acting. There is a Trailer for it below. (Some of the actors were very professional, but not all.) The Christmas Message Was Strong and the Kids Loved It! Thank you to Covenant Communications Publishing for the Movie Tour opportunity!  Since there is not yet a Synopsis for it, I will do my best without ruining it as part of my review. A family in middle class America has a tradition each year of voting on a special “family project”. This year, since the vote is split down the middle, the very pregnant Mom makes the deciding vote, although she will not be able to participate very much this year. The two eldest boys experience their first fascination with a girl, when a new family moves in across the street. The community has the never ending problem of “bullies” at school, which sometimes ends up in very embarrassing moments. especially, when a guy is trying to impress a young girl. It doesn’t help when two siblings are enchanted with the same girl, either. The film is filled with entertaining – and sometimes irritating – moments which keeps the…

Welcome to this Blog Tour and Giveaway presented by BeachBoundbooks. This Blog Tour is for the middle grade fantasy Stone Faces: An Alice and Friends Book by Anne Rothman-Hicks and Kenneth Hicks.  About the Book Read an Excerpt Hi. My name is Alice, and this is the story of the worst summer of my entire life. The trouble actually started way before the summer.  In fact, it was early spring when my parents and I took that long walk in Central Park. We all should have been in a really great mood because (finally!) the sun was out and it was nice and warm. But I remember glancing over at my mom and dad again and again as we walked, thinking that both of their faces had changed. It’s tough to describe. Their features had gotten sort of hard. They looked a lot like the carved stone faces on some of the buildings in our neighborhood. Anyway, I pretended that nothing was wrong and forgot about it until it was time to start planning our summer vacation. Here’s the thing…. I love going to the seashore more than almost anything in the whole world. Every summer for as long as…

I was watching an old home video of my oldest daughter, Sophia, when she was about six. She was trying to direct a play starring her two little sisters and the dog. Her sisters were having a great time, but not really listening. It didn’t help that we all cracked up laughing when Rachael started waltzing with the dog and Lucy sat down and started reading a book. Sophia was very bossy, but also very clear about what she wanted. I could see her innocence and her directness, and her frustration in making what she wanted happen.  In Bossy Flossy, Flossy is bossy. She bosses everyone around and doesn’t understand why…

Finally, after over three weeks they gave us a date of another three and a half weeks! It was finally held. I had a severe reaction to the devastation of that besides four other deaths this year of people very close to me. I love historical fiction based on fact! Written in a somber manner, the author has succeeded in keeping the reader’s interest with each page! Be sure to enter the International Giveaway at the end of this posting! Thank you Covenant Communication for this Review/Giveaway Tour! Trapped in East Germany by Carolyn Twede Frank It is the autumn of 1943, and Karin Graeber is keenly aware of the uneasy tide of change swirling around her. She is not alone—in wartime Berlin, it seems that everyone has been swept up in the frightening transformation of their city. No more than a child, Karin is far too young to understand the Nazi presence or the drone of air-raid sirens or the absence of her beloved Pappa, a soldier in the German army. But when a bomb destroys their home, Karin is forced to grow up far too soon as her family joins the tens of thousands displaced in the raids on the city. Relying on their faith as Latter-day Saints, Karin and her family begin a journey that will prove the indomitable strength of the human spirit. What follows is the sweeping narrative of one young girl’s journey through war and beyond—from her…
