‘The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich’ by Marcia Lynn McClure Book Blast & GIVEAWAY! (Ends 9/16/2014)

I hope I do not offend other wonderful authors by stating Marcia Lyn McClure is a favorite and I believe is incapable of writing anything but awesomely romantic, clean stories. ‘The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipsich’ is just another one of her amazing stories. I am honored to Host this Book Blast presented by… The Secret Bliss of Calliope Ipswich by Marcia Lynn McClure “Oh! Do link arms with me, Calliope,” Blanche whispered, her brown eyes widening with apprehension. She took Calliope’s arm, tightly linking it with her own. “The old Mulholland house still gives me the willies every time I walk past it. I hate to think on what might have gone on inside. It’s truly terrifyin’!” “Oh, don’t be silly, Blanche,” Calliope said, feigning calm. “Poor Prudence’s lunacy…it’s sad. And besides, her fiendish acts were not committed inside the house. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just…it’s just a sad, empty building.” Calliope Ipswich felt the hypocrite, however, as an uncomfortable shiver of residual dread and unease shuttered down her spine, More than six months had passed since the All Hollow’s Eve when the dangerous state of Prudence Mulholland’s fracturing mind had been revealed to the…

‘The Gypsy Thief (The Talisman Trilogy)’ by Kellie Bellamy Tayer – Book Review by LAWonder10
"New" YA Books / March 7, 2014

Either one of these hunks could be a thief of my heart! Gypsy Thief is the first of the Talisman Trilogy for YA. It gets slightly sensual in parts but I would be willing to let my YA read it. I would then discuss certain situations with them afterwards. Laura is an ordinary student beginning her Senior year of High School. She feels it will be lie every other year..boring. However, this year is definitely different. There is a new boy at school. He is no ordinary boy but an English Prince! But wait!.. There is another new boy arriving on the second day of school..a gypsy? Laura is normally unimpressed with titles or prestige, but finds herself drawn to both the Prince and the “under dog” gypsy. This confusing triangle is dangerous. Lara is confused and uncertain who she can trust. What has she gotten herself into? This is a well-written story in which the past is brought to fruition in the present. The plot is built on possible love of more than one person, plus, different types of love one experiences and one’s willingness to sacrifice for that love. It is also built on the impact traditions have…

‘He Came For Me’ – C.M. Brown – Book Review by LAWonder10
"New" YA Books , Fantasy , Young Adult Books / December 14, 2013

What a delightful story of intrigue, adventure and romance this was! It reminded me of a different popular series but with a few different twists – of course, any weird fantasy with two romantically involved beings would have the same affect on me. This tale was centered on a young college girl- Jazz – drawn into a totally different type of friends group… so different than her current one. It includes a mysterious young man -Seb – who quickly captures her attention and romantic interests. He is a total stranger, yet she feels safe and comfortable in his presence. Strange things are happening all around her. Her once safe, normal life suddenly no longer appears as such. Confused and engulfed in a myriad of conflicting emotions, her curiosity takes her into life-threatening circumstances. Can she possibly survive this? It begins to seem highly doubtful This is a fast-paced, moving, and romantic story. Jazz, unable to “sort things out” with all the confusing contradictions, and Seb, battling with unfamiliar feelings and his sense of loyalty two separate entities yet to his solemn duty. The story ending left the reader aching for the next book of the Protector series. The cover was…

‘For Love or Loyalty’ by Jennifer Hudson Taylor – Book Review by LAWonder10

For Love or Loyalty is a good title for this touching historical romance novel.  It relates to more than one instance. The serene appearance of the cover is also a good choice.  It is very descriptive of the female main character and the background hints at the storyline. It is light enough to be eye-catching and dark enough to set the verve of the story. The characterization was solid and the reader felt a definite connection to each. I love “highland” type stories. I find Ireland, Scottland, Wales contries to be so fascinating with a sense of mystic lore. However, only part of the story is in Scotland but is very much a story of early colonization before the Revolutionary War.  It reminds us there were many, other than black people, who were cruelly treated and made slaves of under the ruse of “indentured servants”.  Many of the “indentured servants” were never freed and many died under the deprivation and cruel treatments of slavery. This is a story of a family clan severely wronged by another family clan.  The eldest son of a widow is determined to seek revenge and tries to get even in a partial way by implementing a…

‘The Cutting Edge’ – by Ace Collins – Book Review by LAWonder10

‘The Cutting Edge’ is a great story of a model who finally “hit the Big Time” but at what cost?  Was it really worth the sacrifices she would be making? She decided to go back home where she would discuss it with her father,  realizing it was not only her life this decision would be affecting. She arrived late at night, deciding to spend the night in a motel rather than awaken her parents…a hotel she never made it to.  The ensuing events changed her life forever! This is a dynamic story concerning vanity, self worth, unconditional love, cruelty, violence, spiritual healing, dysfunctional families, The cover is very profound and reflects much of the story. It succeeds in getting one’s attention. The characters were very defined and the reader easily connected to them. However, the scene’s surrounding events could have been better described.   There were a few grammatical errors, as well. There were times when the “flow” of the story didn’t go well and there was some repetition. The story, itself, was good and “clean” enough for YA audiences. There were also many good points made…ideal for Book Club discussions. I fluctuated between giving a three or four stars book review rating and decided…

‘Starlet’s Run’ by Carla Hannah – book review by LAWonder10
"New" YA Books , Young Adult Books / June 10, 2013

Surprisingly, this second book of the Starlet’s series was better written than the first. Liana Marie Michaels is truly discovering who she is and Manuel is likewise finding who he is. The question is; Will this discovery allow them to stay together or direct them into going separate ways? Marie Michaels makes a major decision for her future. That decision leads us to the next book of the series in an effective way. There was not the obsession with excessive hormones in his book but I would still not encourage this for YA. Although there is nothing within the pages they do not face each day, the “world” does not need to be encouraged by inviting it into our homes and our youth’s individual lives.  The language is still crude and the content is still quite sexual. There is little adventure but mostly drama in this story. The author, Carla Hannah, generously exchanged this book for an honest review.  This is my honest review.  Setting aside my personal biases, my review of this book is a solid Four Star () rating. ‘Starlet’s Web’ by Carla J. Hanna – Book Review by LAWonder10
"New" YA Books , Adult Books / June 1, 2013

This was a difficult book for me to “get into”.  It seemed very repetitive and  to drag through most of the book.  Carla Hanna generously donated it in exchange for an honest review and this is.  I really hate when I cannot lend a firm support to new authors. This is my “take ” of the story. One:  This is meant to be a Young Adult book. I suppose it would be listed as a “New” YA book. (I think that “new” genre is ridiculous. Does “more mature” mean many who object to profanity and sexual explicitness are not mature?)  I feel it would benefit all, if we put more emphasis on the importance of Literary language and a more moral society.  We cannot accomplish this by applauding the use of crude words and descriptive, explicit sex.  If we want a better society for future generations we need to precipitate our education and literature to a level of moral integrity.  With that said, I would not recommend this novel for YA. It contains profanity, and obsessive sexual thoughts and promiscuity. More than a story, it seems like a dairy of a Starlet.  Marie was a child star who will soon be…
