![]() Book Details: Book Title: The Revolutionist by Robert Tucker Category: Adult Fiction, 649 pages | Genre: Historical Fiction Publisher: Tell-Tale Publishing Group LLC / Wise Words Publishing Release date: 12/03/2017 | Format available for review: print, ebook Tour dates: May 27 to June 28, 2019 Content Rating: PG + M (This book contains slight graphic violence, Any depicted violence is relevant to the historical period, as are scenes of brutal World War 11 vendettas, white slave prostitution, sexual and physical abuse, and one of an abortion mill. They are written with sensitivity as to time and place and with appropriate literary language.) Book Description: Two different families escape from the political tyranny of their respective homelands, the Josephsons from Sweden and Matias and Kurt Bauman, brothers from Germany and Austria Hungary, with the aid of a Viennese opera diva, Sophie Augusta Rose, and Jean Guenoc, a former Jesuit priest, family friend and protector and partisan of the French underground. Their journey brings them to America in the throes of the industrial revolution during the 1890s and early 1900s. Ingrid and Olaf Josephson settle on a small wheat farm in North Central Minnesota to raise their children, Newt and Julie. Among the Jewish entrepreneurs forced to leave Germany and Austria-Hungary, Matias and Kurt Bauman re-establish their transportation company in Chicago, Illinois. In search of a secret list of insurgent social democrats, the bounty hunter assassin, Luther Baggot, tracks his victims to the American heartland. Following the murder of their mother and father, Newt, Julie, and their friends, Aaron and Beth Peet, hide from the killer in a Northern Minnesota logging camp. Believing the children have taken possession of the list, Luther tracks them down and they are forced to flee again, this time to Chicago where a different world opens up to them as they are thrust into the turmoil and violence of an urban society and economy careening into the new century. Buy the Book: Amazon ~ Barnes & Noble ~ Audible | ~ Add to Goodreads REVIEW by LAWonder10: This is a steadily forward-moving historical tale based on true stories. It is stories of courageous, remarkable individuals, as well as, those who simply are trying to hold onto a better life and their family survival. It is also of a deranged, ruthless killer determined to take revenge on a certain "list" of people. A boy and his sister, after losing everything, flee for their lives, accompanied by a close friend, then later, the sister to their friend. This is a tale of, not only survival, but of co-dependence, perseverance, evolving from hardship to social standing and of injustice. The book has a climatic ending, laving the reader eager for the next book by this author. Robert Tucker is a talented author who fills his stories with excitement and smooth flowing details. Generally, I find a large usage of details distracting, but this author has successfully done so in a way the individuals and scenes are easily visualized and the reader feels more a part of the details rather than simply viewing them. The cover and name were chosen well. Beware: There are some crude words used, occasionally, throughout the book. I feel this book earns a Five Stars rating. *This book was gifted me with no requirement for a positive review. This is my honest review. VIEW the TRAILER BELOW: Robert Tucker Guest Post - The Revolutionist. During the early 1900s, waves of immigrants from Europe and Asia settled in major American cities. Met with hostility from native-born Americans in competition for jobs, they were forced into poverty-stricken ethnic neighborhoods and into dilapidated multi-family tenements. Witnessing such squalor in the Chicago slums plants the seeds of Julie Josephson’s revolutionary fervor. Having come from an agrarian origin, her early life follows the transition of America into the Industrial Age and the struggles of men and women against their subjugation and exploitation by capitalists and corrupt politicians in the chaos of an emerging middle-class society. From an historical perspective, the recurrence of the lack of ethics, morality, racial prejudice, and of the lack of an appreciation for human value in modern times is an example of history repeating itself. What in your life and times is being repeated? The extent of discrimination against African Americans in the legal system motivates Julie Josephson to befriend Ophelia Robinson, an African American maid who is Julie’s friend and confidant at the Bauman mansion. Bernard Hutchins, an African American defense lawyer attempting to carve out a career in the racist legal system, confronts the prejudice of the court in attempting to exonerate a prisoner from a fabricated crime. Laws and politicians barred African Americans unless it was to prosecute them for crimes against white citizens. These were the cases that Bernard sought, Black defendants in the dangerous territory of white courts. How has the legal system changed today? How has it not? What are causes of discrimination? ![]() Meet the Author: Robert is published by Tell-Tale Publishing Group LLC / Wise Words Publishing under a multi-book contract. Goodreads | ~ Purchase: Amazon Excerpt Two Beth stood in the center of the room and raised her glass. “To the next generation.” The crowd responded. Glasses clinked then drained. More bottles of champagne appeared in the waitstaff’s hands and glasses were refilled. So. It was going to be that kind of party. Shifters metabolized alcohol quickly and it required quite a bit of effort, on their part, to become drunk. From the way the guests were tossing back their glasses Angie assumed more than one would be tipsy before the afternoon’s end. Betty took the seat next to Angie. “I hope you don’t mind. Since I’m mated to the pack beta I’m expected to sit next to the mother-to-be.” “And it’s rumored to increase her fertility,” someone shouted from the crowd. Betty squirmed, looking as uncomfortable as Angie felt. The beautiful wolf shifter’s gaze drifted to Angie’s belly, turning envious for a second before she glanced away. It wasn’t a secret that Betty and Ken desired their own litter of puppies. “Well, then you better scoot your chair even closer.” Angie moved the table separating them out of the way and gestured to Betty. An odd game began where Beth handed out slips of paper containing a list to all the guests. They emptied the contents of their purses. Angie peered over Betty’s shoulder. It was like bingo but instead of numbers people were ticking off objects. Taser, pepper spray, jerky, and claw clippers were some of the items listed. Angie snorted. She had been to baby showers before but they had all been for humans. Beth approached with an armful of brightly wrapped presents. “While they play for prizes, you open presents. Pass them to Betty and she’ll take note of the gift and who it’s from.” The omega handed a small book and pen to the other woman. “Yes, ma’am.” Angie winked. Throwing parties came naturally to Beth. She had even organized Betty and Ken’s wedding. An event New Port would never forget. After opening a few gifts, Angie stared at the items. Kong dog toys as teething rings, scratch posts for developing claws, and fire-retardant blankets were the key items that caught her attention. She stroked her hand over her developing child. Would she have to find a pediatrician for the baby or a veterinarian? All this time, she had imagined a soft, pink baby in her arms. Now? A sharp toothed, scaly terror chasing the cats within the castle. She scratched her chin. She had zero experience with either and found both images frightened her equally. ![]() AUTHOR BIO: Annie Nicholas writes paranormal romance with a twist. This volume will inspire followers of Christ to draw on the power of His Atonement by embracing a deeper understanding of His parables. REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Although written for an audience of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints members, this is also an informative and excellent book for ALL Christians to read. It is primarily covering the information in the Four Gospels of the New Testament. For example, did you know that the New Testament is translated into 3.223 languages? If that doesn't interest you, then did you ever realize Mark and Luke never even, personally, knew the Savior? Matthew was a Jew and his writings do not clarify Jewish custom, nor symbols, because he primarily wrote to aid in the Jew's understanding and, hopefully, conversion. Mark is believed to be Peter's scribe. Most of his writing is directed toward a Gentile audience, providing the most parables, going into greater detail, yet is the shortest of all "the Gospels". Luke was Saul's physician before Saul became Paul. Luke remained by Paul's side until Paul's death. Luke was never maried and died at age 84. He is perceived to be the Chistian's first historian. He spoke with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and other's who poersonally knew the Savior. His writing contain's information not found in the other three gospels. John's writing do not contain one single parable. While the other Gospels write about Jesus activites, John KNEW Jesus and wrote about the man, the Redeemer, personal conversations and interactions with individuals. His writing contain information not found in the other three Gospels because he knew that information had been covered. Hank Smith writes in the manner he speaks, with facts , yet with much humor. He keeps the reader's interest while inspiring and enlightening him/her. The Book Title and cover are very "fitting", yet, the cover could have been more eye-catching for the "browser". This still earns a Five Stars rating. *This book was gifted me with no request for a positive review. Buy the Book: Amazon ~ Barnes & Noble | Add to Goodreads MY REVIEW: (LAWonder10) If you are searching for an unique, thrilling suspense/mystery book, then search no more. The 'Song of Atlantis' is truly just that... A spoken song by Atlantisians spoken long ago. It is about a very unique group of professionals working on the amazing find by anthropologists. Although fictional, it is written in a very, interesting, feasible way. There are several unexpected "twists" in this group's amazing "top Secret" journey. This is a bitter-sweet tale, involving the legendary Atlantis, that will capture the reader's attention and hold it all the way thorough the book. In order to make this discovery complete, a variety of geniuses in various fields of expertise were brought into this research. A statement in the book caught my interest, since I love music... "...The keys to understanding are mathematics and... song language.." "Mathematics and music are the only true constants." Although this was written with too much detail, for my tastes, is was a very interesting story with unexpected "twists". The characters were very realistic, as was the various scenes. Each switch from past to present then back were done very smoothly an easily followed. The Title was perfect and the Book Cover was chosen well, although too simply to attract "the Browser's" attention. No explicit pornographic sex, but frequent profanity. Book Description: Growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation, David Crow and his three siblings idolized their dad. Tall, strong, smart, and brave, the self-taught Cherokee regaled his family with stories of his World War II feats. But as time passed, David discovered the other side of Thurston Crow, the ex-con with his own code of ethics that justified cruelty, violence, lies—even murder. A shrewd con artist with a genius IQ, Thurston intimidated David with beatings to coerce him into doing his criminal bidding. David’s mom, too mentally ill to care for her children, couldn’t protect him. One day, Thurston packed up the house and took the kids, leaving her with nothing. Soon he remarried, and David learned that his stepmother was just as vicious and abusive as his father. Through sheer determination, and with the help of a few angels along the way, David managed to get into college and achieve professional success. When he finally found the courage to stop helping his father with his criminal activities, he unwittingly triggered a plot of revenge that would force him into a showdown with Thurston Crow. With lives at stake, including his own, David would have only twenty-four hours to outsmart his father—the brilliant, psychotic man who bragged that the three years he spent in the notorious San Quentin State Prison had been the easiest time of his life. The Pale-Faced Lie is a searing, raw, palpable memoir that reminds us what an important role our parents play in our lives. Most of all, it’s an inspirational story about the power of forgiveness and the ability of the human spirit to rise above adversity, no matter the cost. Buy the Book: Amazon ~ Barnes & Noble | Add to Goodreads Review by LAWonder10: This is a devastating tale of a family beyond dysfunctional! The cruelty and neglect of children is heart-wrenching! Pale-Faced Lie is a testimonial of how one can rise above his/her circumstances and challenges to become whoever they want to be. Not only did David Crow have to overcome incredible childhood neglect, abuse and delinquency, but, also, learning disability and poor hearing and sight. David's tale is an inspiration to all, but I disliked the continual profanity and crude language. I unerstand that i part of the effect of what he endured but the reader could have "got the picture" with less actual strong language. Pale-faced Lie is a great Title. It is a "play on words" because of the parent's Indian/Caucasian heritage. It is also about continual lies. The Cover is eye-catching and depicts the story content well. This is very well written and successfully keeps the reader's interest throght his story. One can feel the intensity of the emotions and situations portrayd through diction. Thus, following the shock of a recent fire at Rosings Park, the young woman is spirited away to Brighton to take the cure. While her domineering mother is bent on healing her daughter’s sickly constitution to secure her a suitable match, Anne herself is far more concerned with sketching the flora and fauna of the lovely sea town. It is in pursuit of artistic inspiration among the flowers that Anne becomes acquainted with Mr. Owen Talbot, a charming man with whom Anne feels an immediate connection, notwithstanding their differing stations. But despite their growing esteem for one another, the couple faces an insurmountable problem: Lady Catherine has set her sights on a rich, well-connected man for her daughter, and Mr. Talbot is simply too common. With their love in jeopardy, the couple soon faces far graver problems. There has been a murder in Brighton, and Anne is innocently drawn into an amateur investigation that ultimately traces its roots to her own family. With a frightening foreshadowing regarding the de Bourghs, Anne begins to question whom she can truly trust. MY REVIEW (LAWonder10): Ronda Gibb Hinricksen is a very talented author. I believe this to be one of her very best books written so far! Finding Anne de Bourgh is about "finding" in multiple ways... Finding a missing woman; Finding oneself; Finding the real person within the outward facade. This tale is a wonderful drama, with romance, daring and suspense. It is a story on not allowing our circumstances to rule us. The characters are well-developed , as always, and the situations portrayed in a way they are easily visualized. As always, Ronda Hinricksen has researched history, making this as realistic as possible. The Cover and Title are very "fitting"This earns a Five Stars rating. *This was gifted me with no instruction for a positive review. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever. The bet does more than expose Persephone’s failure as a Goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows--and it’s forbidden. Goodreads | EXCERPT: Why? We need to celebrate! Persephone smiled. Ever since she’d told Lexa about her new job two weeks ago, she’d been hounding her to go out for drinks. Persephone had managed to postpone the outing, but she was quickly running out of excuses and Lexa knew it. I am celebrating. Persephone text. With a vanilla latte. Not with coffee. Alcohol. Shots. You + Me. Tonight. Before Persephone could respond, a waitress approached holding a tray and her steaming latte. Persephone came here often enough to know the girl was as new as the narcissus. Her hair was in two braids, and her eyes were dark and laced with heavy lashes. The girl smiled and asked, “Vanilla latte?” “Yes,” Persephone said. The waitress sat Persephone’s mug down, and then tucked her tray under her arm. “Need anything else?” Persephone met the girl’s gaze. “Do you think Lord Hades has a sense of humor?” Her eyes widened, and she responded, “I don’t know what you mean.” The girl was clearly uncomfortable, probably at hearing Hades’ name. Most tried to avoid saying it, or they called him Aidoneus, to avoid drawing his attention, but Persephone wasn’t afraid. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that she was a goddess. “I think he must have a sense of humor,” she said. “The narcissi are a symbol of spring and rebirth,” her fingers hovered over the petals. If anything, the flower should be her symbol. “Why else would he claim it as his?” Persephone stared back at the girl, and her cheeks flushed. She stammered, “L-let me know if you need anything.” She bowed her head and went back to work. ![]() AUTHOR BIO: Scarlett St. Clair lives in Oklahoma with her husband. REVIEW by LAWonder10: Charlotte was torn from her little brother after they witnessed the horrible deaths of their parents and many others. For some reason, she and her brother were spared and sold to slavers. She had endured endless abuse but would survive for her brother's sake. She promised she would find him and she would... somehow. One stormy night, her slavers were distracted and she was able to escape. She found a man's outfit hanging on a line and quickly traded her dress for it. She cut her long, golden, locks, put on a cap and sought work on a ship as a boy. Through her determination and tenacity, she was able to secure a position on a ship which would take her to New Orleans where her brother was, most likely, taken to. Captain Alden Thatcher couldn't believe his first mate and the others, couldn't see this was no boy but a girl. As he was about to dismiss her, her captures approached his ship determine to search it for the missing girl. He would never allow those filthy scoundrels to take her so went along with her ruse, expecting the worse. This is an amazing tale of the perseverance and bravery of a young woman, determined to prove herself in order to find her young brother. It is, also, about the comradery of a loyal ship crew with each other and their captain, during a contemptuous time of American history before the Revolutionary War documents were signed and acknowledged. The author's notes at the end of the book adds great tidbits of, little known, historical facts. The characters were so realistic, as were the scenes. The reader was easily "brought into" the story. There was constant adventure and action from the beginning page to the very end. This was very well written. The various scenes smoothly flowed one to the other. The Book Cover and title were a perfect "fit". I offer a Five Stars rating for this novel. *This book was gifted me with no request for a positive review. This is my honest review. ![]() Charlotte's Promise - Jennifer Moore I absolutely love this story! It is very well-written.
