In this sequel to the well-received The Revolutionist, the American journey of three generations locks the neophyte company president, Burton Blake, in a vicious struggle with corporate intrigue, financial greed, and social corruption. Born to a taxi dancer at the beginning of the Second World War, Burton’s father, Elias Blake, never knows his natural father, who is killed in the South Pacific. He is raised by his mother and stepfather from her second marriage who makes his fortune during the post war real estate boom of the 50’s. Their untimely death by his business partner leaves the boy Elias in the guardianship of his mother’s best friend and her marine vet husband who introduces him to the macho culture of guns and hunting.
Elias’s youth is influenced by the adult world’s drive for personal material gain. Over the next decades, he expands his parents’ original real estate empire into the diversified multi-divisional, multi-national corporation that he leaves to his son, Burton. Upon his forced return from traveling and working with oppressed third world people, Burton learns increasingly more about the true nature of his deceased father as he undertakes the challenges of leading the company in a new direction.

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Kim is much younger than her husband which may account for his jealousy... A jealousy which almost cost them, both, their lives. Kim got out of the car in time, but her husband did not flee and is now paralyzed. The problem is, she feels guilty when she has no reason to feel that way. Her husband blames her and refuses to talk to her, or even acknowledge she is his wife, financially and every other way. Kim hopes with time he will return to the man she married.
Derek was starting his own business in his "dream location" where he intended to settle down and one day have a family. After meeting Kim on the beach one evening, he could not get her out of his mind. She was a married woman and he didn't condone such interactions. He certainly didn't need the complication of a relationship on his life.
Little did either of them know what was happening without their knowledge!
This is a book which can keep the reader "on the edge of his/her seat". There are several twists and a lot of emotion involved..
The characters feel real, the scenes portrayed so they are easily visualized. The Book Cover is attractive and the Title and Cover are both "fitting."
This is very well written. There are a couple of sex scenes which are very suggestive but fades out before they become explicit. There is also some brief profanity scattered throughout the book.
It earns a Five Stars rating for its literary content and style.
This book was gifted with no requirement for a positive review. This is my hones review.

GUEST POST: Is It Possible to Fall in Love at First Sight? By Elyse Douglas
I have thought about this question many times in my life, especially since it often occurs in our novels. As writers, we’re in good company. Just scroll through the list of the most popular romantic novels, movies and plays, and you’ll see that many showcase a star-struck lover. Case in point: the immortal Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Below are some quotes that may surprise you. The first two are from women, the second two from men.
The advantage of love at first sight is that it delays a second sight. —Natalie Clifford Barney
I believe in love at first sight for houses - but not for people. —Danielle Steel
For me and my wife, it was love at first sight. —Jeff Bridges
Whoever loved that loved not at first sight? —Christopher Marlowe
I confess I do believe in love at first sight. I have to. My husband, Doug, tells me he fell in love with me at first sight. Did I with him? Well, no, I must confess. It took me a bit longer. The subject is an endless source of debate between us as we write novels about couples who meet and fall in love. Do they fall in love at first sight? Or must they undergo some crucible that eventually knits their hearts together in love? Two very different approaches and two very different novels.
I might agree with George Bernard Shaw, who said, “First love is only a little foolishness and a lot of curiosity.”
In a 2018 article in Psychology Today, written by Theresa E. DiDonato, Ph.D., science weighs in on this subject. The article is entitled Is Love at First Sight Real?
“… Researchers asked nearly 400 men and women to complete surveys about potential romantic partners immediately after first encountering those individuals. This included indicating their agreement with the statement, ‘I am experiencing love at first sight with this person,’ as well as reporting how physically attractive they found the person, and how much passion (i.e. sexual attraction) they felt.”
What did the researchers conclude?
1. Love at first sight isn’t just biased memory. (It’s a powerful initial attraction that might become a relationship.)
2. You’re more likely to feel love at first sight with beautiful people. (Isn’t beauty in the eye of the beholder?)
3. Men report love at first sight more often than women. (Researchers aren’t sure why.)
4. Love at first sight isn’t usually mutual. (One partner's powerful first experience may help shape the other person's recollection.)
5. Love at first sight isn’t really “love.”
Again, from the article: “In sum, the science favors the romantics. Love at first sight actually is experienced by people, but it's not so much “love” or “passion.” Instead, it's a strong pull or attraction that makes someone particularly open to the possibilities of a relationship.”
Okay then, fine. In our new novel, Daring Summer, Kim and Derek are intensely attracted to each other at first sight. Call it love or call it lust that morphs into love, but they do develop compassion, commitment and tenderness that sees them through a very difficult journey.
By the way, Prince Harry reportedly experienced love at first sight, saying he knew Meghan Markle was the one for him “the very first time we met.” (BBC interview)
Portia de Rossi has said pretty much the same about Ellen DeGeneres, as has Matt Damon about his wife, Luciana.
Has love at first sight ever happened to you? No… Well, who knows, it could happen tomorrow as you approach the corner of Lonesome Way and Cupid Corner! - Elyse Douglas

Excerpt # 2
Rebecca nudged me, but I pretended to be asleep. She shook me again. I groaned but didn’t move. She heaved out a single weighty breath. It felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Why did I promise her that we’d visit her parents this afternoon? I wasn’t ready to tell them that we were back together. They loved me when we first dated, but then I broke her heart. There was no way they’d give me another chance, was there?
The entirety of the quaint, little town we both came from talked about how much they hated me. What would they think about Rebecca giving me another chance? The neighbors and all our close friends would have something to say. Her folks came from a conservative community, and I knew all too well how much they frowned upon married men dating before getting divorced. They had spread rumors that Amanda was my mistress back in the day, but that hadn’t been the case. It was true I had moved on, but I hadn’t cheated on Rebecca. Not like I had done to Amanda.
She nudged me harder. “Come on, Matt. Wake up.”
I grumbled and turned over to make eye contact with her. “I’m getting up. I didn’t sleep well last night.” It was the truth.

Excerpt #2; Ghosteye’s POV:
In his room, Ghosteye sank to the rose-colored sofa—propping his crutches against the cushion—and felt a strange emptiness swallow him. He should be used to being alone. It was the one thing he understood, the one thing he had been more than he’d ever been anything else: on his own. It was what he preferred. He liked having time to think. A carved out space in the world where he was just himself: Ghosteye, the one who saw, who enticed a story from the raw materials of mundane people. Their existence was random and unimportant, until he forced them into the spotlight. To become the lofty. The desirable. For that, he was powerful. He could make someone. He could break them. There was no end to what he could do.
And yet, if all that were true, why did this sudden loneliness sound as heavy and explosive as a rocket engine? Why didn’t it feel sleek, smooth, and comfortable? Maybe . . . maybe he enjoyed being around people? Blythe, Marci, Beth, and the bustling camp of people—even the short time he was there, he’d grown used to the busy atmosphere, the constant intrusions on his thoughts. Nothing now. Just himself in the thick room full of rather frilly extravagances, a bedspread, French doors leading exquisitely into the bedroom. A fireplace. And he didn’t have to see the bathroom to know that its raw materials probably cost as much as a house for some people. Like those who lived on the lowest tiers of Sweet Life. He’d unintentionally—or intentionally, he couldn’t decide—endorsed that awful system by being such a key component in its workings.
He should be crushed for that. He should be sent to the salt mines of some long-forgotten tyrannical dictator for being the eyes that saw everything but never did anything. And the things he had seen. . . .
Some of them he’d rather forget.
And now. He was the one being watched. He was no longer powerful. His power, would it be in saving Ramone? Could he?
OTHER BOOKS in the SERIES:
Nicole writes stories about surveillance and how it affects human behavior, colonization, AI, robots, and a bunch of other impossible but cool scenarios. She studied folklore in college and believes that the best parts of any story touch on these living, changing elements of culture.

What we didn't realize at the time was that those skills we learned for the building blocks which lay the foundation for the rest of our lives. What are our children learning right now? How are they playing now and what part are we playing in how our children interact with the world around them.
For many children, their idea of play and playing now consists of talking to friends online and playing with electronic devices, staying safe indoors, and not venturing further than their own small safe world which we have created.

GUEST POST: PLAY LIKE EVERYBODY IS WATCHING
Throughout my book, Play to Live, and especially at the end of each chapter – sections called “Here’s the Play” – I provide tips and suggestions on how to easily incorporate play into your life and ways to help others live a more playful lifestyle.
The benefits of living playfully are many – namely, that people who play gain life skills and joy, hence the subtitle of the book.
When people are afraid to dance at a party, such as a wedding reception, a common phrase that others say to them is “dance like nobody is watching.” That phrase is supposed to calm the nerves of those slightly nervous to dance. It tries to help them remove the focus on them, and that everyone will be watching them, and judging them.
The same is true with play. Adults, especially, are sometimes a little nervous to be silly, to go down the slide, the build a sandcastle, to jump from rock to rock across a stream, to play carelessly. Maybe they should be told to “play like nobody is watching.”
But what if we told people to “play like everybody is watching?”
Play can be infectious. If one person is playing, it’s hard to be just an observer. It’s easier to jump right in, and play alongside, or play with that other person. When one person is playing, the social stigmas of “it’s just for kids,” or “I’m an adult now, I can’t do that” seem to disappear. After all, it’s hard to ignore the smiles, the laughter, and the joy that comes from playing freely.
If people played like everybody is watching, that playful energy will spread to others. The smiles will spread. The laughter will spread. And the joy will spread. All by simply playing like everyone is watching.
My book has many different tips on how to life playfully and incorporate play into your daily life. We can all play like nobody is watching, but let’s try to play like everybody is watching.

Brian has helped thousands of people find their natural talent to play and become happier and healthier people through the power of play.

Synopsis: Introducing an exciting new series filled with suspense, sacrifice, family, and most of all, the healing power of love. Welcome to the Family…
One. Defining. Moment.
Kasey Moore is happy to be home. Moving to New Hope as a teenager hadn’t been easy, but once she settled in, she couldn’t imagine herself living anywhere else. After four years in College, she’s finally back to living in the town she loves and working her dream job as a teacher at the Elementary School.
For Kasey, her life couldn’t be more perfect.
Until a school assembly, an arrogant man, and a hot encounter in a closet shakes up everything Kasey thinks she wants.
Ten years as a Navy SEAL and Jackson Dimarco is coming home.
Ten years of rigid schedules, almost unreachable expectations, and being a part of something bigger than himself has changed him. Coming home, trying to find himself, the last thing Jax wants to do is talk to an auditorium full of school kids about his time in the military, but when his brother signs him up that’s exactly what he ends up doing.
And he meets someone who challenges him in a way nobody has in a very long time. He meets someone who inspires him to become more than who he’s settled for. He meets someone who makes him feel alive again.
It’s just a shame she doesn’t feel the same way.
But Jackson Dimarco has always loved a challenge and Kasey Moore is the biggest incentive he’s ever had to win.
This is a novella in The Dimarco Series. Can be read as a standalone and at any point in the series. However, if new to the series, I’d recommend reading this novella before the first book in the series, Lucy.

REVIEW By LAWonder10:
The Walkers were on a much needed vacation at the Caribbean.
What began as a very unique, fascinating trip to a part of the island unknown to most, ended up in a devastating conclusion.
Returning to America and their home in Utah, the Walkers felt safe again. Since their vacation was "cut short", they decided to go to their ranch in Idaho to "winterize" it. Little did they know wat they would face there.
This was a fast paced novel of a vacation turned for the worse and corrupt individuals.
This murder mystery will keep you in suspense until the las page!
The characters are well developed and the reader can feel their personalities. They, as well as the scenes, are easily visualized. The Book Cover and Title are very fitting. However, the Cover would not be an "eye-catcher" or a "browser".
The story flowed smoothly, with constant suspense to retain the reader's interest.
There is some graphic violence but otherwise recommended for YA, also.
The only negative I could find in this very well-written novel is, although the story was a great, realistic tale - based on actual events - there as a lack of feeling connected and a part of the tale. It just wasn't a "I just could not put it down" novel.
I offer a Four and a Half Stars rating.

Book Title: Eternally Artemisia – Some loves, like some women, are timeless by Melissa Muldoon
Category: Adult Fiction (18+), 312 pages | Tour dates: June 3 to 28, 2019
Publisher: Matta Press | Release date: March 2019
Format available for review: print, ebook (mobi, ePub}
Content Rating: PG-13 + M (The book focuses on the life of Artemisia Gentileschi who was raped by her painting instructor, Agostino Tassi. The themes of the book deal with rape and overcoming sexual abuse. It is a book about female empowerment and how with the right tools, and support women may rise above past tragedies to build a better future for themselves.)
They say some loves travel through time and are fated to meet over and over again. For Maddie, an art therapist, who wrestles with the “peculiar feeling” she has lived previous lives and is being called to Italy by voices that have left imprints on her soul, this idea is intriguing. Despite her best efforts, however, proof of this has always eluded her. That is, until one illuminating summer in Italy when Maddie’s previous existences start to bleed through into her current reality. When she is introduced to the Crociani family—a noble clan with ties to the seventeenth-century Medici court that boasts of ancestors with colorful pasts—she finally meets the loves of her life. One is a romantic love, and another is a special kind of passion that only women share, strong amongst those who have suffered greatly yet have triumphed despite it.
As Maddie's relationship develops with Artemisia Gentileschi—an artist who in a time when it was unheard of to denounce a man for the crime of rape, did just that—Maddie discovers a kindred spirit and a role model, and just what women are capable of when united together.
In a journey that arcs back to biblical days and moves forward in time, Maddie encounters artists, dukes, designers, and movie stars as well as baser and ignoble men. With Artemisia never far from her side, she proves that when we dare to take control of our lives and find the “thing” we are most passionate about, we are limitless and can touch the stars.

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
The story begins with the trying times of Atremesia. It then moves forward to present day, with trials Maddie is experiencing. The book continues to fluctuate between past and present, but the author has clearly marked in which time frame the stories are taking place.
Maddie happens onto Some of Artesia's art. It is strikingly unique. This stirs her curiosity about the artist. What she discovers will change her life forever!
This book contemplates the theory of past lives and of life after death. It, also, depicts the sacrifices of just a few, to "bring about" greater freedom and justice for all. In many ways womankind has evolved, yet, in some ways, we have lost much.
Maddie explores places of the past. Each new day offers new enlightenment ab discoveries... Things that will open her understanding and appreciation.
The characters were well-defined and felt real. The scenes were portrayed well, at times too easily visualized.
The Book Cover, done by the author, was colorful and eye-catching. The Book Title was "fitting"
I feel this earns a Three and a Half Stars rating.

Guest Post : Why I wrote Eternally Artemisia
They say to write what you know best, and what I know best is art and Italy! I didn’t start out to write a trilogy, but as I was working on my third novel, I realized I had. Each book, Dreaming Sophia, Waking Isabella and Eternally Artemisia stands on its own, but still, there is a common theme that connects them all and that is—what draws a woman to Italy and why. In each book, I explore the forces at play that cause my protagonists, sometimes against their will, to follow the gentle tug and pull of Italy to make a life there, despite great odds.
Maybe this is because I’m always trying to explain my own “peculiar” fascination with Italy, the Italian people and the language. I have always felt an inexplicable hand pulling me to Italy, despite having no Italian heritage. Like all my female protagonists—Sophia, Nora, and Maddie—sometimes I too feel like I have been persuaded by Italian artists and Medici princess’—even seduced by Tuscan ghosts from the past—who whisper into my ear, to learn the language and
return home to Italy time and time again. So, perhaps like my characters, I too have lived another life in Italy—or perhaps several!
Apart from that, my goal with my books has also been to bring art history to life for my readers. I believe “art” can talk to you and there are stories to be revealed if you take the time to “listen.” I find it fascinating to contemplate the idea that art endures, but people pass away and are forgotten. In other words, there remain paintings and cathedrals created by artists and architects who worked hundreds and thousands of years ago—all tangible proof that lives were lived in the past, people loved well and had hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Rather than let these forgotten historical figures and painters remain vague dusty statics in a history book, I want to reanimate their stories and make them real and poignant again for future generations.
Melissa Muldoon is the author of three novels set in Italy:
“ Dreaming Sophia,” “ Waking Isabella,” and “ Eternally Artemisia.”
All three books tell the stories of American women and their journeys of self-discovery to find love, uncover hidden truths, and follow their destinies to shape a better future in Italy.
Melissa has a B.A. in fine arts, art history and European history from Knox College, a liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, as well as a master's degree in art history from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She has also studied painting and art history in Florence. She is an artist, designer, and illustrated the cover art for all three of her books. Melissa is also the managing director of Matta Press
Melissa designed and illustrated the cover art for Eternally Artemisia, Waking Isabella, and Dreaming Sophia. She also curates the Dreaming Sophia Art History blog site and Pinterest site: The Art of Loving Italy, where you will find companion pictures for all three books. Jaya's fairytale was crumbling. Her perfect marriage had all but vanished, she couldn't concentrate on the career she had worked so hard to succeed at and her devastating losses seemed to consume her.
After her estranged husband's shocking news, when she discovered a letter stating her mother's father had died and left her something, Jaya defied her mother and escaped to India where her parents had been raised. What she discovered, in gradual segments, would change her life forever.
This is an phenomenal, bittersweet tale of forbidden love, anguished spirits, loss, forgiveness, unconditional love, and redemption... Added topics are: humorous quips, devotion, understanding, abuse and pain.
The characters are portrayed in such a realistic way, one forgets, at times, it is fiction. The scenes are vividly "played out", it feels as though one is there.
The story smoothly flows from one scene to another in a totally captivating manner. The literary skills of this author are exceptional. She completely involves the reader and he/she feels very connected to all aspects of the story.
The Title is perfect but the Book cover would be more appealing to the "browser" if there were a more picturesque image.
*SPOILER: Perhaps it has affected me more than some, for I have experienced the pain of miscarriages and the fear of never having children.
Despite the slight "flaw", in reference to the cover, it would be unfair not to offer a solid Five Stars rating.

GUEST POST: HOW I FOUND MY MOTHER THROUGH MY WRITING
When I did book clubs for Trail of Broken Wings I would frequently get the same question: So your mother is your hero? Like in the story? I would pause, then hesitantly say Yes. The answer felt foreign to my ears. How could that be when I spent my entire childhood angry at her?
As in Trail of Broken Wings I am the youngest of three daughters. My father was our breadwinner. Unable to provide for three young children, my mother had to accept our situation and my father’s choices. I resented her helplessness. In contrast, my friends’ mothers were professional women who seemed stronger. Sure she could do more, I became angry.
When I started to write my mother’s voice in Trail of Broken Wings, I was shocked as the character I was creating wasn’t a composite of my mother but instead the real version. Strong, loving, kind and desperate to protect her children. What I had been unable to accept as a child I was starting to understand as an adult. She was as much a victim as my sisters and I. Yet, at every turn, she stood as strong as she could. She insisted we forge a different path in our lives. She believed and loved us unconditionally. But one story couldn’t take away the years of hurt and sense of betrayal I felt. I was sure I couldn’t have been that wrong.
My next book, Storyteller’s Secret came from the story of my grandmother who died tragically when my mother was two years old. Her family was destroyed as a result of my grandmother’s untimely death. She had a cruel stepmother who forced her to marry my father. As I wrote Lena’s (my mother’s) story, I found myself crying. I hated what was happening to her and the choices that determined her path. Angry at fact, I resorted to fiction. In the story, my mother’s husband loved her completely. Instead of being blamed by her fictional daughter she would be cherished and understood.
I stopped, bewildered. How could the writer in me empathize with my mother when I personally had not? Ashamed, I grasped for a reason but it’s difficult to explain the decisions of an adult when dictated by the beliefs of an inner child.
With new lenses I saw what I couldn’t before – that I love my children with the same fierceness and protectiveness that my mother loves me. Only at my mother’s insistence that I could be anyone do I have the freedom to express my love fully and easily. I am whole because my mother gave me everything she had. She showed me that love and belief in them are the greatest gifts I can give to my own children. I am stronger because of her strength.
It has taken two novels and a complicated journey for me to see my mother for who she really is – my hero.

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Brokk is set on revenge. Cale is out for revenge, also, but in a more deceitful way.
This conclusion to The Conquests of Brokk series should not be read as a stand alone.
I feel this review does not do justice to the author, since I did not read the first two of the trilogy. It is clear the author is a good writer with creativity, good grammatical skills and has plenty of action and conflicts. It was just too difficult to "connect" with the tale and retain interest. There were too many characters and too many events to "sort out"!
The characters were created with a vivid imagination.
The story contained a few underlying morals, addressing differences in races and cultures and, also, in pre-judging without insight, were among them.
Judging by the writing style and skills, I am certain, - I was given second opinion confirming my evaluation - if I had read the other two beforehand, my review would totally be presented differently.
As it stands, I can only offer a Three and a Half Stars rating.

Review by LAWonder10:
This is a very informative book! As a "history buff" I was not aware of this particular person in history.
Velvalee, was part Japanese and an American citizen. She collected dolls from all over the world and became very well known for buying and selling unique dolls from all over the world.
Just before World War 11, her business began decreasing, her husband became ill and medical bills were accumulating, so she became a spy for the Japanese.
A little of her history, associations, and the results of her activities are told in this well-written account.
Unfortunately, hers and a few others is what made life so bad on other Japanese citizens in the U.S.A. who were innocent yet put in despicable camps.
It is disheartening to discover the price she paid did not, in any way, reflect the crime not only to the country but to all her fellow Japanese citizens.
While building the foundation if the story, I found it slightly hard to "get into it" but that only lasted for e few pages.
I offer a Four and a Half Stars rating* This book was gifted to me in hope of receiving an honest and unbiased review. This is my honest review.
Guest Post: THE DOLL-COLLECTING SPY
I was doing research for another book I am writing when I came across a reference to the “doll woman” who was the first American woman to be sentenced to death for spying during World War II. Knowing very little about doll collecting and even less about spying, I was determined to learn more about what would drive a woman who must have loved dolls to turn traitor to her own country. My search proved to be informative and, as a writer, inspiring, yet also challenging and sad.
These were strange and confusing times in the years leading up to World War II and after. As the country absorbed the shock of the bombing at Pearl Harbor and tried to adjust to the new and difficult reality of rationing and travel restrictions while tearfully watching their loved ones depart for war zones in places unknown, the “Doll Woman,” Velvalee Dickinson, was sending out chatty, gossipy correspondence to her clientele and other doll enthusiasts. It was these letters that would eventually lead to her downfall.
Velvalee had such drive and determination to succeed and find financial security, but she made bad choices to reach her goals. What I feel was even more of a betrayal to the United States was that she never seemed to fully understand the severity of what she had done and, therefore, was unapologetic. In the end she paid the price only to disappear into anonymity.
