July 30th 2019 by Thomas Nelson
Natalie Groves once had big dreams. But soon after her fiancé, Jeremy Walters, inexplicably broke off their engagement and left town, her father was diagnosed with cancer. Now tasked with keeping her family afloat, Natalie’s grand plans have evaporated . . . and God feels very far away.
Fast-forward seven years, and Jeremy is back in Charlottesville with an infant son and years of regrets. When his niece, Lili, lands on his doorstep in need of a place to stay, Jeremy needs help—and fast.
An internship opening finally presents Natalie a chance at her dream job, but she needs a second income to work around it—and the only offer available is Jeremy’s. They could be the solutions to one another’s problems, provided they don’t kill each other in the process. When they join forces, sparks fly. But they both know there’s a thin line between love and hate . . . and that love will turn out to be the best decision—or the biggest mistake—of all.

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
This is a delightfully, entertaining novel addressing the topics of love, betrayal, facing problematic situations, forgiveness and other Christian ethics.
The story evolves from a dysfunctional, yet committed, familyand of a family subjected to much grief in life. The two families are intertwined and have been members of the same Church organization for years.
Additionally, it is a tale about the return of a son/boyfriend who left, suddenly, seven years ago, and now is back.
Each of the Cgaracters are easy to connect with, for the reader, and the reader is ure to feel like he/she knows each personally. The scenes are, also, very descriptively portrayed, enabling the reader to feel a part of each scenario.
The story flows smoothly from one scene to another and is very well-written.The Title is clever and the Cover is simple, yet effective. They are both a "good fit" for the story content. The only problem I had with this book, is the various scenarios felt, slightly, dragged out and repetitive in nature, at times.
This novel earns a Four and a Half Stars rating.

~ Praise for the Book ~
“A stunning debut . . . This tale of love and redemption will stay with you long after you've closed the book. A must-read.” —Rachel Hauck, New York Times bestselling author of The Wedding Dress
“Witty. Charming. Heartfelt. I could go on and on about Jessica Kate’s debut novel. From its highly relatable characters to its pitch-perfect dialogue, Love and Other Mistakes is a delightful, romantic read filled with just the right amount of sass. I lost count of the number of times I laughed out loud as I watched Natalie and Jem navigate their relationships, careers, and faith. Definitely one of the most enjoyable books I've read lately, and I can't wait to see what’s next from Jessica Kate!” —Melissa Tagg, Carol Award–winning author of Now and Then and Always and the Walker Family series
“Love and Other Mistakes wraps a poignant and warm look at relationships within a smart, sly, and knowing comedic voice. Readers of Sally Thorne and Bethany Turner will be immediately at home with Natalie: an all-too-real heroine who balances whip-smart agency with an endearing vulnerability and whose intersection with long-lost Jeremy helps her forge a path to confidence and discover the woman she was always meant to be. Kate’s unputdownable debut recognizes that all human relationships—familial, friendship, romantic—are worth the keen eye and clever insight of her talented pen.” —Rachel McMillan, author of the Van Buren and DeLuca Mysteries
“If you’re looking for a story with sass on top of style, or a fresh voice pumped full of fun, you need to read Love and Other Mistakes. Then after you’ve enjoyed this—and I’m confident you will—make a date with whatever this exciting new author writes next!” —David Rawlings, author of The Baggage Handler
QUESTION for the AUTHOR:
Q: When getting an idea for a book, do you start with a story idea/plot or the character(s) first?
A: I usually start with a premise. For Love and Other Mistakes, it was ‘two people are raising a child together but they’re not a couple’, which lead to the scenario of Natalie nannying her ex-fiance’s son. I’m addicted to love/hate stories, so generally the premise will revolve around some kind of situation that locks people who are in a major conflict into a situation where they have to work together. 😊 <3

Review by LAWonder10:
This was one of this author's most intriguing novels! Young Adults, and adults alike, will surely enjoy this great "Summer Read".
Sarah not only grieved for her father's death, as only heir to his fortune, she never dreamed how dangerous that would be. Now she must flee for her life and try to find answers. She fears she can trust almost no one.
This adventure captivates one's interest from the beginning until the end. The reader is kept guessing "Who did it" all the way trough the book.
The story addresses the issues of greed, superstition, entitlement, loyalty and romance.
The characters are developed well and they feel very real. The background scenes are described in a way the reader feels he/she is there.
I offer a Five Stars rating for this book.

The Redgrave Murders by A.L. Sowards
Published July 2019 by Covenant Communications | 272 pages
ISBN: 1524409456 (ISBN13: 9781524409456)
Loss is inevitable, as Evie Hampton knows all too well. But despite losing her mother to cancer and her older brother to a war, she knows she’s one of the lucky ones. After all, she still has her father, a distinguished professor of medieval history. And she has Gary Redhawk, the man she loves despite the emotional scars he carries from the Second World War—and despite her father’s opposition to their relationship.
When a freak accident sends Evie’s car careening off the road, she chalks it up to poor maintenance, or sheer bad luck making another appearance in her life. Little does she know a host of hardships is just beginning—the car was her father’s, and the brake lines were deliberately cut. Someone wants them dead—but why? All fingers point to Gary, a man with a troubled past and no solid alibi, but Evie is unwilling to believe he’s involved. Determined to uncover the truth, she begins to piece together a startling picture of deception and vice. But as she closes in on the truth, it is clear that someone is determined to silence her—and the next attempt on her life may be a deadly success.
REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Evie had suffered the loss of her mother and her brother, but luckily she had her father, an aunt, and two cousins remaining of her family.
Gary, had lived a rough life. After serving in the Army Special Forces and being a prisoner of war, he now experienced horrendous nightmares, adding to the nightmare of his past.
Gary was a half Native American. In this day and age, that shouldn't matter, but to Evie's prestigious family, it did. None of them felt Gary was good enough for her regardless of his sacrifices, plus, his perfect GPA in college. With his problems, Gary felt he was not good enough for Evie, but he still wanted her.
After a heated argument with her father, Evie stormed out the door, taking the only car readily available... Her dads.
She soon realized she had no brakes! Was this a fluke or was somebody trying to kill her dad... or her?
This was an amazing tale of unconditional love, betrayal, and suspense.
The story flows smoothly from one event to another , keeping the reader wondering, "Who done it"?
The characters and scenes were very vivid and easy to picture in one' mind.
The Book Cover was not very "eye-catching" but was a good fit. The Title was chosen well.
I offer a Strong Four Stars rating.

Reunited with the Cowboy (Heroes of Shelter Creek #1) by Claire McEwen
Published July 1st 2019 by Harlequin Heartwarming | 368 pages
She can save his ranch…
But can he forgive her?
Maya Burton knows she’s the last person rancher Caleb Dunne wants to see. After all, she survived the crash that killed his sister, and then left town. Now she has to convince the stubborn cowboy that she can help him save his ranch. But once she earns his trust—and his heart—will she be able to walk away?
BOOK REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Maya had fled as far away from home as she could after the cruel words from the man she had planned on spending the rest of her life with. Now, after many years, she was given an assignment to spend her summer there, leasing to a promotion and her dream job. This was good, right? It would give her a chance to visit her grandmother, who had determined she could no longer travel so far to visit her granddaughter.
After the tragic accident that took the life of his sister, causing him to drive away the "love of his life", Caleb witnessed the deterioration of his parents marriage. He abruptly joined the Army Special Forces. After serving in Afghanistan, he had gained a much different perspective of life. With the reoccurring nightmares and guilt, his life was a mess! He returned home to his families, once prosperous ranch, only to discover his father had let it fall to ruin, and had moved away. Now, Caleb would need a small miracle to save it. He pulled all his resources together to delay foreclosure, but if he didn't have a prosperous season, he would loose everything. The main problem was, he could not afford to hire help so the rebuilding and producing a substantial increase was all dependent on him, alone.
When Maya witnessed the deterioration of Caleb's ranch, through her guilt and strong feelings for Caleb, she wanted to use her education and knowledge to help, but how could she ever get him to accept it, when he made it clear he never wanted to see her again?
This is a, somewhat predictable drama, but very well-written, with a couple of interesting "twists". The reader is sure to "fall in love" with the characters. The background scenes are also portrayed in a way it is easy to visualize.
This is a great "Summer read"!
The title is well-chosen and the Cover pleasantly depicts the story.

Book Review by LAWonder10:
Emma was content in her life as a single mom until a nemesis from her past evolved.
Emma was a successful Parametric with the emergency services organization in Alaska. Dr. Scott was the one who ended their relationship and broke her heart eleven years ago. What were the chances he would show up, here in Alaska?
This is a fun tale of a man looking for the love he walked away from so many years ago, in hope he could somehow rekindle that love.
It was somewhat predictable, but with a couple of "twists" and was so well-written, it still earns a strong Four Stars rating.

The Enchanted Hour: The Miraculous Power of Reading Aloud in the Age of Distraction by Meghan Cox Gurdon
304 pages | Published January 15th 2019 by Harper
ISBN: 0062562835 (ISBN13: 9780062562838)
A Wall Street Journal writer’s conversation-changing look at how reading aloud makes adults and children smarter, happier, healthier, more successful and more closely attached, even as technology pulls in the other direction.
A miraculous alchemy occurs when one person reads to another, transforming the simple stuff of a book, a voice, and a bit of time into complex and powerful fuel for the heart, brain, and imagination. Grounded in the latest neuroscience and behavioral research, and drawing widely from literature, The Enchanted Hour explains the dazzling cognitive and social-emotional benefits that await children, whatever their class, nationality or family background. But it’s not just about bedtime stories for little kids: Reading aloud consoles, uplifts and invigorates at every age, deepening the intellectual lives and emotional well-being of teenagers and adults, too.
Meghan Cox Gurdon argues that this ancient practice is a fast-working antidote to the fractured attention spans, atomized families and unfulfilling ephemera of the tech era, helping to replenish what our devices are leaching away. For everyone, reading aloud engages the mind in complex narratives; for children, it’s an irreplaceable gift that builds vocabulary, fosters imagination, and kindles a lifelong appreciation of language, stories and pictures.
Bringing together the latest scientific research, practical tips, and reading recommendations, The Enchanted Hour will both charm and galvanize, inspiring readers to share this invaluable, life-altering tradition with the people they love most.
