Extract 1-
She lay in bed at night, listening in to the darkness for Davie coming back. His unique key jangle. The double shuffle of his feet wiping on the mat outside as he opened the door. That odd fake cough as he hung his jacket on the hook. The feeling was familiar. Staining her ears at the quietest time, holding her breath for a sign. Only now it was a different person she was waiting for. She felt small in her bed again. But this time she wouldn’t be left alone. Just a few more days till she was out of here, and back with him. This was just a pause, not an eject. She wanted to dream, close her eyes, and be somewhere else. She concentrated on slowing her breath, slower, longer. The edges began softening, the lines between face and pillow, organs, and the universe. Atoms spreading, merging, changing, drifting, then falling, faster, too fast. Then drop. Hard and sharp. Hitting the bed and back within the boundary of her solidity and goose-bumped skin. Still here. Listening into the night. ![]()

Excerpt #1 “Don’t I know you, kid?” Will nearly rolled his eyes over the grizzled Uber driver’s question, but he didn’t want to look like the kid he’d just been called. He was twenty-two, for Christ’s sake. He wasn’t a damn kid. “I play ball,” he replied. “Hot damn,” the driver declared, jerking the wheel so much in his excitement that Will braced himself. “You’re Will Campbell! I’ve got Will Campbell in my car!” “Yep.” The driver turned to look at him over his shoulder. “You look a little different without your ball cap on. I’m a huge fan. You’re one of the most promising young pitchers I’ve seen in years. I don’t know how you pulled out that win against New York to end the season. Shame it didn’t get us into the playoffs.” The car crept toward the double yellow lines on the road. Will tightened his grip on the chicken stick. “Uh, yeah. Listen—” “I always wondered what you guys did in the off season. Do you live here in Denver then?” Will’s eyes were glued to the road. The car’s tires thudded as they hit the reflectors lining the center of the road, finally prompting the driver to glance back out the windshield and yank the wheel the other way. “Yep,” Will choked out. He didn’t mention that they were on the way to his neighborhood now. The driver seemed like the kind of guy who would drop by unexpectedly if he knew that. “It’s been a bitterly cold fall,” the driver commented, his eyes now mostly on the road. “But it’s nearly winter now, isn’t it? Just another week or so to go.” Will was relieved when the driver slid back into his standard “kill the time” banter and stopped bouncing in his seat over the fact that Will played professional baseball. His stomach reeled from the driver’s erratic swerving, and it was being urged along by the overwhelming scent of lemon and cheeseburgers floating through the car’s heating system. Those tequila shots he’d done on top of the whiskey were starting to feel like a terrible idea. Fortunately, it didn’t take much longer to get to their destination. He had given the driver an address a few blocks from his house. It was a safety measure his father had suggested years ago when Will first started living on his own. There had been several times when the advice had saved his ass, especially once he became more well known. They pulled up to the curb in front of the dark dwelling belonging to the incorrect address. “Nice neighborhood,” the driver observed as he entered their arrival into his app. Will finished entering a tip amount in the app on his own phone, knowing he’d likely forget otherwise. “Yeah, it’s quiet,” he said as he reached for his door handle. “Thanks for the ride.” “Hey, wait. Can I get your autograph?” Although Will wanted nothing more than to exit the car into the crisp December air, he obliged the driver by signing a couple of greasy napkins that looked as though they were the source of the cheeseburger smell. He signed one for the driver and one, he was told, for the driver’s son, then made his escape. As soon as the car pulled away and turned out of sight, Will walked along the silent suburban streets to his house. His head throbbed dully with every step he took, telling him he was sobering up. A frigid wind had him picking up the pace and burying his hands in the pockets of his Berluti suede bomber jacket. He sure as hell wouldn’t miss the Denver winters, he mused as he finally headed up the path to his front door and fished his keys out of his pocket. He struggled with finding the right key on his heavily shadowed front porch. The cold night air quickly numbed his fingers. He dropped the keys with a jarring clang. Cursing, he shifted and bent to look for them, swaying a little as the alcohol rushed to his head. He fought to correct his balance. His foot connected with the keys, sending them skittering under one of the two porch chairs. He cursed again, more loudly this time, and lowered himself into a squat to retrieve them. He couldn’t see a damn thing under the chair. Having an a-ha moment, he pulled out his phone and triggered the flashlight. He turned the resulting beam toward the chair and caught the glint of light off metal. Then the shadows in the second chair moved. He jerked and aimed the phone toward the second chair. His racing heart calmed as fear eased into confusion. There was a small, shivering lump sitting in the chair…a lump with two long braids and wide, glistening eyes staring right at him. A little girl. Why the hell was there a little girl on his front porch? ![]()

From the Lake House: A Mother’s Odyssey of Loss and Love by Kristen Rademacher
Publisher: She Writes Press (July 21, 2020) Category: Memoir, Grief, Motherhood Tour Dates August and September, 2020 ISBN: 978-1631528668 Available in Print and ebook,237 pages Book Description: Dizzy with grief after a shattering breakup, Kristen did what any sensible thirty-nine-year-old woman would do: she fled, abandoning her well-ordered life in metropolitan Boston and impulsively relocating to a college town in North Carolina to start anew with a freshly divorced southerner. Dismissing the neon signs that flashed Rebound Relationship, Kristen was charmed by the host of contrasts with her new beau. He loved hunting and country music, she loved yoga and NPR; he worried about nothing, she worried about everything. The luster of her new romance and small-town lifestyle soon―and predictably―faded, but by then a pregnancy test stick had lit up. As Kristen’s belly grew, so did her concern about the bond with her partner―and so did a fierce love for her unborn child. Ready or not, she was about to become a mother. And then, tragedy struck. Poignant and insightful, From the Lake House explores the echoes of rash decisions and ill-fated relationships, the barren and disorienting days an aching mother faces without her baby, and the mysterious healing that can take root while rebuilding a life gutted from loss. REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Brokenhearted and needing an escape, Kristen left a comfortable, well-paying job in Boston to co-habit with a man she had met a few months earlier and had became enamored with. Had she made a mistake? Kristen was thirty-nine and wanted a child but with a man she could partner with in raising the child. The relationship had its "ups and downs" but then she found she was pregnant... Kristen's story is one many will relate to and others will emphasize with. It is a very "touching" story of a woman in a relationship not going anywhere, so finally had realized the finality to it. She was near the end of her child-bearing years, so time was of the essence. When Kristen conceived, her life was not as she expected. The ensuing months changed her whole life. This is a memoir which stimulates various emotions within ones being.. It keeps one mesmerized the whole way through the book. This seems so real! The characters and scenes both are portrayed well. the Cover Image and the Title are attractive and are well-chosen. *Reader Beware: there are a few words of profanity. I offer a Four and a Half Stars rating I was gifted this book with no pressure for a positive review. This is my honest review.
“Over the course of this book, in well-structured, descriptive prose, Rademacher effectively leads readers through a gradually withering romantic relationship that culminates in a tragedy . . . Some of the most painful sections of the book are her loving letters to the little girl whom she held for but an hour, and whom she named Carly. It soon becomes clear that these missives helped to lead her back from a precipice of despair, so that she could finally face her future. A poignant and painful remembrance with comforting messages for the grieving.”-Kirkus Reviews
“Kristen Rademacher’s achingly honest memoir about her losses of place, partner, and much-anticipated baby daughter Carly resonates with courage and an abiding gratitude for the preciousness of life. A truly tender reflection about loss that illuminates the devastating experience of baby loss.”-Janel Atlas, writer and editor of They Were Still Born: Personal Stories about Stillbirth “From the Lake House is an intimate, inspiring story of surviving in a world where blessings and tragedy walk hand in hand. Written with tender honesty and luscious language, it is a joy to read, even amidst the pangs of heartache and loss. As a bereaved mother, I found myself nodding in agreement with so many of Rademacher’s experiences of life after the death of a child . . . This book is for memoir-lovers and anyone who finds themselves in a turbulent relationship or who has said goodbye to a dearly loved child . . . Rademacher champions solitude for its healing capacities and the wholeness birthed from dogged, hard-earned resiliency. Perceptive and endearing, it is a moving saga of motherhood.”-Alexis Marie Chute, award-winning author of Expecting Sunshine: A Journey of Grief, Healing, and Pregnancy After Loss “In this beautifully written and poignant memoir, we learn that though people and dreams die, relationships don’t. If we’re attuned, the dead can transform our lives, offering enduring love and guidance―and hope.”-Carol Henderson, author of Losing Malcolm: A Mother’s Journey Through Loss and Farther Along: The Writing Journey of Thirteen Bereaved Mothers ![]()

What good is a home without a family? School principal Eric Wells finally has the house he’s always wanted, but a painful childhood makes hi m question his ability to be a father. REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Principal Eric Wells returned to the place he grew up in, then had to leave. Now he was back to the town he loved, the "fixer-upper" home he'd always wanted, and was performing in his "dream job". The only thing he felt was missing was the girl he'd always loved but neverbhad a chance with. Amy Morgan and her precious daughter, Cassie, moved back to live, once again, with Amy's grandparents who raised her. She had neglected to be for them a she should have because she was trying desperately to save her failed marriage. She had loved Scott Morgan from her early youth. She was delighted when in High School he noticed her and they became an "item". To her grandparents dismay, she married him right out of High School and moved to Chicago... Had she truly loved him, or was it the image and idea of him? Whatever, he was definitely self-centered and not "cut out" to be a Dad. He made false promises and was seldom around. Now, months after her divorce, she was where she needed to be. Her grandparents needed help and she needed someone to help with Cassie, while she was at her part time job. Cassie often "acted out", causing problems because of her instability with her parents relationship. Therefore, it was no surprise when shortly admitting her daughter to the new school, she was notified she needed to meet with the principle concerning her daughter's rebelliousness. Eric and Amy had worked together on the school paper and were friends. They had both changed. However, Amy was quite impressed with the way he confronted issues with his students. The more she became acquainted with him, the more she was impressed. This is a familiar scenario of life in a small town. Many of the youth are anxious to leave, yet often, it is the place they return to. Also, it suggested how often views of youth change and what really matters becomes much more clear. This is a wonderful small town story with typical small town dilemmas. It is a relaxing drama with a few "twists". The characters feel very real and the scenes easily visualized. It just slightly lacks depth for a Five Stars rating from me so I offer a Four Stars rating. *This book was gifted me with no pressure for a positive review. This is my honest review.

What a fun story. I liked the mystery of Arcadia. I enjoyed learning the differences between the Earth and Arcadia. The characters are all well-developed and it is easy to feel their emotions. Julian and Quinn have a great connection and one of my favorite characters is Delcie. They couldn't have survived without her. The story flows well from chapter to chapter and is easy to follow along. The cover of the book is awesome and it along with the title are a great fit for the story. Launch - Author Interview: What do you hope readers will take with them after they’ve read it? First, I hope readers will find a sweet romance at the center of the story. I enjoy writing about two people who don’t want to fall in love but who fall in love anyway. Second and most important, I pray that readers will take one step closer to God because of something they find in How Sweet It Is. All-of-kind Mom - Review "Another story about some broken people finding their way. A story about trusting, forgiveness, and love. . . . Robin Lee Hatcher writes sweet romances that show us God’s love. This book is an excellent [example] of this." Simply Susan - Review "Robin Lee Hatcher’s books have always been an automatic read for me. Her Legacy of Faith series has certainly been very heartwarming and poignant, this book pouring many blessings into my heart. . . . So many precious nuggets were found in this book. Highly recommended." Red Headed Book Lady - Review "When you pick up a Robin Lee Hatcher book you know it's going to be good! . . . Hatcher has done a nice job in tying the past with the present together once again. . . . I highly recommend this book because you'll not want to put it down until you finish. This book will leave you feeling full and satisfied after a good read. Kind of like a wonderful dessert." Hearts & Scribbles - Excerpt “Thanks. You too. How are the wedding plans?” “That’s why I’m here. Holly and I were going over wedding-cake ideas and looking at all the bride magazines I could find.” Jed took a half step back. “Sounds like I’m intruding after all.” “No, you’re not. We’re done. I was about to head home.” Trixie tipped her head slightly to one side. Jed had the sudden feeling that he was being measured, studied, put under a microscope. Not a comfortable sensation. Britt Reads Fiction - Review "This novel was a nice way to round out the Legacy of Faith series. I believe that it can be read and understood without reading the first two books in the series. However, I feel that I had a greater appreciation for the historical portion of the novel because I have read the entire series. I thought that Jed and Holly’s relationship growth throughout the story felt realistic." ReviewsByErin - Review "There was a beautiful layer of faith presented, and hope for those facing family conflicts. I can imagine a lot of people will enjoy this as a light read. I would highly recommend reading the whole series to get the full impact of Andrew's story." fierymermaidbooks - Review "I loved this book! It made me want to bake a million things! . . . The family aspect was also super interesting! If you are looking for a great contemporary, then I suggest this one!" Ponderings from the Inglenook - Review "The story is one of healing and love and family and belonging. You go on the journey with Holly and Jed, two people who are dealing with their own set of struggles of trust, hurt and wanting something more. Along with their story, is the story of Jed's grandfather, Andrew. Popping back and forth from present day to Grandpa Andrew's day, the story of family and legacy is told. It was a heartwarming story that slowly took you from one place to the next with each chapter." Christy's Cozy Corners - Review "How Sweet It Is is just as sweet as its title suggests! It’s a clean, inspirational romance that will challenge you to trust that God has your future in His hands. . . . The characters and the love that develops between them are very believable. But I think that the best part of the book is watching God’s plan unfold. . . . I have always loved Robin Lee Hatcher’s books, and How Sweet It Is is no exception." reviewingbooksplusmore - Review "How Sweet It Is was a book that had me hooked from the very first word. I love reading books that connect with two time periods. I loved Andrew and Helen’s story that was set in 1969 to 1970. They had such a fantastic love story. . . . The characters were so real to me. I could visualize what they were doing." Daysong Reflections - Review "As can be expected, How Sweet It Is uses Andrew’s bible to once again bring a family member back to their walk of faith. . . . It was encouraging to read about how seeming coincidences actually became evident as the obvious leading of the Lord. A sweet romance, How Sweet It Is was easy to read and enjoyable. Although filled with scripture references, the faith element was not intrusive and did not detract from the story." Two Points of Interest - Spotlight Pause for Tales - Review "There was many beautiful lessons and truths in this story that pulled at my heartstrings. I enjoyed watching each of the people grow into better versions of themselves as they took away lessons from their ancestor Andrew Henning. This was a beautiful story of family and their legacy of faith and what that can mean for generations." Splashes of Joy - Review "I have read many of Robin Lee Hatcher’s books and love them all, and was excited to read and review this one. There is so much in this story, twists and turns that surprise you, making it a wonderful and entertaining read. If you enjoy a good clean Christian fiction, you don’t want to miss How Sweet It Is. Because Jed and Holly’s story truly is a really sweet story." Rockin' Book Reviews - Review "This is a really nice love story, within a love story. . . . The characters were all portrayed well and very endearing. Although this [drama] was very predictable, it was very well written and inspiring." Read Review Rejoice - Excerpt “Holly, you may be older than me, but you don’t know much about men. Have you noticed the way he looks at you?” It frightened her, thinking Trixie might be right. It frightened her even more, thinking she wanted her sister to be right. “Don’t.” “Don’t what?” “Don’t read too much into it. I . . . I’m not ready.” Adventurous Bookworm - Review "I was elated when I found that I'd get to read the third book of this series. I had read book two at its release last year and was eagerly waiting to read this one. I am happy to say that it lived up to my expectations. . . . All in all, I enjoyed this last book and it was definitely the uplifting read that I had been craving." Locks, Hooks and Books - Review "I loved this sweet and delightful read. I adored Jed and Holly. They had perfect chemistry, making the book fun and entertaining. There was a little twist and turn I did not expect which made the story quite unpredictable. . . . I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean and inspiring romance." Labor Not in Vain - Review "I loved returning to the Hennings family as this book continues to follow Andrew and Helen decades previous, while also catching up with their descendants in the present. The dual timelines are well written and compliment each other well. I loved the themes of faith and commitment, as Jed takes time to consider things he hasn't had time for the in the past. A heartwarming and enjoyable read about family, faith, new opportunities and lasting love." Loraine D Nunley, Author - Review "This was a sweet romance. I liked the chemistry between Holly and Jed. . . . I would recommend this as a quick clean inspirational romance. This is the third book in the series. It reads well as a stand alone." Uplifting Reads - Excerpt His smile made a shiver run down her spine. A pleasurable kind of shiver. One of anticipation. Something flickered in his eyes. Understanding, perhaps. With it, his smile faded. His eyes seemed to darken as he gazed intently into hers. His right hand rose to cup her cheek, the flat of his hand gentle against her skin. She couldn’t help but press into it. She was tempted to close her eyes, but she didn’t want to break the look passing between them. His face drew closer. Was this happening? “Holly.” He whispered her name, as soft as a caress. She feared her knees would buckle. Breathe, she reminded herself. Just breathe. Hallie Reads - Review "How Sweet It Is is a sweet story from Robin Lee Hatcher indeed . . . As romance and understanding grow, the present timeline complements Andrew’s one in the past to deliver a valuable message about trusting God through the good and the bad. Readers who have enjoyed the Legacy of Faith thus far are sure to enjoy this book; it is a satisfying conclusion." Remembrancy - Review "How Sweet It Is has some light-hearted moments that made me smile and some tougher moments that had me reaching for the tissues. Throughout the book, the message of the power, importance, and comfort of spending time digging into God’s word and building a strong relationship with Him rings through. This is an excellent end to the series, and like the author, I am sad to say goodbye to Andrew and his descendants." Jorie Loves A Story - Review "I love authors who can hook us into the emotional framework of a character immediately after we've started to read their story. With Hatcher, you don't have to wait long, as even within the Prologue of How Sweet It Is - you are rooted into the emotional heartache and anguish of Jed. . . . What I enjoyed the most though - is seeing how two ordinary people who weren't expecting anything extraordinary to happen to them suddenly find themselves in the middle of their own romance story! And that dear hearts, is why I kept turning the pages. . ." Among the Reads - Review "Lovers of more serious stories with the light of faith shining through will want to be sure to read How Sweet It Is. And while it easily stands alone, it builds on the events of the previous books of the Legacy of Faith series, so you’ll want to be sure to read them as well." Tell Tale Book Reviews - Review "As with the previous books in the Legacy Of Faith series Robin Lee Hatcher presents a sweet romance combined with the reality of the messiness of family. . . . As much as I enjoyed the romance between Holly and Jed . . . it was still the sections with Andrew that I most looked forward to. Across three books he's gone through tragedy and triumph from young manhood to retirement age. He has faced each struggle with love and a faith that is to be admired. . . . It was just as wonderful, and bittersweet, as its predecessors. It is very much a book that you shouldn't miss." Beauty in the Binding - Excerpt Inside, Pumpkin welcomed her home with a loud meow. After setting aside her purse, Holly picked up the cat and buried her face in the feline’s long hair. “Sweetheart, what am I going to do?” Pumpkin answered with a purr. “You never lie to me, do you? You’re just who you say you are.” She carried the cat with her into the living room, stopping long enough to turn on the lamp before settling onto the sofa. “I’m at the end. I don’t know what to do. God, I need Your help. There’s no hope without You.” Reading Excursions - Review This is the first book I’ve read by author Robin Lee Hatcher. And, it is a wonderful, sweet, darling, inspirational, and beautifully written story for the most part. The short chapters make it an extremely quick read. . . The biggest message I loved from this book was in practicing grace when dealing with family and friends when it comes to conflicts and reconciliation. Readers of the previous books in the series as well as fans of the author will more than likely enjoy this story." I'm Into Books - Spotlight Peaceful Pastime - Review "How Sweet It Is the third book in the Legacy of Faith Series by Ms. Hatcher and I will say that it truly is a sweet, endearing novel. I absolutely adore a dual timeline and the author certainly had me engaged in the family saga from start to finish. . . . I thought this book was beautifully crafted with charming characters and one that will make you cry at times and one that will stay with you after you have finished reading it." REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Although 'The Takeaway Men' is fiction, much of the events and circumstances are factual. This is a story of a Jew and A Gentile and the horrific nightmare of circumstances they endured in Poland during World War ll and in the aftermath. Needing to escape the memories and ongoing hostilities, they were able to Immigrate to America. There the Jewish man, Aron, had a cousin who took them in and gave them a home, a job, and a new family. Just before beginning their new life, the Gentile, Edyta, gave birth - a month early - to twin girls. Before arriving in America, Edyta and the girls needed to change their names to Jewish/American names. While living at their new residence in America, the Twins grow and develop friendships with both Jewish and Gentile Friends, but were raised strictly Jewish by their parents. The story, also, relates experiences of some of the newfound friends and neighbors. As with all things in life, the story tells of various degrees of strictness in living one's religious beliefs, of various degrees of prejudice, and of various degrees of self one chooses to allow others to see. I found it "true to form" how different each individual responds to situations and others, even within a family unit. It is harrowing, to me, how inhumane and cruel individuals can be to others simply because of differences in beliefs, race, religion, social class, skin color and other physical differences... Still, at the same time, claim to be Christian, God-like, or just a "decent" human being, while their actions shout-out otherwise! It is important to be reminded of the past, in hope of preventing a repeated perspicacity. Love, Peace, Acceptance and Freedom from Unjust Condemnation needs to become a priority before true happiness can be achieved. Th book was very interesting and well-written. it did lack a bit of clarity n a few places as to who was talking, and the ending needed to be slightly stronger. I offer Four Stars rating for this story. *This was gifted me with no pressure for a positive review. This is my honest review.
WRITING FICTION
I’ve been writing since I was in elementary school. I worked for a weekly newspaper when my children were young and I wrote everything from breaking news to a cooking column. Later, I wrote monthly columns about parenting. I’ve blogged for Huffington Post and other outlets and I’ve had opinion pieces published in various newspapers. I also wrote two non-fiction books, The Living Memories Project: Legacies That Last in 2014 and its companion workbook, My Living Memories Project Journal in 2016. These were about keeping the memories of loved ones alive after they had passed away. I wrote those books to heal myself after losing both my parents in a short time, and I wanted to help others overcome their losses. So, when people heard I was having a new book published, everyone was surprised to learn that my debut novel, The Takeaway Men, was historical fiction. Why did I switch after so many years of saying what I wanted to say through non-fiction? Isn’t non-fiction the most straightforward way to get your point across? My novel is about what happened to the survivors of the Holocaust when they tried to start new lives in America after World War II. It’s about the impact their trauma had on their children. It’s about how we treat immigrants and those who are different. It’s about religious identity and whether we inherit it or choose it. It’s about faith and hope and the question of how some people keep their faith while undergoing terrible tragedy. It’s about parenting and when is it okay for parents to protect their children by lying to them? It’s about what our responsibility is to one another when other human beings are being hurt, persecuted or bullied. It’s about the importance of family. So, why did I think historical fiction was a better way to raise these issues than a non-fiction book? In fiction, the author can draw colorful characters, ones who are flawed, but human. Their thoughts, words and actions, tell the story. And it can be read on many levels. Some readers will just enjoy the story. While others will actually ask and see more than even the author intended. While there are many Holocaust novels on the market – including many bestsellers – few write about the time after – the post-Holocaust era. What happened to the survivors? How did they fare once they came to the United States? What, if any impact, did their trauma and suffering have on their children? Did they speak about it or remain mum? Did survivors have guilt? How were rescuers treated? What happened to former Nazis who hid in America in the 1950’s? There are many different answers to these questions. And there are no simple ones. It is a complicated story. I wrote a novel because I thought this subject was much better suited to an open-ended genre, where the reader could see the issues through the characters, ask her own questions, and form her own conclusions. ![]()

I love this story. It has situations good and bad that we all have to deal with in this life. I love the Inn and their little town on the cape. The friendly people there are the type of friends most of us want to have in our lives. The decisions Jonathan makes are one of the things that makes this story a hit. ONE AMAZON $25. Gift Card! Enter below! GIVEAWAY! Spotlight Tour Dates: July 27-31, 2020 ![]() Salt Lake City – Filmmakers Tshoper Kabambi and Brandon Ray Olive, in collaboration with Deseret Book and Excel Entertainment announced today their award-winning, groundbreaking film HEART OF AFRICA will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on Friday, July 17. The DVD & Blu-ray will be available at all Deseret Book locations, online and at additional retailers throughout the United States. HEART OF AFRICA had its theatrical debut earlier this year, but its run in theatres was cut short due to COVID-19-related theatre closures. HEART OF AFRICA tells the incredible story of Gabriel Ngandu, a young Congolese revolutionary trying to escape the terrible mistakes of his past. His journey leads him to completely new experiences and even a new religion – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – but leaves him torn between the influences of two completely different father figures – Mwabila; his revolutionary leader, and President Kabasubabu; his new religious leader. Called as a missionary by his new church, Ngandu is sent back to his home village to help build an orphanage with his mission companion from Idaho, Jason Martin, who also has a tragic, secret past. “HEART OF AFRICA is such an important film from a Black filmmaker who has dedicated almost everything to create and present it,” said Arthur VanWagenen, product director for Excel Entertainment and Deseret Book. “Kabambi’s devotion to share this story can’t be overstated. In a true example of life imitating art, the film’s message of overcoming adversity by placing our lives in the Lord’s hands is now happening in real life for Tshoper. He came to the United States for the film’s release, and because of the pandemic, Tshoper has been unable to return to his family in the Congo.” HEART OF AFRICA is the first ever Congolese-American production of a feature film and was written by Tshoper Kabambi and Margaret Blair Young. The film was produced by Bruce Young, Margaret Blair Young, Tshoper Kabambi, Ephraim Faith Byikana, and Deborah Basa. Sponsors include Bimpa Production, Congo Rising Corporation, and Heart of Africa LLC. Proceeds from the film will generate funds for humanitarian work and aid in the Congo, primarily in health and innovative education to assist the people of the Congo in becoming more self-reliant. In addition, proceeds will be used to help revitalize the film and cinema industry in the Congo. For more information on HEART OF AFRICA, visit heartofafricafilm.com. Link to Purchase: Amazon | Deseret Book | REVIEW by LAWonder10: Heart of Africa is based on a true story of a prominent young African man's sudden loss, escape, then search for who he really is. He seeks food and shelter but comes to accept much more. This is a drama portraying some of the emotions, attitudes and events which occurred, leading him to his true self-discovery. Heart of Africa is an authentic African story portrayed using the actual language of the tribes.. There is some English in the second half of the movie but the bulk of the story has captions in English translation. The story is very interesting as a whole, but there are slots of time sometimes missing before the next scene I was slightly confusing and felt incomplete. Another slight issue I had - which could be easily corrected - is the amount of time allowed t read some of the translation. I am not a really fast reader, neither am I a slow reader. the were several times I couldn't read the caption before the next scene was on screen. It is hard for me to truly appreciate a film if I have to concentrate on reading the captions, therefore missing viewing most of the scenes. Still, the story was very interesting and uplifting, the pictures of the country and culture were beautiful and a "wake up call" to those of us who live in a more affluent country with modern conveniences. I offer a Three and a Half Stars rating. *This video link was gifted me with no pressure for giving a positive review. This is my honest review. The hard things in his life and the life of his companion, Jason Martin, were the things they needed to work through. It is a wonderful story. I recommend everyone see it.
