Guest Post: Lonna Enox The Last Dance - Writing and Reading
As my books are sequels, I took a line about my main character (Sorrel Janes) that had made her curious in the first book, The Last Dance, and developed it into this second of the series. The books can be read in any order, so this point had been almost insignificant in the first book and became important in this one. I also had buried my mother and gone through family "stories". Sorrel had made big changes in her life also, and I explored how we deal with and adapt to life as it changes. I do not include religion or politics in my books. However, I do not include graphic sexual content or profanity in my books as I find it unnecessary for my plot or characters. (And my two grandchildren read my books.) Religion and politics are not only personal, but also changing in our lives. I suspect they influence us more than we think, but I also hope we can keep our stories and plots focused on how the characters deal with the life they've either chosen or "stumbled into". I am most proud of Blood Relations, which received the top award from Chanticleer Book Reviews, although I am proud ot all three. I have always been a voracious reader, starting with Nancy Drew. I love Shakespeare and the American romance novelists. But the books I tend to read for "fun" are suspense. I'm sad that Sue Grafton is nearing the end of the alphabet! I love Robert Dugoni and both of the Kellermans, to name a few. The readers who love my books inspire me to write more. My family inspire me to do what I love and I am humbled by their pride in my work. If I was only able to have 3 books, I’d want a book of Shakespearean plays, the Bible, and a collection of Emily Dickinson poems.
