GUEST POST:
MISSION TO PUT ITALY’S MODERN CULTURE IN THE SPOTLIGHT by Lorenzo Petruzziello – author of The Love Fool Growing up as an Italian-American, I was raised speaking both languages and exposed to both cultures. But it wasn’t until I began to spend time in Italy that I realized the culture Italian-Americans held onto was not up to date with the living thriving culture that I found in Italy. Yes, Italy definitely has the beautiful rolling hills of Tuscany as we read about or see on television and films. And of course it is definitely an incredible sight to be seen. But as travelers, if we take the time to stop and look even further, we would actually see the people of Italy and their everyday modern life. We would see them in the morning standing at the bar having a quick espresso (none of them ever sit down for a coffee) and they rush off to work. We see them at lunch, sitting down for a quick and healthy meal before returning to work for the day. We see them after work, meeting at the local bar cafes again for an aperitivo before making their way out to dinner or back at home to dinner. I felt in many stories set in Italy, the focus is on the beauty of the old life – which is definitely beautiful and glamourous – but often overlooked is the other beauty of Italian culture: the cocktails, the modern foods, the people, and just the Italian way of life. In The Love Fool, I was adamant on capturing this modern Italian way of life. A society that we, as tourists and guests in their country, should notice and participate to really encompass what it is to be Italian today, About the Author: Lorenzo Petruzziello holds an MBA in global marketing from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. His background includes publicity and marketing for many of public television’s popular cooking and travel shows. He lives in Massachusetts focusing on his writing. THE LOVE FOOL is his first novel.
