REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Mackenzie had made a secret pact with four friends she became acquainted with at girls camp whie they were young teens. They each had to marry a Billionaire or the girl would have to sing the camp song at her wedding. They had kept in contact over the years. Ironically, acouple of the girls had married a billionaire.
MacKenzie was iving in Chicago when one evening she had witnessed a torture and killing by a Mob boss and his men. She called 911 and reported it. She was put in th Witness Protction Plan. Soonafter, she again witnessed another murder... one of two FBI agents protecting her gunned down his own partner when the Mob Boss came after them. Before he was shot, the agent yelled at her to "Run Fast'. MacKenzie was into running and in shape so was able to outrun the Mob until she could safely hide.
Not knowing who to trust, and without putting loved ones in danger, she called her "camp friend", who was soon to marry her billionaire boyfriend, and asked if she couls come early. As it worked out, her friend, small son and boyfriend were going to be out of town and she could use MacKenzie's help with the store she owned. That gave MacKenzie a chance to earn money while she was "in hiding". MacKenzie was about the same size as her friend so while living in her home while woring, she also borrowed a few of her friends clothes since sh had fled with alnmost nothing and didn't dsre try to reach anyone nor access her funds for ear of being discovered.
Her friend's brother ( her "old crush") was in charge of the store until his sister got back. SHile she was on lunch break one day, a situation arose of which "the brother" took matters in his own hands. It caused a lot of "ripples". WHo could MacKenzie trust, and how was she to handle the new ptroblems. She had no ID and needed to stay out of trouble and not draw attetion to herself. The action explodes from this point on in the fast-paced novel b Cami Checketts, an amazing romance/suspense writer.
The characters and scenarios seem so real, it is hard to renmember this is fiction.
Just when the reader thinks the book is coming to an end, more twists are thrown in. The rader's attenionn is captivted.
I read the book a few years ago, but recently downloaded the audio. i enjoyed t just as much as I originally did. The Narrator Amy McFadden sid an awesme job narrating the story with energy and great command of the "voices". It was very easy to follow who the various "voices" belonged to. Her energy aided in captivating the listener. She never faltered once.
I offer a FIve Stars rating for this book content and for the narrator.
I was gifted this book originally, and read it, with no pressure for a positive review. I failed to review. I downloaded the audio book recently. This is now my honest review.
