Vic Prince is a wise cracking detective, plying his trade in 1940’s war torn Liverpool. Unable to enlist because of flat feet and asthma, Prince has an affinity with the City because his great grandfather was brought to the Mersey shores, on the last ever Slave Ship to dock, back in 1807.
Prince has to wrestle with prejudice, the ostracising of his girlfriend and her Chinese father, his conscience when his best friend controls the City’s black market and a detective sergeant who hates his guts.
The City is alive with foreign factions because of the geographical proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and its strategic importance. There is also worry the Nazis are planning a land invasion and add to that, a constant bombing of Liverpool’s dockland.
Book blurb; Vic is engaged by Henry Swan, Hollywood’s biggest black film star; who is in Liverpool to promote his latest movie. Swan has a rather delicate problem and needs all of Vic’s unique skills to track down blackmailers, who are hoping to extort three pieces of the ‘Nine Lives’ from him. If that isn’t difficult enough, a mysterious female killer is on the trail of the three pieces and is aided and abetted by a hard man from the North East, who makes Everton Cosgrove look like a choir boy. In a rip roaring finale, Prince risks his own life to help Swan and keep the curios out of enemy hands.
Mackenzie Brown was born and raised in Liverpool, UK, where he lives with his wife, two daughters and pet cat. Having seven published novels already under his belt, Brown is currently working on the third installment of the Prince of The City series. Mackenzie Brown's inspiration for writing was borne out of wartime stories shared with him by his grandfather and personal hero, Angus Mackenzie Brown, a character featured in the novel 'Annie's War'.

About the Author:
When I was seven, I read a book called Momotaro. Amazed words could create other worlds, I then devoured Roald Dahl’s children’s and adult stories – scaring myself in the process – and learned more about him. I thought, ‘Yes. That's what I want to do: write children’s books and weird adult stories in a shed at the end of the garden.’ Except we didn’t have a garden, I thought I had no imagination, and believed I came from the wrong background. Avoiding stories until well into adulthood, I wrote copious poems and a song called 'Momotaro', which had no relevance to the book, and was as basic as you can imagine from a child who decided she had no imagination.
Though much of my writing is fiction, it is influenced by life experiences, together with the wisdom – and lack of it – that has guided me through both hardships and joys. I find writing painful, difficult, joyous and necessary. To not write – I have discovered to my detriment – is to feel my soul shrivel. I also love to read, dance, play instruments, create art in many forms, and find peace in nature. I live with my husband, Lee.
