Percivious Insomnia -- the debut novel from Calgary-based husband-and-wife author duo JJ & AJ Cook, M.D., set for release on August 4, 2020 with FriesenPress -- insomnia isn’t just an unfortunate side effect; it is the pandemic sweeping the globe, leaving people unable to function and society on the brink of collapse.

Percivious Insomnia (Percivious Trilogy #1)
By JJ Cook & AJ Cook, MD

In a year as surreal and stressful as 2020 has been, it’s little wonder that people around the world are experiencing more sleepless nights than ever before; in fact, “sleep is emerging as the latest casualty of the COVID-19 crisis” according to a recent forum hosted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where experts called the current situation a “perfect storm of sleep problems” and noted the “severe” implications of chronic insomnia.
In
As an unlikely collection of scientists and citizens come together in a race against the clock to find a cure, disturbing revelations about the underlying cause of the insomnia epidemic come to light that could completely unravel civilization as we know it… and throw into question humanity’s place in the universe.
The first book in the “Percivious” trilogy, Percivious Insomnia is a gripping work of contemporary fiction centered on an ominous and otherworldly mystery, and a story which brings together two unique perspectives to create a realistic medical thriller with an imaginative sci-fi twist.
Drawing on AJ’s direct experience as a medical doctor and pediatric surgeon and JJ’s background across a range of industries, giving insight and depth to characters spanning an array of disciplines, ages, countries, and cultures, the “Percivious” trilogy sets a unique and original course for fiction of the future, and paints a timely, prescient portrait of today’s globalized society… and what may exist beyond the realm of our current understanding.
“The ultimate in altruism lives at the heart of the Percivious Trilogy,” share JJ & AJ of their inspiration to pen this series. “Something pure that has been lost is now found in a new version of our own evolution.”
One of summer 2020’s most exciting Canadian fiction debuts, Percivious Insomnia will be released in hardcover, paperback and ebook on August 4, 2020, with an audiobook edition to follow in Fall 2020.

Percivious Insomnia (Percivious Trilogy, Book #1) will be available in August 2020 in hardcover, paperback and ebook formats wherever books are sold. The audiobook edition will be released in Fall 2020.

Synopsis:
In the west of the 1890s, Jake’s wife is raped and murdered, an image from which he attempts to escape and hide. When two thieves try to take what little he has left, Jake realizes he must face the past and solve his wife’s murder to truly escape the images in his head. But to find the killer, he discovers even more surprises …
Jake McTavish left his home in central Canada when he was in his early teens. After working ships on the Great Lakes, fishing Lake Winnipeg, feeding cattle south of Fort Garry, and shooting wolves on the prairies, he starts his own cattle operation in the foothills of the western mountains. Then he meets his life-long partner, Anna.
Jake and Anna were married three years when it all came crashing down. He came home to find his beautiful wife raped and murdered.
In an attempt to escape the vision of his butchered wife and all that he lost, Jake runs deep into the mountains, where he spends three years trapping and panning gold. When two outlaws attempt to rob him and leave him for dead, Jake finally comes out of the stupor he has lived in and begins to fight back.
First he deals with the two thugs. Next he returns to his homestead to find his wife’s killer. Solving a murder after several years is no easy task, especially when it includes surprises he didn’t want to find.

The forgoing is the bio from the back of my novels and one might conclude from this information that I was a poor employee ... either lazy or didn't know what I was doing ... and was kicked off a lot of jobs.
You would be partially correct, at least in surmising that I don't know what I am doing. As for my being a poor employee, you would have to ask my bosses ... although I think I've managed to trick the one I have now.
Of course, when I had my own business my boss thought I was marvelous.
Truthfully, I've managed over the years to find employment regardless of my location or the problems that might exist with the economy. I enjoyed much of that experience at the time and am glad that I attained it.
I've also visited a good portion of North America and lived in several areas of Canada where I met some great people and enjoyed some wonderful country.
Speaking of great people, Karen and I are parents to four great people who have supplied eight grandchildren who show that improvements can be possible in each generation. One of those has added a great-grand daughter to the line.

Title: Temple Dancer by Amy Weintraub
Genre: Spiritual Thriller |  Pages: 300 |  ISBN: 9780974738062
Release Date: September 2020 |  Publisher: Tumamoc Press
Synopsis:

In a spiritual thriller that connects the lives of two presumably disconnected women, Temple Dancer burrows deep into the mirroring stories of both Wendy Rabin and Saraswati as they explore the divine connection. Set in India in 1997, and later at an ashram in Buckingham, Virginia in 2016, Temple Dancer begins when Wendy takes a spiritual pilgrimage to India following a painful divorce. On a crowded train in the midst of Wendy’s excursion, she meets Saraswati, an enigmatic older woman who claims to have been a temple dancer. The mysterious encounter between the two leaves Wendy with Saraswati’s diary and a request that she honor the profaned culture by sharing her story. Twenty years later, after having lost the diary’s translation, its inexplicable reappearance forces Wendy to face her difficult past. Her reading and meditation trigger flashbacks of her painful mistakes in the trance of love.

ABOUT The AUTHOR      Although I’m best known for my books and teachings on Yoga and mental health, Yoga for Depression (Broadway Books) and Yoga Skills for Therapists (W.W. Norton), my passion, ever-since I picked up a pencil in the second grade to write a book like the ones I loved (those Dana Sisters and Nancy Drew mystery series), was to write fiction. I grew up in Pittsburgh before it was green and beautiful. I read to find a brighter place in other worlds, and I wanted to write books that could meet that bleakness and transcend it. In pursuit of that desire, I returned to school, earning the Master of Fine Arts in literary fiction from Bennington College Writing Seminars in 2000.
I received the Allen Tate Memorial Award for the Short Story and was a finalist for the William Faulkner Award for the Novel and for the Heekin Group Foundation Fellowship for the novel-in-progress. I also received Second Place, in the Writer’s Digest Writing Competition for Literary Fiction.
I began my love affair with yoga in the late 1980’s, after a successful career in television broadcasting. My own recovery (from chronic depression) led me to research and write books on yoga and mental health, and I became passionate about sharing what had helped me heal with others who suffered.
In 2004, I founded the LifeForce Yoga® Healing Institute, which continues to train yoga teachers and health care providers in yoga practices appropriate in clinical and yoga therapy settings.

Now, pregnant-and-content Kate has apparently made it her life mission to get Amber married, and she has her sights set on Jason Weston. When the blind date falls through, Amber thinks she’s in the clear. Unfortunately, Kate has other plans. Amber is enlisted as a last-minute nurse at church girls camp in Pontoosuc, Illinois, with Kate in charge. Endurance is Amber’s new philosophy, as she prepares for the longest week of her life. My Friend, Merlin – A Realistic Fantasy About Friends, Trust, and Transformation
Behind The Story From Pitch To Publish
Spokane, Washington USA August 17, 2020
BOOK BLURB:

Looking up I could see I had mere seconds before it was my turn to pitch my story to Brendan Deneen, the Editor for MacMillan Publishing behind the hit series The Walking Dead. I finished scribbling the last line and did the best to hide that I was still out of breath and shaking from running across Manhattan. To my horror I had thirty seconds before I was on my feet, giving the pitch I had just finished. After my pitch I looked at him, and he eyed me a moment before stating, “You could write that story poorly and it would still sell. When it’s ready I want it.” A wave of validation coursed through my whole body—he had just answered the two questions I had come for. Was I cut out for this, and is there something to the geography of genius? Is opportunity and excellence more accessible in certain places? Answered. Both of them. But now the next question. What matters more: motive, or outcome? It would all come down to execution. A golden premise on a silver platter. Would I blow this opportunity? Only time would tell.
Four years later, after internalizing the reality that novel writing and screenwriting are converging, I employed the method and structure of both to arrive at a polished manuscript. The story’s development and pace surprised me, many of the components weaving themselves in a process of flow I can only express as miraculous. The emotional development and arc of all the characters impressed me with the sensation that this story has true potential. After all this time, I believe I have my answer. I’m proud of this one. It has legs, it can actually go somewhere.

Meet the Author:
Paula and Rosie Quinn are the founders of Coming Up Rosies, a nonprofit dedicated to fulfilling Rosie’s dream to make bald kids like her smile confidently. At two years old, Rosie was diagnosed with alopecia universalis, an incurable autoimmune disease that results in baldness. From a young age, Rosie taught her parents how to embrace her difference by coming up with magical adventures of her hair each night before bed. Despite Rosie’s confidence, awkward questions and comments about her baldness started to bother Rosie. One day, her parents surprised her with a head scarf made from one of her paintings. Rosie immediately felt confident again, and wanted to share this feeling of pride with all bald children. Rosie lives in Chicago with her sister Caroline, her parents Paula and Larry, and their bernedoodle, Enzo. As a family, they love to go to Cubs games, have dance parties, and cook Italian dinners at home.

Alexa's a Spy and Other Things to Be Ticked off About: Humorous Essays on the Hassles of Our Time by Dorothy Rosby

BOOK BLURB
Alexa’s a Spy and Other Things to Worry About is part comical call to arms and part tongue-in-cheek tirade. It’s a good-natured rant about what brings us down during the day and keeps us up through the night, a collection of humorous essays that laugh in the face of the peace thieves and the joy robbers; from the spammers and scammers to the people trashing our planet and the ones trashing our homes. (Who, us?) Too much stuff, too much noise, too much technology. Not enough patience, not enough kindness, not enough…chocolate?
As a syndicated humor columnist, Dorothy Rosby has been ranting for more than 20 years in publications across the west and Midwest. If her latest book doesn’t change the world, and most likely it won’t, readers may at least go down the tubes together, knowing how really foolish we’re all being.

The Great Liquor War by D. M. McGowan
  • 199 pages |  ISBN : 1681810859
  • Publisher : Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Agency (September 29, 2015)
  • Synopsis:
The year is 1885. Hank James has been in Canada several months panning gold from a stream near Roswell, British Columbia. When he hears a prizefight will be held in town, he attends along with everyone for miles around. With a little help from the fight referee, he wins big betting on the fight.
Having realized that the life of a miner isn’t nearly as romantic or rewarding as he expected, and with advice from the policeman who helped him win money on the fight, Hank goes to Farwell to haul freight with pack horses for contractors building the transcontinental railroad.
The railroad’s security, a detachment of North West Mounted Police, have maintained across the West that no liquor be allowed one mile on either side of the rail bed. Provincial authorities disagree.
Hank James believes in honoring and repaying his debts, but that doesn’t mean he should be involved in a war between the BC Provincial Police and the North West Mounted. He and his partners have trouble enough running their freight business, they don’t need to be caught between competing policemen. They are already stuck between Canada’s transcontinental railroad people and the contractors doing the actual construction.
While the police are fighting one another, who is looking for criminals, particularly those stealing Hank’s horses?

The Onyx Renaissance by Melvin L. Jones

BOOK BLURB:

        “Excellence, with no regrets”...
“Chill Will”, “Benji”, “Big Mel”, “Juice” and “Ice”. Will Appling, Owen Benjamin, Mel Jones, O.J. McDuffie, and Marcus Teague. Before the Michigan “Fab Five”, there was the “Juice Crew All-Stars” of Hawken.
In the Fall of 1985, five young men from the Cleveland area... two from Cleveland's Woodhill Park neighborhood, and three from Warrensville Heights, began their high school experience at Hawken School: a private school on the outskirts of Cleveland in Gates Mills.
In the three years they attended Hawken, the “Juice Crew” changed the way people looked at the school as a whole; athletically and socially. While at the same time, these five young men saw civic, cultural and economic differences; things they never dreamed of experiencing while living around the inner city of Cleveland. In an era where social media was relegated to newspapers, radio and television, the “Juice Crew” brought notoriety to a school that was widely considered to be... “a school for bookworms”.
“The Onyx Renaissance” chronicles the story of how these five young men came together and forged a brotherhood that allowed them to express themselves athletically and socially. Their acts had long-lasting effects on the school located in Gates Mills... effects that were still being felt today. In a phrase, the “Juice Crew” made Hawken... “Prime Time”.

This Third Book is an intriguing Non-fiction about Ancient wisdom for the modern world, demonstrating that 'incurable' merely means 'curable from within'. It is generously donated by John Hunt Publishing.
Picture
SynopsisWhat Maggy Whitehouse has discovered, over more than a quarter of a century of studying, teaching and writing books on Kabbalah, is that, used as a tool for inspiration, Kabbalah is a magical loom on which we can weave our healing, and from that healing, we become an agent of healing for the World. Kabbalah tells us exactly where, when, how and why we may be out of alignment with health, finances and relationships and, just as importantly, how to realign ourselves.

For Maggy, it began with chronic lack of self-esteem which, in turn, led to many a humiliation, widowhood, shark attack, failed emigration, debt, divorce, shame, misery, hatred and what the doctors called an incurable illness which now no longer exists. It can be summed up, in a way, by how the first eight aspects led to the final one and how Kabbalah taught Maggy how to heal them, from finish to start. After all, 'incurable' surely means 'curable from within'.

These first TWO books - provided by John Hunt Publishing - are very intriguing & entertaining non-fiction publications.

Poltergeist! a New Investigation Into Destructive Haunting: Including "the Cage - Witches Prison" St Osyth by John Fraser
Paperback, 296 pages | ISBN:1789043972 (ISBN13: 9781789043976)
Expected publication: August 1st 2020 by 6th Books

Synopsis:
A New Investigation Into Destructive Haunting fills that void, advancing and updating Colin Wilson's work Poltergeist!, this study's namesake from over 38 years ago. Fraser takes readers on a journey from the Borley Rectory to the Isle of Man, and grounds his readers in an historical overview of 'Poltergeist phenomena'. He examines where such events overlap with other paranormal investigations of 'apparitional' ghosts. What do they have in common, what do they differ?
To answer this, Fraser looks to new research on paranormal events, never before published in book form. Fraser contends, perhaps controversially, that ghost sightings are and always will be ambiguous and near-impossible to prove, that only Poltergeist phenomena can be empirically verified.

A GIRL IN THREE PARTS by Suzanne Daniel
(Teen/YA Version of Allegra)
Published by Knopf Books for Young Readers
Apr 14, 2020 | 320 Pages |  ISBN 9781984851079

SYNOPSIS:
Allegra Elsom is caught in the middle. Some days she’s eleven, and others she feels closer to nineteen. Some days she knows too much, and others she feels hopelessly naive. Some days she is split in three, torn between conflicting loyalties to her grandmothers, Matilde and Joy, and her father, Rick–none of whom can stand to be in a room together since the decades-old tragedy that hit their family like a wrecking ball.

Allegra struggles to make peace in her family and navigate the social gauntlet at school while asking bigger questions about her place in the world: What does it mean to be “liberated”? What is it about “becoming a woman” that earns her a slap in the face? What does it mean to do the right thing, when everyone around her defines it differently?

As the feminist movement reshapes her Sydney suburb, Allegra makes her own path–discovering firsthand the incredible ways that women can support each other, and finding strength within herself to stand up to the people she loves.

Readers will not soon forget Suzanne Daniel’s poignant debut, or the spirit of sisterhood that sings out from its pages.

  • Book Dscription:
Guy Ritchie once said that Geoff Thompson is 'a spiritual trouble maker' because he has taken his practice outside the safety of theology, and tested it in the practical crucible of the competitive world. This is a rare book for the spiritual pragmatist.
The Divine CEO is a no-nonsense, pragmatic book about the hierarchy of spiritual ascent. It comes from the pen of acclaimed writer Geoff Thompson; former bouncer, world ranking martial arts guru, and BAFTA-winning screenwriter.
This is a masterclass on how to contract your ego, expand your conscious awareness, and build a powerful internal hierarchy, through mastery of mind, body and senses. For anyone looking to break their negative associations with the world and create a divine covenant with their Greatest Potential (their own internal Chief Executive Officer), this empirical, muscular and direct study of spiritual ascension is the perfect companion. It is the essence of the author's fifty-year apprenticeship in practical spirituality, and high-end Budo martial arts.

Thank you for this Hop  MamatheFox  - mamathefox.com !!
First, in honor of the 4th of July and the American Revolutionary War from which America became a Free country, I'd like to introduce three very good books for reference. I am forever grateful to the brave men and women who sacrificed so greatly so they and, mostly, future generations could enjoy religious freedom, freedom from severe taxation and tyranny and more. If we do not read and learn of the reasons, the efforts and the outcome, we will fail to understand and appreciate what it took for this to happen. Awareness is important if we RETAIN these freedoms and NOT have to make the same sacrifices to get it back!
1776 is an excellent source to learn all about the Revolutionary War. It is an older print book but is now wonderfully made available on audible, too!
Picture
In this stirring audiobook, David McCullough tells the intensely human story of those who marched with General George Washington in the year of the Declaration of Independence, when the whole American cause was riding on their success, without which all hope for independence would have been dashed and the noble ideals of the Declaration would have amounted to little more than words on paper.
Based on extensive research in both American and British archives, 1776 is the story of Americans in the ranks, men of every shape, size, and color, farmers, schoolteachers, shoemakers, no-accounts, and mere boys turned soldiers. And it is the story of the British commander, William Howe, and his highly disciplined redcoats, who looked on their rebel foes with contempt and fought with a valor too little known. But it is the American commander-in-chief who stands foremost: Washington, who had never before led an army in battle.
The darkest hours of that tumultuous year were as dark as any Americans have known. Especially in our own tumultuous time, 1776 is powerful testimony to how much is owed to a rare few in that brave founding epoch, and what a miracle it was that things turned out as they did.
Written as a companion work to his celebrated biography of John Adams, David McCullough's 1776 is another landmark in the literature of American history.

Killing England: the brutal struggle for America's Independence by Bill O'Reilly

The Revolutionary War as never told before.
This breathtaking installment in Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s mega-bestselling Killing series transports readers to the most important era in our nation’s history: the Revolutionary War. Told through the eyes of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Great Britain’s King George III, Killing England chronicles the path to independence in gripping detail, taking the reader from the battlefields of America to the royal courts of Europe.

This is a perfect book for all ages with many beautiful illustrations, so even very small children can learn and understand all about the Revolutionary War from which America received it's freedoms! In this book, Rush places himself as if one of the soldiers.

Rush Revere and the American Revolution: Time-Travel Adventures With Exceptional Americans by Rush Limbaugh and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh | Oct 28, 2014
SYNOPSIS:

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION HAS BEGUN—AND RUSH REVERE, LIBERTY THE HORSE, AND THE TIME-TRAVELING CREW ARE READY TO RIDE INTO THE ACTION!
Join us on this incredible time-travel adventure!
Liberty, my wisecracking horse, our old friends Cam, Tommy, Freedom, and I are off to meet some super-brave soldiers in the year 1775. Yep, that’s right. We’ll be visiting with the underdog heroes who fought for American independence, against all odds—and won! But not before eight very real years of danger and uncertainty. Be a part of Rush Revere’s crew as we rush, rush, rush into a time when British rule had become a royal pain, and rebellion was in the air. We’ll be on hand to see two lanterns hung in the Old North Church, prevent a British spy from capturing Paul Revere, and grapple with danger at the battles of Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill.

The extra special part of this trip is that right here in the twenty-first century, Cam’s dad is a soldier fighting in Afghanistan, and Cam has been pretty angry that he is away. Visiting with exceptional American heroes like Dr. Joseph Warren and George Washington, racing along after Paul Revere on his midnight ride, and seeing the Declaration of Independence signed make Cam see his own dad in a new and special way.
But don’t worry. Along with the danger, excitement, and patriotism, there will still be time to stop for a delicious spinach, oats, and alfalfa smoothie. No, wait—that one’s for Liberty. The kids and I voted for strawberries.
Now let’s open the magic portal to the past!

The Intrigues of Jenny Lee by Alex Rosenberg
  • 336 pages
  • Publisher: Top Hat Books (May 29, 2020)
  • Publication Date: May 29, 2020
  • Synopsis:
  •      A gripping and evocative story of love, politics, betrayal and bravery, which reimagines events of the interwar years.
Jennie Lee was elected to parliament aged just twenty-four, five years too young even to vote in 1929 Britain. From the Labour backbenches, she hurled barbs and bolts of thunder at the likes of Winston Churchill, Lady Astor, even her own party’s Prime Minister, Ramsay McDonald.
The novel intertwines real events with a personal story involving Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons, the future Queen Mother; the womanizing fascist Oswald Mosley; the Great War prime minister Lloyd-George; and the radical Labour MP Aneurin Bevan.
A series of political and intimate intrigues turn history into thriller when Jennie has the chance to radically change the course of history for Britain, Europe and the world.

'...marvellous in so many ways… An excellent take on the twisted, dangerous politics of 1930s Britain and a rattling good read.' C.J. Sansom, author of Dominion and the Shardlake mysteries

SYNOPSIS:
Magic is real, Thomas. No matter what happens, always remember that magic is real."
Seven years have passed, and Thomas hasn't forgotten. He hasn't forgotten the blue of his dad's eyes either, or the tickle of beard on his cheek as they hugged goodbye for the very last time.
Now, with his 13th birthday rapidly approaching, Thomas's search for magic is about to take a radical and unexpected turn. At an out-of-the-way shop filled with dusty leather books, a strange little man with gold-flecked eyes offers him an ancient text called The Book of Sorrows. J.M.’s debut fantasy/magic series originally started as a bedtime story for his oldest son. The story turned into a saga, and one book turned into five.
When J.M. isn’t working on the Thomas Wildus books, you can find him playing with his kids, napping, or dreaming up new adventures.
If you ever meet him and can’t think of anything to talk about, you might ask about Herman the Shark, the Kai and Eli stories, or why Riddle-Master by Patricia McKillip is his all-time favorite book. Yummy Me Feels So Good Kindle Edition by Lion I Am
  • Publisher: Funny Bird Productions (January 7, 2020)
  • Publication Date: January 7, 2020 |  17 pages
  • BLURB ABOUT the BOOK:
  •       Parents this book is a great way to explore and play with feelings together with your children. There are animal pictures that children can enjoy and talk about. This is a beautiful way for your children to make friends with their feelings and learn how to "play" with them. It's also a way to encourage us to keep remembering and returning to positive and nurturing feelings and memories. This creates healthy neural networks in our brains. Something as simple as remembering an animal or happy feeling can change our whole body chemistry.
We can anchor happy feelings and memories in our neural networks by remembering them and "replaying" them to strengthen our "Happy Muscles".
We probably all remember when we were young how feelings came and went quickly and didn't "stick" so much. A simple belly laugh could easily erase feelings then and bring us back to joy and wonder.
This is the feeling of wonder and gratitude for just being alive. Watch as a child loses him or herself with an insect, animal, small pebble. or even a faraway star. They are lost in the feeling of wonder and joy. We can all remember that as our natural happy place we lived in when we were young. We can reclaim this when we give space to and appreciate our children's silent moments of wonder and joy.

Picture
About the Author      The author Lion I Am Dan lives on a beautiful island with lots of trees and animals. He likes quiet spaces in nature just like his animal friends. He enjoys talking to the turtles, dolphins and whales when they're around him. Like the Lion he enjoys relaxing in nature and listening to the sounds of the birds and animals and that of the wind in the trees and bamboos. He especially loves walking along the beach by the ocean surf. He loves playing with children and animals. They help him laugh at all his passing Me's and his funny moods. The children and animals remind him to be grateful for his life here on this beautiful Earth. On a good day he's like the relaxed watchful lion who watches things from his resting place of Self love and wonder. The mop top birds who sing "All there is is Love, Love is all there is. Love is all there is, All you need is Love" know what is important. They are very smart and happy birds. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Shine On: The Remarkable Story Of How I Fell Under A Speeding Train, Journeyed To The Afterlife, And The Astonishing Proof I Brought Back With Me by David Ditchfield (Author), J S Jones Ph.D (Author)
  • Publisher: O-Books (July 1, 2020) |  280 pages
  • ISBN-10: 1789043654 \  ISBN-13: 978-1789043655
Synopsis:
Across thousands of years, people have described one of the most astonishing of all human phenomena: the near-death experience (NDE), the subjective experience of an Afterlife, a place where we apparently survive death.
The more powerful the NDE, the more profound the after effects. The ambitious reset their priorities. Atheists change their values. Doctors rethink their beliefs.
But what if the after effects of an NDE were undeniable? What if someone suddenly developed the ability to produce high quality paintings of their NDE, a new-found skill that went far beyond the artistic ability they had before? And what if that same person then suddenly acquired the ability to compose classical symphonies after their NDE? And their symphonies were then premiered at sell out orchestral concerts, even though, to this day, they are unable to read or write a single note of musical notation. Wouldn't this be proof that even a cynic would have a hard time explaining?
After his NDE, this is exactly what happened to David. And this is his story.

Meet: David Ditchfield.:
I was born in Blackpool but raised in Bromsgrove in the West Midlands. I left my inner city comprehensive school with only one qualification having failed almost everything due to undiagnosed severe dyslexia. The only option open was a course learning how to draw letters for adverts, not a great career choice for someone profoundly dyslexic.
After being sacked from my one and only proper job, I moved to London and played three-chord guitar in various rock 'n' roll punk and pop bands and co-wrote a couple of pop songs with Kevin Rowland. Eventually, I drifted away from playing in bands and things went on a downward spiral in my life. I ended up surviving as a manual laborer, my life empty and directionless. It was at this low point that I had a freak accident and was pulled under the wheels of a speeding train.
In the hospital afterwards, I had my amazing near-death experience (NDE). The NDE changed everything for me and inspired me to reach a level of musical and artistic creativity that I had never been capable of achieving before. At first, I felt compelled to produce paintings of what I'd seen in the Afterlife and then I felt moved to compose classical music, even though I've never received any training in classical music and never composed such music before my NDE (in fact, to this day, I still cannot read or write a single note of music at all). My debut symphony, The Divine Light, was inspired by my NDE and I was lucky enough to have it premiered at a sell-out performance. Since then, I have composed a follow-up symphony, '
The Falcon', which was also premiered at a sell-out concert, as was my Cambridge Clarinet Choir commissioned piece 'Awake', conducted by renowned Clarinet player Andrew Webster. I am currently composing a new symphony entitled 'I Wasn't Expecting This'. I came back from the Afterlife charged with an incredible energy, a burning desire to tell everyone there is nothing to fear after death, life continues on.
Before my NDE, my life had been completely ruled by guilt and lack of self-worth. But my NDE gave me the self-love and confidence to go and try whatever I wanted to do in life and that's a wonderful feeling and I want everyone to feel that way.

About J S Jones Ph.D
J S Jones is a British academic. Her PhD investigated a complementary therapy using rigorous scientific methods, an experience that taught her to apply clear-headed logic to esoteric topics. In her post-doctoral academic career, she has authored a number of scientific journal articles and book chapters. Outside the world of academia, she is now working on a new fiction novel, the first in a planned series and thoroughly enjoying the process.
J S Jones talks about SHINE ON. "The events in 'Shine On' really happened and I was a part of them. Having witnessed this story first-hand, I believe it is a remarkable tale that deserves to be told. David has profound dyslexia, so I was delighted when he asked me to co-author the book because he felt I was the one person who could understand his thought processes and capture his language, mood and emotions to help tell his story as authentically as possible.

ABOUT the BOOK:
      Fateful Journey Back in Time,
Surprising Glimpse of the Asian Mind
The book was published in Japanese for the first time in 1943, and has continued to be popular with readers of all ages in Japan for many decades. The English translation has recently been released and is now drawing interest from readers in many countries. When we read this book, we can step outside of our current modern-day perspective and glimpse into the mindset of Asian fishermen and sealife researchers more than a century in the past. The men display a bold and yet gentle spirit of courage, innovation and cooperation which is rare today, and attractive. The reader feels as if he or she is also stranded on the island, striving with the men in their dilemma.
The Japanese version of this book continues to be reprinted, and has garnered hundreds of positive and appreciative reviews. Now the story is newly available for a much wider audience of readers to enjoy in English. It conveys a peculiarly compelling and intriguing “Zen” nature. If you would like to have an adventurous journey of traveling backwards in Time to experience being shipwrecked with comrades on a tiny island, and yet come away from it alive and satisfied and positively influenced by the experience—this book will do it for you.

ABOUT the BOOK:
After fifteen-year-old Ganpu Aapla and his parents lose everything they own, including their beautiful ancestral home in Katalveldurwadi Dabhol, India, to a forced takeover by America’s Enrone Corporation, they move to Mumbai in search of justice. Ganpu’s family takes up residence in a temporary shack that doubles as a chai shop near the Bandra Kurla Complex in a Mumbai suburb. One day during monsoon season, when Ganpu’s parents are out working, a harmless drizzle suddenly turns into a torrential downpour, which quickly floods the streets.Julie, Rick, James, and Saira, four international students whose parents all live in India, are supposed to be taking a boat trip to the Elephant Caves, but the unexpected cloudburst dampens their plans. After the tour group heads back to land, their guide leaves them with a stranger—a local teacher named Anu—at a bus stop while he looks for help. Local teens Siva, Javed, and Xinmin, enthralled by the Mumbai rains, decide to venture out into the city instead of going straight home after school and find themselves also stranded at the bus stop.
This ragtag group of mixed classes, races, and genders is forced to seek shelter with one another in Ganpu’s family’s shop. While they wait, the intensity of the rain increases, threatening their survival. With no way of contacting their frantic parents, the group reluctantly waits together to be rescued. When it appears an outside rescue might be impossible, Ganpu wholly commits to saving the lives of his guests despite their distrust of him, a lowly roadside hawker. In order for his plan to work, though, he must destroy his family’s only home and livelihood, while each one of the stranded must overcome personal demons and prejudices.Terrified and left with no other way out, Anu must conquer her own fears and motivate the kids to work together, or else the whole crew will face certain death. This thrilling, edge-of-your-seat story demonstrates how courage, heart, and integrity is necessary to change our lives and the world around us.

ABOUT the AUTHOR:
Rajesh Naiksatam was born and raised in Mumbai, India. At age ten, while on the school playground, Rajesh was hit by a powerfully thrown but misguided javelin. By the grace of God, the javelin wobbled at the very last moment and lost its momentum, fortunately leaving Rajesh with nothing more than a half-inch-deep hip wound.
Rajesh's late father, Shrikant Naiksatam, was one of the finest animators and visual effects artists India has ever produced. Shrikant wanted Rajesh to become a computer engineer, but Rajesh was more interested in following in his father's footsteps and joining the creative field. Eventually, Rajesh convinced Shrikant to let him work with him. While training with his father in animation and visual effects, Rajesh had the privilege of working with Prahlad Kakar, India's advertisement guru. Prahlad gave Rajesh an opportunity to direct his first stop-motion animation film for a commercial, which won an Advertising Club Award.
Rajesh came to the United States to pursue a master's degree in computer graphics at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where one of his teachers was Chris Wedge, the director of the movie Ice Age.
After graduating from SVA, Rajesh worked for Tony Ciao’s company Data Motion Arts in New York City, where part of his job was training interns. Visual effects artist John Kohn was one of his interns. A few months after John's internship ended, he went to Los Angeles for work and convinced Rajesh to also move there, inviting him to stay in his apartment until Rajesh found a job. Since then Rajesh has worked with several film studios, including Boss Films, Digital Domain, Warner Bros., Walt Disney Animation, DreamWorks, and Sony Pictures Imageworks.

About Claire O'Dell

Claire O'Dell grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, in the years of the Vietnam War and the Watergate Scandal. She attended high school just a few miles from the house where Mary Surratt once lived and where John Wilkes Booth conspired for Lincoln to die.
