About J.L. McCreedy
J.L. McCreedy is a shoe-string traveler, street food fanatic and (reformed) attorney who prefers writing stories over legal briefs. She developed an incurable condition of wanderlust while growing up in Southeast Asia as the child of missionaries, and has been exploring the globe ever since. She's the author of the Liberty Frye series and The Orphan of Torundi, and writes about travel, cycling and living in other cultures at TongaTime.com.
She currently lives in a creaky old house in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with her husband, an assortment of visiting ladybugs, and perhaps a ghost or two.

Liberty Frye and the Witches of Hessen by J.L. McCreedy
The average ten-year-old girl seldom travels far from home. She doesn't worry about being kidnapped by witches or imprisoned in medieval castles where children meet their unspeakable demise. She rarely gives thought to curses, potions and magic. She certainly isn't risking life and limb to decipher ancient rites and lost treasures ....
But Liberty Frye is about to discover that she is not an average girl.
When a cryptic note from long-lost relatives arrives, the news it brings flips Libby’s small-town life upside down. Soon, she finds herself lured to a foreign land where retired witches, chatty bats and geriatric World War II pilots await. It’s up to Libby to unravel the sinister plot that brought her there in the first place, but in so doing, she’ll uncover a shocking secret that will change her life forever ... if she survives the challenge.

Liberty Frye And The Sails of Fate by J.L. McCreedy'
On the morning of her eleventh birthday, nothing feels particularly celebratory to Liberty Frye. As if being a witch in training isn’t confusing enough, her mother’s mysterious illness has grown worse overnight and her best-friend-turned-foster-sister Ginny is driving her crazy.
Then there’s the matter of the new invention that Uncle Frank has brought to her surprise party. When her freaky powers accidentally activate it, Libby and her unsuspecting party guests are transported into an ocean of darkness. Literally. Soon, they’re running – or rather, sailing – for their lives, chasing after clues while dodging angry islanders and makeshift spells gone awry.
If they have any hope of finding their way home, Libby knows she must confront the dark forces bent on deciding their future. But what she doesn’t know is … how?
Liberty Frye and the Emperor's Tombby J.L. McCreedy
In 1871, pirates roam the South Seas, mystics hide in shape-shifting caves, and the crew members of the Liberté are very, very far from home. Almost 150 years far, to be slightly more precise, and their only hope of returning to their own time hinges on an invisible wizard … dwelling somewhere on a mountaintop in China … who may or may not hold the secrets to time travel. So, yeah. It’s complicated. Also, do witches and wizards even get along? It’s a tricky question, and one that Liberty Frye—a newbie witch with decidedly unpredictable powers—isn’t eager to sort out. It could get awkward. But that’s a risk she’ll take in order for Uncle Frank and her friends to get back home. Success is anything but certain. After all, things tend to go awry when Libby is around ….
The Orphan of Torundi By J.L. McCreedy
To find the truth, she must first uncover the lie ….
Orphaned as an infant, Sam is raised by a pharmaceutical research mission in the rain forests of Torundi. She wields a mean machete, makes soap from candlenuts and is a fairly astute amateur entomologist. You know, the normal stuff. But a month before her seventeenth birthday, she is exiled to an American boarding school in Malaysia.
Armed with little more than her unusual upbringing and church-lady clothes, Sam must contend with her new existence as the world's most socially unprepared high school senior. Well that’s just fine. Because she is determined to solve the mystery behind her banishment and return home tout de suite.
But when she discovers the unthinkable – that her banishment is tied to an enigmatic corporation with illicit designs on Torundi – she realizes the real mystery she must uncover is ... why? Soon, Sam is caught in a whirlwind of intrigue, danger and greed. As she chases this thread of truth to its end, she unravels a plot that threatens her beloved Torundi, her trust in the boy she has grown to love and her own existence.
Blending espionage elements akin to The Bourne Identity with those high-school-awkward-moments (hey, it could happen), THE ORPHAN OF TORUNDI is a quirky, cross-cultural tale of adventure, suspense and romance.
