Stealing the Preacher ( The Archer Brothers Book 2 )               By  Karen Witemeyer, Narrated by: Cynthia Darlow
SYNOPSIS:
A cowboy who wants to be a preacher... An outlaw's daughter who wants to change his mind...

On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. He's determined to escape - which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request.
For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he ended up right where he was supposed to be?

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
This was a very entertaining recorded book! It was humorous, adventurous, amusing, annoying and delightful all in one production!

Crocket was a self-made preacher. He and his elder brother were forced to raise the younger brothers when the were in their early youth. Crocket was the one enthralled with the Bible and tried to  instill its teachings into the minds of his siblings since there was no church nearby. As he grew older he had the chance to preach to larger congregations. Now, he was on his way to interview for a chance to have his own congregation in a real church... That is until the incredible, unexpected event  happened!

Set in early western days, this is a story the reader will want to put down until it is through.

This audio book was narrated by Cynthia Darlow who had the perfect accent and tone for this story. The only problem with her narration was her inconsistency in maintaining the "Baritone" voice of Crocket. Over half the time, his "voice' sounded high pitched and slightly pathetic. Other than that, she did an excellent job including her very apt, pleasant singing voice.

It was an inspirational, uplifting historical fiction with topics of loss, lawlessness, redemption, forgiveness, religious values and principles, plus, romance.

I offer a Four and a Half Stars rating on Narration and Five Stars rating on the story.

Freedom: An Arabian Horse Novel (Wonder Horse Book Five) by  Victoria Hardesty and Nancy Perez

248 pages
Published October 15th 2019 by Publication Consultants

SYNOPSIS:

Freedom was abused and betrayed by every human he came in contact with as a young horse. Despite his promise to his mother to grow up and become a “good horse,” he distrusted all humans while harboring the hope he would find his “Heart Human” someday.                Nathan was born with Autism. He was brilliant but lacked the skill to communicate. His parents tried many forms of therapy to help their son and couldn't find one that worked for him. He grew up isolated, passing his time on a computer learning about things he'd never be able to do.
Freedom's owner donated him to a therapeutic riding center. Nathan's mother got an invitation to a fundraiser for that center and investigated equine therapy for her son.
Something finally worked for Nathan. Then Nathan met Freedom and magic happened. Nathan wanted to ride the Tevis Cup Ride, the toughest 100 miles in one day ride in the world. Freedom's previous owner conditioned Freedom for that ride before she donated him. Four new friends stepped up to help join the horse with the boy and help them make their dreams come true.

REVIEW By LAWonder0:
This is an amazing, heart-rending story about an autistic boy and an Arabian horse.
Nathan's mother knew something was not right with he only child. At the ge of three, the doctors concluded he had autism. Nathan's parents was dissatisfied with the educational system so hired him a Tudor.
Freedom was a registered Arabian horse. However, upon his birth, the owner felt he didn't meet her standards so sold him... the first of many homes he would live.
This is a tale to increase understanding of autism, the problems of abuse and of prograns t aid both situations.
The story is presented by the parents and the young man's struggle and successes. Freedom is also given a "voice" concerning the fear, betrayal and confusion experienced in his young life.
This is a very emotional, intriguing, and insightful tale the whole family will enjoy!
The writing is superb and the story never drags.
I offer a Five Stars earing for this noel.
This was gifted me with no suggestion for a positive review. This is my honest review.

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
^^Note: Originally, I was just going to read/review this second book in the Monsterland series... Luckily, the Publisher could see the error and sent me both Books 1 & 2. Ir would be a grave injustice to the author not to read the first book before reading others.
With that said, although Horror stories are not my "cup of tea", Michael Oken has done a very good job in creating this Horror series. It is graphically gory and the action and suspense is non-stop. The story-line is very creative. Although gruesome, it does bring a few interesting points up for discussion.
The three points which was most prominent in my mind was: (1) What seems so important when one is young changes, and is often embarrassing as one matures. Yet most of us put so much emphasis on it a the time.
(2) When one is put in devastatingly challenging circumstances. one often discovers strengths and ideas he/she would never have
 realized was possible.
(3) When one loses loved ones and a life one feels comfortable in, no monetary means can compensate for that loss.
The characters were all very well portrayed and the scenes described fairly well. Some scenes wee so bizarre it was hard to visualize.
This would surely be a "hit" if it were made into a movie. I am sure those who enjoy Horror films would anxiously attend it and eagerly await the next one.
I offer a Four Stars raring for this Literary work.

When her parents and twin brother die within weeks of each other, Alicia and her younger sister are left in the hands of an uncle who has brought them all to financial and social ruin. Desperate to save her family from debtor's prison, Alicia vows to marry the first wealthy man to propose.
She meets the dashing Lord Amesbury, and her heart whispers that this is the man she is destined to love, but his tainted past may forever stand in their way. Her choices in potential husbands narrow to either a scarred cripple with the heart of a poet, or a handsome rake with a deadly secret
Cole Amesbury is tormented by his own ghosts, and believes he is beyond redemption, yet he cannot deny his attraction for the girl whose genuine goodness touches the heart he'd thought long dead. He fears the scars in his soul cut so deeply that he may never be able to offer Alicia a love that is true.
When yet another bizarre mishap threatens her life, Alicia suspects the seemingly unrelated accidents that have plagued her loved ones are actually a killer's attempt to exterminate every member of her family. Despite the threat looming over her, learning to love the stranger she married may pose the greatest danger to her heart. And Cole must protect Alicia from the killer who has been exterminating her family before she is the next target.
This romantic story of loss and betrayal, forgiveness and redemption, and strangers marrying, will leave you laughing, crying, and swooning. Sprinkled liberally with suspense, mystery, and heart-melting kisses, this is not your ordinary historical tale of an arranged marriage nor of redeeming the rakes.
Fans of Victorian and Regency Eras as well as those seeking clean and wholesome romance with plenty of chemistry, not to mention the redemptive power of love, will love this story!
Dance with a duke, outwit pirates, save a kingdom, and fall in love. Believe in happily ever after.

Snippet:
“Then please allow me to escort you to your carriage,” Cole interjected before the hostess could reply. “I insist.”
A brief flash of alarm crossed Mr. Braxton’s face as he no doubt saw the murderous look that must have been visible in Cole’s eyes. Braxton glanced at the hostess who raptly watched their interchange.
His gaze returned to Cole and he nodded stiffly. “Of course, my lord.”
They stepped outside. The cool night air did nothing to cool Cole’s temper. Too bad he couldn’t just pull the man into a dark corner and stick a knife in his ribs. Perhaps that year on Jared’s pirate ship had affected Cole more deeply than he realized.
Mr. Braxton watched him warily. “What can I do for you, Lord Amesbury?”
Fully aware of his intimidating stature, Cole faced him and folded his arms. The longer the silence lasted, the more Mr. Braxton shifted and glanced around, tugging at his collar.
        “Well?” Braxton finally said.
“I understand you are considering making an offer for Miss Alicia Palmer,” Cole said at last, letting his voice convey his disapproval.
Mr. Braxton flinched. “I have not yet decided. She seemed quite proper at first, but flew into a temper and behaved in a manner most unbecoming of a lady.”
With effort, Cole held on to his rising rage. “Perhaps because you behaved in a manner most unbecoming of a gentleman.”
“How dare you, sir.” Braxton tried to appear affronted but only managed to look afraid.
“I saw her running from a room a few moments ago as if the devil were chasing her. You were lying on the floor looking most uncomfortable.”
In a defensive maneuver, Braxton attempted to collect his courage. “Earl’s son or no, I don’t know who you think you are that you can accuse me of—”
Cole grabbed him by the collar and pulled him in until their noses almost touched. “I think I am a very dangerous man to cross. I should call you out, but I do not wish to further humiliate Miss Palmer. Know this; if you ever go near her again, or frighten her in any way, I will come back and take great pleasure in whipping you like the cur that you are.” He shook the man a little, just for good measure, his temper straining against its restraints.
Sweat beaded on Braxton’s face and his breathing became a series of gasps that had nothing to do with Cole’s grip.
Cole continued, “And if one breath of scandal ever arises in association with her name, regardless of the source, I will rip out your heart with my bare hands. No one will ever find your body.”
        Braxton made a strangled noise.
“Have I made myself clear?” Cole demanded.
        “Perfectly,” the other man gasped.
After a slow, dangerous perusal that always left opponents begging for mercy, Cole released him, thinking his year posing as a pirate had not been entirely in vain

Amihanna doesn’t know who to trust anymore, but she hasn’t survived this long by ignoring the warning signs all around her, especially when her instincts are screaming that a familiar choice is coming: flee or fight.
Her parents assure her everything is okay—that there won’t be any reason for her to fight, let alone flee—but with Amihanna’s sudden return, questions arise among the Aunare: who should be blamed for the start of a full-scale war with SpaceTech, how much danger will the war bring, and is Amihanna truly fit to be the next high queen?
Honestly, Amihanna wants to forget all the politics, her betrothal to Lorne, and the possibility of being queen. Her needs are much more basic. All she wants is a solid night’s sleep where she doesn’t wake up screaming with the phantom pain of her skin burning. All she needs is to live without fear of a mob tearing her away from her family. All she hopes for is a chance to dream of a future instead of constantly fighting for her right to live.
And yet, somehow, everything she does leads her back to Lorne. He always seems to know when she’s about to break under the pressures of her new life. His quiet patience is wearing Amihanna’s protective walls down, and she’s terrified of what will happen if they fall.

Valentine Countdown Blitz & Giveaway - Day 6 - Robin & Marian by Stephanie Fowers!

Picture
Who says Chivalry is dead?
Picture
Robin King lives up to the legendary name of Robin Hood more than he should—a bigshot billionaire and successor of King enterprises, a Prince of Mischief and a rogue who steals hearts ... and maybe even a few kisses. He never thought he’d follow the storyline so closely, until the day he gets in trouble with the law and pays the price—all for protecting his younger sister Scarlett.
Taken in by an Outlaw
Marian is a hard-hitting reporter … or would be if the New England Chronicle would stop assigning her puff pieces. Now she has the chance to prove herself, but it could prove her undoing—since the story of a lifetime might just be Robin King, a ruthless scoundrel, who she swore would never break her heart again.
Making New England Olde again
Together, they must overcome their differences to save their hometown from thieves and corruption. And they’d better do it before someone gets killed. As danger lurks closer, legend becomes life, and Robin’s feelings for Marian deepen as he struggles with sharing the secrets that could clear his name and ruin his sister."

Snippet:
“Midge?” Robin called. “You up here?” The breeze whistled through the warped sides of the abandoned ski jump as he listened for the answer. If Robin had been up there by himself, that would be one thing, but Marian made him a nervous wreck. “I don’t know if I should’ve brought you up.”
      “I’m no damsel in distress.”
She didn’t understand. He didn’t care what happened to him—he cared more about losing her. “Even if that means that you’re up here alone with me?” he teased. If anything, that would get her down.
Her lips curved up on the sides. “Oh, I can leave.”
Wait? What was he doing? This was what he wanted. “No, no, no.” The stars were bright, the view was gorgeous—she was more so—and they were alone. Maybe. He looked behind him.                  “Midge, if you’re up here, I’ll give you a hundred bucks.”
Nothing. “He’s not up here,” Marian said, smiling.
He laughed. “Good, I didn’t have a hundred.”
She hid her face from him, but he knew she was laughing when he saw her shoulders jerk.          Nothing was better than getting her to smile.
Below them, the people from the town were like miniatures. They added straw to the pile on the wagon so that they would be included in the luck when the wheels burned their way down the mountain. The music below him took him back to when he was young, and if he let himself get lost in it, he’d go back even further into the past, maybe to a time when cloaked figures had protected the forest. She would be his Maid Marian, and he’d be her Robin Hood.
Of course, that would make him the hero, and he didn’t feel like that right now. He’d rubbed elbows with thieves and murderers and all sorts of rabble in prison, and he’d barely walked away from that. Marian didn’t know who he was. At all. How did he convince her that he could still be trusted, even if he couldn’t tell her everything?
        “Close your eyes,” he said.
Would she trust him even to do that? After studying him with her big eyes, she obliged him and squeezed them shut, taking a deep breath. He didn’t touch her, only watched her as the soft breeze lifted her hair instead. The music from below was muffled through the distance, as he dug the ring he’d stolen from her out of his pocket and slipped it onto her finger.
She opened her eyes and her look softened on him. “I’m glad you’re not a thief.”
“I wish things were different,” he said. How would the years have gone if they were? Would they have had children by now? Dark-haired daughters with her smile and his eyes?
Sighing, she pressed her chin into her palm. “If only none of this had happened.”
“How about we just start over?” he asked.
She peered down at her ring. “I don’t know.”
This was killing him. He wanted to reach out and brush her hair from her face, touch her, confide in her. Was there a way for her to trust him without betraying his sister’s confidence? He had to be patient. “Give me a chance to prove myself to you.”
The activity grew louder below them. The fire wheel was about to be launched and the torches were lit, illuminating the scene in glorious splendor. Marian pulled away from the railing. “Robin?” She hesitated. He waited for her to say what she wanted to say. “I want to trust you, but I don’t know how.” She tugged off her ring and gave it back to him. “I’m sorry.”
His forehead wrinkled. His ridiculous gesture had turned on him. “It’s not mine.”
She kissed his cheek then, a little closer to his mouth than maybe she’d intended. She smelled of lilacs. If he turned an inch, he’d have her in his arms, but he knew this was goodbye.
“Keep it to remember me.” And she escaped down the stairs. He watched her go, feeling the loss as her dark hair disappeared from his view. Of everything he’d given up, this hurt the most.

Guest Post: What You Need to Know About the Frey Saga

New to The Frey Saga? Check out what you need to know to jump into this world of magic, elves, and fey. (Warning: this post containers spoilers for the first three books.)
     Types of magic
Magical energies are divided into light, dark, and that of the fey. These energies to do not play well together (and neither do their owners).
     What makes Frey special?
Freya, Lord of the North and the Dark Elves’ Kingdom, is a halfbreed. She’s not only able to use the magic of both the light and dark energies, but she’s also half human--a weakness as far as any of the North are concerned. She’s managed to keep her throne despite that though, in no small part due to her rare ability to control animals. She’s been known to use birds of prey, wolves, and mountain cats, and readers can expect a few larger beasts as her talent grows.
     Who’s the villain?
It depends on who you ask. Light elves oppose the methods of the dark and dark elves the light, but both hate the fey. The fey court is headed by the fey lord Veil, whose power is strong enough to shift the seasons. Veil—like all fey—engages in dangerous games and relies heavily on deceit and trickery.

The story so far
After meddling with powers and making deals with the fey, Frey’s predecessor was removed as Lord of the North. A great many lives were lost in the battles that followed, including Frey’s mother, and as heir to the throne Frey has much work ahead of her to set things to right. She’s finally settled into her place as ruler and her Seven and guard are loyal and true, but a darkness was set free during that meddling that threatens not only her people, but all elves and fey.

What’s next
In The Frey Saga Book V: Shadow and Stone, Frey faces her biggest challenge yet. A deadening of magic is spreading through the kingdoms and one of her Seven has gone missing. As fey treacheries and past secrets unravel, Frey’s duty as Lord might force her into a bargain that could destroy them all.

Clown William and the Lincoln County War is Winner of the National Indie Excellence Awards and books one and two are Bronze IPPY Winners for Best Series. Clown William and the Wind of Vengeance is the third book in the series

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
William is tired of all the killing!
He blames Jesse for his plight since he was the one who first put a gun in Williams hand. He feels the only justice is to kill Jesse in a fair fight.
How does a gunfighter ever quit? There is always someone who will try to outgun him.
Because of his physical infirmities, most feel he is mentally slow and incapable. He has worked a system to use his infirmities to his advantage.

William soon learns he is not in control of the situation. He, also, discovers those he can trust and those he cannot.
For all who enjoy tales of the "wild West", this will surely become a favorite series.
It is about a time when only the vilest men lacked in strong principles and when one's word was one's life.
This is a great story, based on facts, to entertain YA and adults, as well.
The characters are very believable and well-portrayed. Th events are well described and the reader can easily visualize them.
The story steadily flows in a smooth manner and action is "just around the next corner".
I offer a Five Stars rating

Robin Elmo is a retired Army colonel, semiretired psychiatrist, and full-time author. He lives in San Antonio, Texas, where he is an active member of the San Antonio Writers’ Guild. Elno’s Clown William series was inspired by the work of neurologist Oliver Sacks, who wrote about the unusual speed and accuracy often displayed by people with Tourette’s syndrome. Intrigued by the idea that strengths can rise from differences, Elno created the unique and compelling character of Clown William. Elno’s novels are often set against true historical backdrops like the Wild West.

REVIEW by LAWonder10:
Carter had married Wyatt and Sean's mother well after the divorce which left mother and sons struggling to survive.
Working as a policeman, Carter didn't make a lit of money, but the two of them were able to at least care for their own, plus, the two boys basic needs..
Carter had never before been married, nor have children. He was learning how to be a parent, but it wasn't easy. The boys seemed to like him, yet resented him making any effort to set rules or enforce any type pf discipline.
After the marriage, the boys biological father died in an accident. Although their biological dad never offered any type of attention to them, the boys still refused to acknowledge Carter as their Dad,
While the boys were out with peers, a once in a lifetime opportunity was offered to them. Now all they had to do ws convince their mom and Carter to let them embrace it. To everyone's shock, Carter agreed to let them go, since he would be there because of his work.
Little did anyone know how life-changing this would be to everyone involved.
The author had a vivid, gruesome imagination. The story "flowed" steadily and smoothly, captivating the readers interest.
Some of the events were surprising, others predictable. However, the story was an interesting tale, weaving in paranormal societies.
Within the book content, it addressed several social issues. including bullying. It emphasized the fact that bullies aren't respected, nor liked.     Whereas the issues were addressed the plot took them to the extreme.
This YA Novel is very graphically, morbidly, violent and is not recommended to those under the age of seventeen.
The character were realistic, the events depicted well and the overall literary accomplishments were impressively disturbing.. There were brief gaps in going from one scene to another.
I offer a Four and a half Stars rating.
*This book was gifted me with no pressure for a positive review. This is my honest review.

GUEST POST
Monsterland by  Michael Okon
Picture
Monster Hunting
I wrote a book called Monsterland. It’s about a teen that must save his date in a theme park, whose main attractions – real werewolves, vampires, and zombies – descend the place into chaos.
The opening of the book is seen through the eyes by Billy, a human, well sort of human. Billy is a werewolf living in the Everglades with seven others like him. They hunt for food during the day and relax at night. The werewolves have a pretty decent life. They live away from society and don’t bother anyone.
The Everglades are so remote; no person knows they actually live there. Until one day, Dr. Vincent Konrad and his cohorts invade Billy’s territory and hunt them down.
You would think a werewolf would rip them to shreds. Not my werewolves. They hunters pursue them in a chase through the Everglades, picking off one werewolf after the next. The final werewolf to succumb to the humans is Billy, who will be put on lavish display at Vincent’s theme park Monsterland.
Vampires have lived among us for eons, but it wasn’t until their numbers dwindled that Congress passed a law to ensure they cannot recruit new members. In order to become a vampire, you have intercourse with one. A bite doesn’t do it, a bite simply keeps them satiated and you sedated while you follow them. Should vampires be allowed to live among humans? Again, Congress has to decided what is best for the safety of everyone.
Finally, we have the vitality-challenged, er, zombies. Poor zombies. The disease ravaged their brain so badly that all they want to do is eat meat. Doesn’t matter what type of meat, they just have to eat, eat, eat. What would you do with these poor creatures? Hunt them? Kill them? They should have rights too, don’t you think?
Should monsters have the same rights as humans? If we hunt monsters, should we be allowed to carry a permit? Should there be designated areas of monster hunting allowed in the States? These questions should be answered before we actually talk about capturing a monster. The law is, there is no law to hunt a monster – and there should be. Monsters have rights. They’re human just like us, with a bit of a disadvantage.

Clown William and the Wind of Vengeance (Clown William series, book 3) By Robin Elno
Dolan rose from his chair with a grimace and limped to the telegraph in the corner. He pulled open a drawer, took out a crumpled telegram, and handed it to William.
TELEGRAM FOUND ON BODY. DUDLEY TOOK IT.
DR. STONE “Seems ye got business in Fort Sumner.”
William stood undecided, studying Dolan’s face. “What do you know about the Fort Sumner telegram?”
“Nothing. Jesse thought it important so I sent him to fetch it.”
“Then I will just wait here in Lincoln for him to bring it.”
A smile curled Dolan’s lip. “From what he tells me, that would suit him just fine. He said if you were to show up to keep you here, unharmed, until he got back.”
“So why tell me to g-go to Fort Sumner?”
“It’s inconvenient to me for you to be in town just now. Unless you’re working for me, that is. I’m taking over the Tunstall store.”
Anger knotting within him gave William’s vision red edges. He took a deep breath and then asked, “Did you forget about Susan McSween? What w-w-will she say about losing the store?” The fact of Alex’s death burrowed in like a tick. “Do you think she would sell to you after you k-k-killed her husband?”
“Mrs. McSween left for Fort Sumner this morning with the soldiers. I’m sure she and I will strike some sort of bargain. After all, without her husband, what other choice does she have?”
For a moment, William considered shooting the gunman, and then turning his revolver on the wounded Dolan. Alex, John, Brewer, even Emily, cried out to him for vengeance. Jesse was the venom, but this was the spider behind the web.
So easy to kill them all, then lie in wait for Jesse’s return and take him too. At least three more killings—some of them murders. Bile rose in William’s throat. What was he thinking? Was his soul that corrupt?
“I think I had better r-r-ride to Fort Sumner. If I can find my horse.

Praise for Clown William Series by Robin Elno!
“I couldn’t put this book down. The premise is brilliant: What happens when a peaceful man is given the gift of violence?
Clown William is an unwilling hero whose life is full of ironies he can’t escape. He doesn’t have control over his tics, yet he was born with astonishing control over a gun. He wants a peaceful life, but in every town William comes to, rogues force him to defend himself with violence.
The plot moves briskly, the characters are complex and well-drawn, and the writing style is lively and pops with poeticism. Clown William comes highly recommended.”
 -Greendancer, Amazon Review

“Robin Elno gives a fresh twist to the classic Old West gunslinger. His reluctant antihero with Tourette Syndrome just happens to be the fastest gun around despite his tics – which makes him a constant target of bullies and miscreants. This fast-paced story keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. The book is sure to satisfy everyone from the casual fiction reader to the most ardent Western aficionado. The first book in a series, I am eager to read the next installments.”-
Tom M., Amazon Review

“A quick read, packed full of action, challenges, twists and turns and surprises. The characters are well developed and engaging. Mr. Elno manages to present William as a strong man and his challenges in a realistic, sensitive way, his handicap does not hold him back. The reader will be drawn into this story and held in awe as you follow William’s journey. An enjoyable and satisfying read. About Robin ElnoRobin Elno is a retired army colonel, semiretired psychiatrist, and full-time author.
