Publication date: June 4th 2018 | Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult
Synopsis:
People fear what's different...

Mira (Mirabella) Foster and her parents are citizens of New America, one of three remaining landmasses after the great floods, and with the threat of starvation and disease looming on the horizon, a discovery threatens to push everyone to the brink of chaos - blue markings develop on people's skin. Markings that allow them to camouflage, but also make them feared, and eventually, targets of violence.

Mira's dad is one of them.
Secrets of who they are and why they're here are quickly unveiled, and though her father and his kind work to make peace, something goes wrong and a war erupts between the races. Something her father is blamed for and ultimately leads to their banishment on a deserted island.
Freedom comes at a hefty price...
Terrified and broken, Mira is ripped from her human mother and is sent with her father's kind to live among the treacherous wildlife where rattlers, boars, and mountain lions run rampant. But just as they manage to find their new normal, a set of unearthed secrets threaten to turn everything she knows upside down. Nothing is as it seems, and their banishment may have been for darker reasons than she ever could have fathomed. And strangely enough, everyone looks to Mira, the daughter of their shamed ruler, and her friends to be the ones to help make it right...
If she can only find the courage. Because after everything they've already survived, this may just be what costs her and her friends their lives.

Burning Bright (Going Down in Flames #5) by Chris Cannon
Publication Date: June 4, 2018 | Publisher: Entangled Teen
SYNOPSIS:
Bryn is back for her senior year at the Institute for Excellence, also known as shape-shifting dragon school. She isn’t sure which is scarier, the life-force sucking dragons stalking campus or the fact that she’s officially betrothed to Jaxon, a guy who will never love her. Not that she could ever love him, either… That’s just ridiculous.

Senior year should be fun. Her parents are alive, she’s finally fitting in, and she’s learning how to be a Medic. But what’s with Jaxon giving her strange looks? He runs hot and cold, and he doesn’t even have the excuse of being a hybrid fire-and-ice-breathing dragon like her. One minute they’re having a great time and the next, she wants to blast a fireball at his head. The marriage contract of doom looms over them--unless this match not made in heaven kindles a flame…

Excerpt #3
I guess I should say thank you for coming to look for me.”
“You’re welcome, though you seemed to have the situation taken care of by the time we got there.”
“Mostly,” he said. “But it’s nice to know that someone notices when I’m not where I’m supposed to be.”
And now this felt awkward and a little too serious. “I guess it really is our job to look out for each other now, isn’t it?”
He grinned. “I’d like to point out that I’m normally a lot less trouble than you are, so you’re getting the better end of this deal.”
She rolled her eyes. “Yes, I’m one lucky girl.”
He acknowledged her joke with a grin and then pushed to his feet. “Do try to remember that.” He walked to the door and let himself out.
She locked the door behind him. Weird how she felt closer to him now. Shared drama probably had that effect on a relationship. Whatever kind of relationship she had with Jaxon, it seemed to be shifting...which was natural given their strange circumstances. Nothing to worry about. Nothing at all.

Playlist for RELEGATION

       1. Rockin in the Free World  by Neil Young

This is exactly what Cassie wants―to rock in a free world, a world without mandatory Liaisons and obscuras.
        2. Don’t Stop Believing  by Journey

Of course the theme of this classic song applies. Although Cassie often feels “as if hope itself had turned its back on [her]”, with Michael by her side, she doesn’t stop believing in her duty and role as the mother of the thirty-first century.
       3. Run by the Foo Fighters

These lyrics certainly apply: “Run for your life with me. Wake up. Run for your life with me. In another perfect life. In another perfect light. We run.” Cassie has been on the run with Michael since the beginning of her awakening.
        4. Go to War by Nothing More

“With every battle we lose a little more. Remember everything that we die for. You are everything that I die for.” These lyrics are particularly significant toward the end of the novel. Michael would die for Cassie, and Cassie needs to remember that.
        5. Mr. Roboto by Styx

Okay, so I had to include a song about robots, and this song features synthesized robot voices. Cassie would hate this song, but it is fun and has a catchy tune. Cassie despises all bots, but they play an important part in this series, especially in RELEGATION.
        6. There’s Nothing Holding Me Back – Shawn Mendes

I included this song for Michael. This is how he feels about Cassie and his relationship with her: “She pulls me in enough to keep me guessing, and maybe I should stop and start confessing.”
        7. Be still  by The killers

This is something Cassie would say to Michael: “I won't be afraid if you are here. You silence all my fear. I won't be afraid.” When Cassie starts to doubt her role in the project, Michael brings her back to reality.
        8. Freak on a Leash by Korn

When Cassie is in the regions, tethered to Liaisons One, Two, and Three, she feels like a freak on a leash.
        9. I will not Bow by Breaking Benjamin

After Cassie is forced to leave Tasma, and run back to the regions, these lyrics are her motto: “All is lost again. But I’m not giving in. I will not bow. I will not break.”
        10. Whatever it Takes by Imagine Dragons

Cassie will do whatever it takes to save humanity: “I do whatever it takes
'cause I love how it feels when I break the chains. Whatever it takes.”

RELEGATION by Karri Thompson
Excerpt 2:

“VW2,” I tried to say as I had just enough strength to lift my chin. A woman—blonde hair, thin build, holding something in her arms. It was Dolly. She had VW2.
With one hand cupping my head and the other against my back, Michael held me against him, the pressing of his fingertips painful rather than soothing as my skin continued to throb and sting. I closed my eyes.
“Yes, we can. Now order your men to do it!” Travel shouted, his voice holding an authority I’d never heard before.
“Do what?” I tried to say to Michael, but I couldn’t control my tongue or the tight muscles at my jaw.
A door opened, the hollow clicking sound of its knob burning my ears. Tires screeched. My head lolled upward, and after blinking, a soldier came into focus and stepped toward another figure. It was Travel. “Take her—now,” he said.
Take me where?
Two more men rushed past me, the billow of breeze in their wake piercing my body like a poisonous gas, igniting the tendrils of nerves at the surface of my skin.
Where were they taking me? But it wasn’t me they were referring to. Michael didn’t move as I remained partially paralyzed in his arms.
Inhaling as deeply as I could, I straightened my slumped shoulders and my head rolled to the right. The girl I’d seen on the stairs lay on the marble floor only a few feet away from me.
Why did she seem so familiar? Why did my eyes continue to sting and distort images as I tried to focus on her face? Why did every atom in my body feel like they were innately conscious, stirring with their own impulses and needs?
They were talking about her and not me. The men lifted the girl from the floor and carried her out the door. Exhaust fumes, the rev of an engine, and she was gone. Pressed against Michael, I watched as the army-green truck became a dot on the horizon. Charles closed the door, his body shaking as he stumbled backward to rest against it and catch his breath.
    What the hell just happened?
As if a switch had been flipped, the torturous vibration of each molecule of my being settled. Overcome with an insuperable exhaustion, I closed my eyes, Victoria’s sweet face filling my mind.

Teaser Quotes:
  1. “It started with me, and that’s where it’s going to end.”
  2. “There is no hope in failure.”
  3. “Those eyes have killed before. Those eyes want me dead.”
  4. “My body tingled with the memory of our last kiss in the jungle, our bodies hot and sticky with humidity, our kissing leading us into a state of euphoria where it was hard to stop.”
  1. “This isn’t the Cassie I know, the Cassie I fell in love with,” Michael said softly, stroking my head. “The Cassie I know would never give up.”
