Love You S'more - Beth Merlin

What a great follow up story. This series is a winner! All three books have a lot to offer.
I love England and it was so fun learning more history from there. I like how Gigi finally gets all she deserves.
I love the characters in this book they went through so much heartache and yet they kept pushing forward.
The characters are well-developed. I could feel their emotions strongly. I laughed and
cried with them. I could picture myself there with them.
The story flowed very well from chapter to chapter and was easy to follow along. Once I
started to read I could hardly put the book down.
I highly recommend this story to other readers.
The cover of the book and title fit the story perfectly.

I give this story a literary rating of 5/5.

I love this book. I love the idea of Camp Chinooka. I liked all the different dynamics of the
relationships in this story. The one with Joshua, Alicia and Gigi has so many emotions tied
up within it. It is wonderful and terrible at the same time. Then there are the relationships
with Gigi and her parents and best of all, her and Perry.
There characters are well developed and it's easy to feel all their emotions. The story flows
well from chapter to chapter and is easy to follow. It is easily visualized.
I highly recommend this story to other readers.

Death by the River by Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor
Published by: Vesuvian Books |  Publication date: October 2nd 2018
Genres: Horror, Young Adult
Synopsis:
A high school “American Psycho.”
SOME TRUTHS ARE BETTER KEPT SECRET.

SOME SECRETS ARE BETTER OFF DEAD.
Along the banks of the Bogue Falaya River, sits the abandoned St. Francis Seminary. Beneath a canopy of oaks, blocked from prying eyes, the teens of St. Benedict High gather here on Fridays. The rest of the week belongs to school and family—but weekends belong to the river.
And the river belongs to Beau Devereaux.
The only child of a powerful family, Beau can do no wrong. Handsome. Charming. Intelligent. The star quarterback of the football team. The “prince” of St. Benedict is the ultimate catch.

He is also a psychopath.
A dirty family secret buried for years, Beau’s evil grows unchecked. In the shadows of the ruined St. Francis Abbey, he commits unspeakable acts on his victims and ensures their silence with threats and intimidation. Senior year, Beau sets his sights on his girlfriend’s headstrong twin sister, Leslie, who hates him. Everything he wants but cannot have, she will be his ultimate prize.
As the victim toll mounts, it becomes crystal clear that someone has to stop Beau Devereaux.
And that someone will pay with their life.

EXCERPT:
Hunched over a bowl of homemade mac and cheese, compliments of their cook, Beau sat at the copper breakfast bar in his parents’ kitchen, watching a zombie
movie on his laptop. The only light in the room came from above the gourmet
stove his mother never touched.
He couldn’t remember a time when his mother had ever cooked or cleaned. He’d
even had a nanny until his father insisted Elizabeth Devereaux take an interest in her
son.
Family dinners were something he’d seen on TV shows but never experienced.
He’d gotten a taste of it at Dawn’s house when he’d eaten dinner with the Moores, but
after his incident with Leslie earlier in the week, he wanted to give her some space.
He preferred to break her slowly, tearing her apart a bit at a time. Rushing her to the
end he had in mind would only take away from the pleasure of the experience.
A soft overhead light above the kitchen island came on, the copper pots hanging
from the rack above twinkled.
“What are you watching?”
Elizabeth glided into the light from the outer hallway, wearing her favorite yellow
robe. Her drinking robe, as Beau called it.
Noticing the black coffee mug in her hand, he guessed she’d run out of ice to go
with her whiskey.
“A zombie movie.” He went back to his mac and cheese, not bothering to turn down
the volume.
Her slippers shuffling across the floor were like fingernails on a chalkboard. He
couldn’t remember a time in his life when she hadn’t dragged herself around the house
like one of the zombies in his movie.
He watched her out of the corner of his eye. After getting ice, Elizabeth walked back
to the counter and stood staring down at him.
He tried to ignore her, but her damned gray eyes were like crab claws when they
dug in.
“What?” He paused the movie.
Her expression was flat—not a hint of happiness, sadness, remorse or concern
lifted the muscles in her face. She’d been that way for the past two years.
His mother used to smile. He remembered how her full red lips would ease back,
highlighting her dimples and carved high cheekbones. When she smiled, her eyes
reminded him of the light at dawn spanning the night sky.
“Is that all you’re eating for dinner?” A tapered finger tapped on the counter close to
his bowl.
“What else would you recommend?” He grinned, feeling cocky. “The brisket you
cooked?”
No reaction. Nothing. The same dull stare she gave him night and day. He didn’t
know if she was rubbing off on him, but lately, a certain emptiness had permeated his
ability to give a shit about anything his mother said or did.
“Leah also made roast chicken. And there’s steak with baked potatoes in the fridge.
Your father grilled tonight before he went back out.”
Her deadpan delivery irked him more than missing out on the steak.

“Who’s he with tonight?”
A hint of life shone in her eyes. She pulled the lapels of her robe closed.
“What are you talking about?”
Suddenly, beating his mother up over his father’s screwing around didn’t appeal to
him. He had a new interest, one who would be a hell of a lot more satisfying.
“Forget it.” He stood and took his bowl to the sink.
Elizabeth stepped toward him and swept the hair from his brow.
Beau jerked back. “Don’t touch me.”
His growl came out more menacing than he’d intended, but he was glad. It would
keep her away from him.
The eyes frantically searching his face were not the lifeless ones he’d grown used
to. Fear dilated her pupils, almost covering the gray.
“What’s wrong with you? Every time I think I know you, you turn into a stranger.”
Beau leaned against the kitchen counter, a smugness surging through him. “That’s
good.” He pushed away, and his mother took a cautious step back, which pleased him.
“Because if you don’t know me, then no one else ever will.”
“What is that supposed to mean, Beau?”
The fake motherly concern in her voice pissed him off.
“You know what it means.” He went back around the counter to his computer. “Isn’t
that what you and Dad want? Don’t let anyone know who I really am.” He picked up the
computer and, needing to destroy something, threw it against the far wall.
His laptop exploded into shards, plastic clinking against the floor until silence
blanketed the kitchen once more.
Beau closed his eyes, avoiding his mother’s terror-stricken gaze, furious with
himself. He’d lost control. He had one ironclad rule, and he’d broken it.
“Beau, baby, perhaps we should talk to your father about—”
He willed his sense of discipline back into place, fighting the urge for more
destruction.
“No. I won’t talk to him.” He could not look at her and stepped away to the pantry.
Her shuffling slippers followed him. “You need to talk to someone.”
Mindful of his still-seething rage, he gently opened the pantry door and got the
broom.
“Take your ice and go back to bed, Mom.” Clutching the broom, still not able to face
her, he went around the counter to what was left of his computer. “I’ll clean up my own
mess.”

Excerpt: (PAIGE)
THE PLAYERS: Paige-The Heartbroken Heroine, Eric-Paige’s Older Brother, Amy-Paige’s Best Friend, Jason-Paige’s Ex-boyfriend
Eric studied me before throwing his hands in the air. “You’ve wasted your entire break, Paige. Books, work, and the occasional TV show are not a vacation. I’ve been patient because I know how hard the breakup was, but it’s time for reality. And reality means getting dressed and coming to the carnival with us.”
I shrieked. “I can’t go to the carnival. What if I run into Jason? I’ve spent the whole summer avoiding him. I won’t blow it on the very last night.”
“What happens when you see him at school?” Eric asked. I narrowed my eyes, frustrated because he was right.
We lived in a small northern Texas town—less than four thousand people—and we only had two schools. The elementary school housed kindergarten through sixth grade, and the secondary school had seventh through twelfth. The middle and high school were in separate parts of the building, but for the most part everyone knew everyone and there was no way to avoid anybody. This meant there was a 100 percent chance I’d have at least one class with Jason.
“He’s got a point,” Amy said. “Wouldn’t you rather rip the Band-Aid off tonight, so you can avoid a meltdown tomorrow?”
        “Maybe I could homeschool?” I suggested half-heartedly.
“If you don’t come with us, he wins,” Eric chided.
Amy nodded in agreement, then added, “You don’t even know if he’ll be there.”
        “Yeah, right,” I grumbled.
There wasn’t a lot to do around here. We had a two-screen movie theater and a ten-lane bowling alley, both of which were older than dirt and smelled funky. If you wanted good entertainment, you had to drive over an hour to Amarillo or Lubbock. The annual Summer’s End Carnival was lame, but it was something to do. Jason would certainly be there.
I chewed on my lip in panic. “What if he has a new girlfriend?”
      “He doesn’t,” Eric assured me.
“Who cares if he does?” Amy snipped, growing tired of my excuses. “There’s plenty of cute, available fish in our tiny pond. You can’t settle on catfish before you’ve tried trout.”
She thought she was being clever, but her analogy sucked. “Jason is not a catfish. Catfish are ugly,” I argued.
Eric rolled his eyes. “All fish are ugly. But trout tastes better. Think of what you’d be missing if you only ever ate catfish.”
“If I only ate catfish I wouldn’t know what I’d be missing, so I wouldn’t care.”
Amy rifled through my closet. “If you want Jason back so bad, then you need to try trout. Lots of trout—preferably in front of him. Nothing makes a catfish more jealous than a good-looking trout.” She tossed some clothes at me along with my towel. “Get out there, look hot, talk to a bunch of guys, and flirt a little.”
“Who am I supposed to flirt with?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Eric answered with a smirk. He leaned against my Taylor Swift poster, because he knew it bugged me. “As long as it’s not yours truly.”
I finally cracked, unable to suppress my laughter. “Um, I think that goes without saying.”

An Introduction to Fate & Fortune

I came up with the concept for Fate & Fortune about a year ago, but I was so wrapped up in my Perfect Series that it was placed on the back burner. Now that I’ve finally tackled writing it, the story has become a labor of love. Interweaving the plots between part one and part two has been much more complicated than I expected; a continuity nightmare. But in the end, taking on a more challenging project has strengthened me as a writer. My hope is that readers will find the premise different and exciting; and as always, that they’ll smile a lot and laugh out loud.

Fate & Fortune: Part One follows one week in the lives of Paige (who has recently been dumped by her boyfriend of two years) and Bryce (who has been crazy about Paige since they were little). It’s a contemporary romance with unexpected and unique twists that imply a magical element. I won’t go into detail because that would ruin the surprise. ? Readers are left to wonder whether events are being orchestrated by a clever friend or manipulated by fate. This book has a fun and comedic supporting cast.

Fate & Fortune: Part Two rewinds back to the beginning of the week and follows the lives of Paige and Bryce’s friends. This book is where you get the subplot of the story; the all-important look behind the scenes. You’ll find brand-new situations that fall within the time line of the first story. You’ll get some scenes that fill in the gaps from book one. And there will also be some of the same scenes shown from a different perspective and told with different inner dialogue. In the end, readers will discover who did it, how it was done, fate’s role in everything and if Paige and Bryce get their happily ever after.

I totally enjoyed reading this book.  I thought it was interesting how Ragnaryn and Graeden started out and how they evolved throughout the story.

All the characters are well-developed and fun to get to know.  They were easy to visualize and I could easily feel their emotions.

I like the book cover and the title of the story.  I feel like they are a very good fit.

The story flows well from chapter to chapter and is easy to follow along.

There is some sexual explicitness in the book.

I would recommend this book to others who like a good adventure.

According to my Dad, I’ve been a storyteller from the time I began talking (which was at a very young age). But, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I decided to take my passion for writing and my love for all things magical or mythical seriously and set out to write fantasy novels.

When I’m not at my day job or writing, I enjoy creating and wearing costumes (cosplay), playing video games (though, I’m not very good at it) and watching NHL hockey and assorted other things many of which are merely time wasters. Note from the Author
Welcome! I’m so excited to bring you my new series “The Kingdom to Come”. This first book “A Great Light” will introduce you to Prince Karhiad, a humble prince next in line to the throne, and his band of close loyal friends who live in the low social status of his kingdom. The crown prince respects his royal family, loves his parents and brother dearly, yet doesn’t align with their views of ruling the kingdom. He appreciates the authenticity that is found in his friends and the lifestyles of the lower and middle class.

There is an evil entity that wanders the world and has an army of supernatural creatures that wreaks destruction amongst the kingdoms. The threat of this sinister beast isn’t the only dilemma in the Kingdom of Merrhius that Karhiad’s father must battle; it is also the rebellion of his son. If King Vilsig cannot get Karhiad committed to the ways of reigning over their kingdom, then he believes his legacy will diminish.

Love is found in the most unforeseen place for this honorable prince. He will risk his inheritance to pursue this love fervently. In a battle of good vs. evil, the power of love isn’t just a shield to ward off the darkness — it’s also the strongest weapon of all.

A Great Light        - Jennifer Ball

This book is full of fascinating adventure.  I like the way Jennifer separates the lands with distinctive differences.  They are close in proximity but so far apart in their beliefs and the way they live.  I really like the mystery of Trinicity. Karhiad and Faith have an amazing relationship and the friendships Karhiad has with his friends are great.
The characters are well-developed and it is easy to feel their emotions.

I am a friend of Jesus who at times fails at making this is my most important relationship. I am a wife who forgets at times this is my primary job. I am a mom who at times didn't get it right. I take lots of pictures that annoy everyone in my family except for my dog. She loves it.
I began writing short stories when I was a child. I would sit in my room for hours writing as fast as I could to keep up with my thoughts. We didn't have a typewriter and certainly no computer. Too often my writing would turn to scribble. I ended up with lots of loose paper with many short stories written on them in half scribble that made it too difficult for others to read. Thanks to technology, I went back to my childhood passion and wrote a story that I turned into a readable book.

That's me, to make a long story short.

MY REVIEW: (LAWonder10)
DO YOU AMD YOUR CHILDREN A FAVOR AND PURCHASE THIS BOOK!
When filling in for a High School Sophomore English teacher during her maternity leave, I was appalled to discover the majority of students did not know English Grammar skills!

This workbook covers punctuation, identifying nouns, pronouns, verbs adverbs,  adjectives, conjunctions, prepositions, etc. and how to properly use them. It, also, covers basic sentence structure, and how to effectively use them. PLUS punctuation marks are included, with simple test at the end of each individual subject matter. You can discover how well you are absorbing the information.

This is written to aid the Middle_school ages but it is a terrific, much needed aid for all! One does not have to be a writer to benefit, nor even attending school. This book will aid in any type of correspondence or communication.

My applaud is offered to Author, Lauralee Moss, for the very professional, easy to follow, grammatical workbook!

The cover is colorful and a very eye-catching and effective.

I offer a Strong Five Stars rating for this book.

Superhero High      - T H Hernandez

I really enjoyed reading this story.  So much fun with the different super powers.  There is a lot going on throughout the story which held my attention from the beginning to the end.

The characters are well-developed and I liked their different personalities.  My favorite characters were of course Ren and Annarenee. They had a great connection and it was fun to see how their friendship grew.  It is easy to feel the emotions of all the characters.
The story flows well from chapter to chapter and it is easy to follow along.
The title of the book fits the story well and the cover of the book is also a perfect match.
I would recommend this book to other readers.
There is a small amount of profanity in the book.

GUEST POST:
Top 10 story ideas would you like to tackle in the future?

I have a long list of books I’d love to write if I can find the time. Here are my top ten:

1. What happens when a girl who leads a charmed life suddenly has her luck fade away.

2. Turning the tables on the MeToo movement where a group of arrogant teen boys finds out what it’s like to be valued for their looks above everything else.

3. A dystopian story where parents are only permitted to have one child, and what they do when a set of identical twins is born.

4. A teen girl learns about homelessness in a big city when she falls a homeless boy.

5. A friends with benefits story with a twist.

6. Taking the double-standard about teens who have sex and placing it under a microscope. Slut-shaming of girls is one of my biggest pet peeves.

7. Time travel. It’s one of my favorite subgenres and I want to tackle it someday.

8. In a dystopian future, a ruler's son is forced to choose a bride from a pool of bachelorettes in a reality show he wants no part of.

9. A teen girl, adopted as an infant from China by American parents finds herself at the center of racism and fear after the U.S. President starts a war with North Korea.

10. Paranormal. But something new and different. I don’t know what yet, but I want to take on the world building that would go with paranormal and move it in a new direction.

SOUNDS SUPER NEAT!

Review by Vickie!
Jaclyn and the Beanstalk         - Mary Ting

This is a fun story.  It has a great love story and I love the way it is a retelling of sorts to one of my favorite stories.  Jack and the Bean Stock. I think the monsters were a good twist to the giant in the original.

The characters are well-developed, each one has a  great personality. I could feel their emotions well.

The story flowed well from chapter to chapter and was easy to follow along.
The title of the book and book cover are a good fit for the story.
I would recommend this book to other readers.

In Too Deep    - Dani Collins
I love the Blue Spruce Lodge series.  This story is about Wren and Trigg. They have so much baggage in their lives and  Wren has so much heartache she has to deal with and yet she continues to push forward always trying to do what is best for her niece.  I really like all the characters in this story and they are well-developed and it's easy to feel their emotions. This story has a great love story and great relationships with friends.
I like the setting in the mountains of Montana.  The story flows well from chapter to chapter and is easy to follow.
The book cover and title are perfect for the story.  I hope to read more about the Blue Spruce Lodge.
There is profanity and sexual explicitness throughout the story.
I recommend this book to other readers.

Paperback, 272 pages
Published July 2018 | ISBN 1524407208 (ISBN13: 9781524407209)

The day of her parents' garden party dawns bright as Lydia Prescott eagerly anticipates a marriage proposal from a handsome and wealthy plantation owner. The lovely debutante plans to steal a moment away with her beau, but her plans go terribly awry. Instead of her intended, she is joined by a stranger the largest man she's ever laid eyes on. And it is clear Jacob Steele is there for reasons far more sober than the party. With British raids erupting all around them, it is his job to reassure plantation owners of their safety. In reality, however, Jacob is an espionage agent, and the truth is dire: America is on the verge of invasion by the British.
Blissfully unaware of the danger surrounding her, Lydia basks in the glow of her recent engagement. But her joy is short-lived—a surprise British attack results in a devastating wound, and her plans for the future are shattered. Lost in her devastation, Lydia could never dream that Jacob, that giant of a man she met so briefly, would prove to be her saving grace. And with a war raging around them, she may be called upon to save him too.

MY REVIEW: (LAWondrr10)
This is a novel with a setting toward the end of the Revolutionary War.

I loved the tone of the story and how a tragedy changed the life of, particularly, one young woman and one honorable, courageous man.

Little did Lydia know, on the day of her parents annual Garden Party, how much impact people she met that day, would have on her future. She was just eagerly awaiting the arrival of the handsome Plantation owner she was sure would soon propose marriage to her.

Jacob Steele was out of his comfort zone in attending this "High Society" social. He was forced to endure such occasions in order to obtain financial support in his espionage efforts against the British invading their country. The only other highlight was the smiling, spirited young woman who he first met after arriving. She was, however, just another spoiled wealthy debutante.

Lydia was assured by her father their home was safe from the path of the British. She felt safe until one night, while her parents were gone for a couple of days, the British raided their home. While hiding, she was caught in a fire.

This story was built on the vanity in society  and of the compassion of those who aren't socially acceptable, sometimes "outshines" the vain cruelty of others. It, also,  emphasized the importance of "not judging a book by its cover".

There was enough action to keep the reader's interest. It was a refreshingly positive approach to humanity. Of the honor which used to exist even between most enemies".

I offer a Five Stars rating.
