About the Book
Christmas with a Prince Rothman Royals, Book 4) Noelle Adams
Synopsis:
I might be a former party girl and the over-indulged daughter of a multi-millionaire, but for the last few years I've been trying to be work hard and be good. I have enough right now to deal with--graduate school, my community literacy program, preparations for Christmas, and my dad's constant attempts to find me a husband. I definitely don't want to put up with Henry always hanging around, acting obnoxious and looking far too sexy.
My boss forced me to take on Henry as a literacy volunteer for the month of December. I don't know anything about him except he's from somewhere in Europe, and he's spoiled, entitled, arrogant, stubborn... and incredibly hot. He's the kind of guy I've been trying to stay away from. Plus he's got a secret--something he's hiding from me.
Now I can't think of anything but him, and I'm stuck with him until Christmas is over.

EXCERPT:
“Are you still lonely now?” His voice was low and warm and slightly husky—comforting but not exactly sexy.

I shook my head. “No. I’ve got my dad now and some real friends, and I’ve got my volunteer work and graduate school. I’ve got a full life. It’s not perfect, of course, but it’s a good one. I’m not lonely like I used to be.”

“Good. I’m glad.”

I felt my cheeks warming as I realized I was spilling my guts to this guy I barely knew. I had no idea why I was doing it. I didn’t think I even liked him, but I still felt compelled to answer his questions, to open up in a way I almost never did with anyone.

“Anyway,” I said lamely, fidgeting with my napkin. “That’s me. What about you?”

“What about me?”

“I’ve told you about me, so now you tell me about you. Where are you from?”

For the first time since I’d sat down at the table, his eyes took on that flirtatious, teasing glint. “Where do you think I’m from?”

I gave him a little eye-roll. “Somewhere in Europe. But I can’t exactly place your accent.”

“Well, keep working on it.”

My soft feelings of closeness to him were vanishing quickly with a wave of familiar annoyance. “You mean you really aren’t going to tell me where you’re from?”

“It’s more fun for you to guess.”

I gave an exasperated sigh and straightened up in my chair. “Just when I thought you might actually be a decent guy, you turn obnoxious again.”

“You must bring it out in me.”

God, he was cute. And sexy. And nearly impossible to resist.

I almost—almost—let myself smile back.

Instead, I summoned all my strength and fortitude and gave him a lofty frown. “Well then, thank you for the hot chocolate. I better get home.”

He reached into the backpack next to his chair and pulled out a billfold. He left a twenty on the table and stood up at the same time I did. “So you’re annoyed with me again?”

“Don’t put it on me. You got obnoxious again. That’s what happened.”

He chuckled, his eyes resting on my face with that amused fondness that made my heart race in a truly ridiculous way. “Ah. I see. I am corrected.”

“You stand corrected.”

“Why do I stand?”

“That’s the expression. I stand corrected. Not that I am corrected.”

“Got it.” He gave me another little grin.

I tried not to smile back. I really did. And I kept trying as he walked me down the block to where I’d parked my car in the private lot behind the community center.

As I opened the driver’s door, he seemed to be standing too close to me. I could feel the heat from his body. I really wanted to touch his chest, his shoulders, the bristles on his jaw that seemed to glint with gold.

I cleared my throat. “Okay,” I said briskly. “See you tomorrow.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow.” The way he said the words was very different from the way I’d said them. Mine had been a casual dismissal. His was more like a husky promise.

I did my best not to shiver as I gave him a little push back so I could open the door all the way and get in behind the wheel. “Bye.”

I slammed the door and tried not to keep looking at him as I backed out of the parking space, exited the lot, and pulled onto the road.

I might have glanced back a few times, but I really couldn’t help it.

Spell Book & Scandal by Jen McConnel
Publication date: October 31st 2017
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Blurb:
Shelby King is tired of living in her sister’s shadow. Just because Christina is the most powerful caster in school doesn’t mean Shelby’s any good at magic; she’s a scribe, like her mom, and everyone expects her to write spells for her sister, the way her mom always has for her dad. But Shelby’s spells fail spectacularly, and by the time she’s a sophomore, Christina won’t touch them with a ten-foot-pole; their parents aren’t much better. Shelby is fed up, and she decides to show the world she doesn’t care if she isn’t as good as her stuck-up sister, or as talented as their powerful parents. In fact, she decides it’s time to break all the rules, magical and otherwise, and she starts sneaking out to meet Jeremiah Smallwood, the second-best caster in school at illegal pop-up spell battles around town. She may not be able to scribe for him, but she doesn’t mind letting him think that she could; Shelby’s been half in love with Miah as long as she can remember, but he’s never paid attention to her until now, and she’s not going to risk her chances worrying about a pesky thing like the truth. But when Christina rats her out to their parents, Shelby can’t control her anger, and words come pouring out of her that she can’t take back even if she wanted to, threatening Christina’s future…and Shelby’s own chances with Jeremiah. It’ll take more magic than Shelby’s ever dreamed of to set things right, but no scribe has that much magic…right?

The 16th Academy by Spencer Yacos - Review by LAWonder10!

11/21/2017

Picture
About the book:
Eastway Academy, a shadowy organization steeped in espionage, values obedience above all else. Although a well-trained agent in his third year, 16-year-old Davy Prince struggles to find his morals when every mission seems to put innocent lives at risk. How will Davy react when sabotage turns an already risky job into an all-out struggle for survival?

MY REVIEW:
The 16th Academy is a bizarre concept of a very unique type of school for orphaned, distraught youth.
After the mysterious and very upsetting deaths of his parents, young David Jones was put in Foster care and had a very difficult time staying in any school because of his mischievous antics.
Finally, he went to far.... He was given a choice of prison or The Academy. Neither sounded at all appealing, but at least there was a promise of having a life after The Academy.

The 16th Academy has only a few students and its curriculum is very different than any other secondary school in preparing its students for the future.  However, it is small and each student receives individual attention.

For an adventurous, action packed suspense/mystery, this is sure to keep the readers interest. It is very unpredictable but at times graphically violent. The ending will surprise the reader.

The varied characters are portrayed in a way they will seem real. The situations are  very easily visualized - for better or worse.

The Book Cover and Title perfectly depict the story.

I offer a Four Stars rating for this book.
*This book was sent as a gift and in no way was I pressured to offer a positive review.. This is my honest review.

Excerpts
“Camelot is ready. The operation is a go,” a voice crackled through the
transceiver in my ear. The mission was being initiated and a part of me was
annoyed. Only halfway through my fried chicken, I was still pretty hungry. I
hadn’t eaten since the night before, since the plane ride down that morning
served no breakfast. Given that I was going to meet with a drug kingpin in a
few minutes, the last thing I wanted was for my stomach to be growling.
I sat in the first floor food court of the Franklin Building, El Paso’s premier
commercial block and the headquarters of the global fast food chain Beef n’
Wings. It was just after noon and the area stirred with visitors eager for their
lunch. From my position I could see two other field agents, the only other two
in the building. Far off to my right, just outside the crowds and colorful
cacophony of restaurants, a hulking teenaged boy seemed to have the same
idea I had as he snacked on a beef hot dog from one of the stands. He wore
a blue hard hat, with matching blue overalls and heavy-looking harnesses
which clung to his body. At his side he loosely held a squeegee as well as
some napkins, presumably for his meal. After taking a big gulp, his lips began
to move. It was much too noisy in the food court to pick up any word he was
saying naturally, but on the transceiver I could hear him perfectly. Percival is
ready. Let’s get this over with.”

Excerpt 3:
Alex throws an amazing touchdown pass to Dex in front of the football coach during gym class

This was my chance. I felt myself get nervous as I began the play. That’s when I noticed Coach Schmick strolling over with a whistle in his mouth. All that nervousness turned into total fear. The football coach was watching me. He hadn’t looked at us once all game long and now here he was, staring at me.
That’s when it hit me. For the second time that day. Marshmallows. Blurriness. Water running through my veins.
Squeeeeeeeee
I stumbled back and heard myself yell, “Set-HUT!” My eyes re-focused, and I could see that nobody was doing anything, except for Dex. He was darting down the field as fast as I’ve ever seen anyone run. I felt myself automatically go through the motions. Right hand with football by my ear. Follow through with hips on the release. Let go.
I heard Coach’s whistle start to blow to signal the end of class, but he stopped mid-tweet as the pass sliced through the air. It was a perfect spiral. I couldn’t believe it myself as I watched it fly. To my horror, I had thrown it at least twenty yards past Dex. But he streaked toward the little orange cones that delineated our endzone. The ball was definitely headed way over his head and out of bounds.
That’s when Dex did something shocking. Still in stride, he crouched down and leapt up. He looked like a much smaller version of Michael Jordan, going higher and higher for what seemed like forever. At the top of his jump, which must have been at least ten feet in the air, he reached out and the ball landed right in his hands. As if he had wings to help him, he floated down and hit the ground nimbly on two feet, just inside the back of the endzone.
No one moved. I turned to see Coach Schmick’s reaction. The whistle had dropped out of his mouth, which remained open. I heard someone scoff, “Lucky.” That’s when Coach snapped into action. “Game over. Hit the showers! You!” He pointed at me. “And you!” Then at Dex. “Come here!”
I walked up to him slowly as Dex, looking smug, bounded over.
He peered down through those opaque shades, and what came out of his mouth next blew me away.
“Gentlemen,” he began in the quietest voice I’d heard out of him yet. “Let’s talk football.”
