MY REVIEW: (LAWonder10) When Bess was twelve, she lost her mother to an illness which her father, a doctor, could never get over. No matter how hard she tried, her father never showed her gratitude nor kindness. Now a young woman past eighteen and she began to feel there was more in life she wished than cooking, cleaning and assisting her father. Lady Astoria called for Dr. White and his daughter to come to her estate. Upon their arrival, Lady Astoria greeted them. Her son, who had a heart defect, wanted to spend his last weeks, or days, at his country home of Astoria. While her father was examining Hugh, Lady Astoria pulled Bess aside and offered a proposition which could change her life forever if she accepted. Would she truly have the courage to accept? This is one of talented author, Anita Stansfield's best novels. There is sufficient intrigue, romance mystery and suspense, all in on very well written novel, to keep the reader totally engrossed. The characters feel like close acquaintances and the scenes easily visualized,\. The book title and cover are "fitting" but nit as impressive as they could be. I offer a Five Stars rating. *This book was sent by the publisher with no request for a positive review. This is my honest review. ![]()
