This is an exciting new Christian-based cowboy/romance series. Each book is about a different brother so each can be read as a stand-alone.

This story is about a star tennis player who injured her shoulder and is persuaded to attend a newly opened health and recovery ranch.  She is obsessed to heal enough to continue her last two major competitions.

This is also about a Christian recovery group for various types of addicts.

Derin has an addiction he is trying to overcome. With the help of his group and best friend, he has been able to control it for several months. He was hired onto this new recovery ranch his brother opened. The staff trusts him, but can he trust himself?

He recognizes the tennis star, Madison Moore. He is immediately attracted to her. The attraction increases but how does she feel? How can he even consider a relationship, considering his past?

The story was well-written and very interesting. The storyline never dragged. The characters were developed well and felt very real. It was a story a reader can easily connect with.

I listened to the audiobook. The Narration was done well as far as the emphasis and emotions but the “voice” of the grandfather sounded like a young man. More annoying was the “voice” of Derin, who was supposed to be “smooth” and charming sounded raspy like a man who had been a c”hain-smoker” for decades. He certainly did not sound like an appealing man in his twenties. The story would have been great had those two “voices” been a  better “fit”.

I offer a Five-Stars rating for the story and a Four Stars rating for the audio.

Well, it’s really Valerie Comer’s fault. You see, back in 2022, I gave up TV. I went back through my eReader to find indie authors I had read more than a decade before. Then I discovered that Val Comer had recently released another book in her Saddle Springs Romance series. I picked up the first book, The Cowboy’s Christmas Reunion, and it instantly hooked me on the genre. I read the entire series in a few weeks, then moved on to her next series while discovering new favorites, like Jill Kemerer, Linda Goodnight, Jessie Gussman, and Mandi Blake.

Having just wrapped up my Christian historical western romance Colter Sons series, the ideas for a contemporary Christian cowboy romance were born! I set all my books in the state of Arizona in the United States. It’s rarely used as a setting, but it is the state I’ve called home for over twenty years. We are also known for the gunfight at the O.K. Corral and other legendary wild-west tales.

As I mapped out the Vargas Ranch Series, I wanted to follow five brothers from a very conservative Christian family. Arizona is known for tourism because of our perfect winter weather of sunshine and mild temperatures. So, I made the ranch a guest ranch and resort.

Then I dreamed about what five brothers might be like, given their family background. Before I knew it, I was writing a family motto and creating five men with very different personalities—one thing I really enjoyed about Val Comer’s Saddle Springs series.

Though Dalton, Dylan, Derin, Devon, and Drake grew up in the same home with the same family values and strong faith, each man must confront his own weaknesses and truly learn to live out their faith. Dalton is the responsible one. Dylan is the shy one. Derin is the wild and bossy one, with a surprisingly sensitive side. Devon is wicked smart and full of so much potential. Drake, the baby, is dealt a shocking blow that turns his sweet disposition sour for a time. Don’t worry, God works in each of their lives to change their hearts, strengthen their faith, and bring them each the perfect woman.

That, dear readers, is why it’s all Valerie Comer’s fault I’m hooked on this genre as a writer and reader!
