Writer’s dream coming true. Getting into a bookstore.

As a kid, I knew I wanted to write. Well, I didn’t know that’s what it was that I wanted to do, but I knew I had stories in me and when they began to pour out, I was told I was storyteller and not as a compliment. As I got older, I began to understand I wanted to write books. I read a lot, and I imagined one day I would write my own book.

Life got busy, I met a boy, who turned me into a wife, a mom, and an overall caretaker who lost track of time between practice, homework and still figuring out life. But the kids grew up and out of the house and I was left to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. As it turns out, it was a writer.

When I was on my own and the house was so silent it was deafening, I opened myself up and
threw myself right onto pages and sent off stories about my life for the world to read, critique, and learn from. It wasn’t until I wrote my fiction book, The Wedding, that I felt like a “real author”.

I had written my first two books, Signs in the Rearview Mirror Leaving a Toxic Relationship
Behind, and Out of the Darkness to help others see that leaving a toxic relationship is not the end of your life and if you heal, you will find healthy love. But for some reason, in my head, I did not consider myself an author until my first fiction book was published. On that day, I sat silently and thought back to the naysayers and negative nellys and told myself I won, and I did.

On the day I discovered a bookshop here in Austin, had ordered copies of The Wedding, from my publisher, to sell in their store, I celebrated! Not only was I an author of a fiction book, but a bookshop saw my book and decided it was good enough to put on their shelves. I am 5’2, but I feel 6’ tall.

I could have listened to the negative talk and not even tried to write my first book, but I didn’t. I knew I wanted to write fiction for as long as I can remember, and I did it. I tapped into my creative side, developed characters, like eleven of them, and brought them to life.

Today, I am working on my next three books and there is no stopping me now.
