Book Description:
A million thoughts, but only one right thing to do.
Eighteen-year-old Serenity Ashdown has a brilliant mind: she counts, calculates, and analyzes everything, all the time. Awkward. When her father suddenly disappears, Serenity follows his trail to a parallel dimension. The feds on the other side claim to want to help her go home, if she helps them reconstruct the right codes for the portal between worlds. But it’s soon clear they want something more: a gateway for invasion, because this version of Earth is dying.
When Serenity learns that her alter-ego was killed in battle, she assumes “the other Serenity’s” identity and uses her unique abilities to lead the resistance in a mortal fight against the tyrannical super-government that is poised to invade her universe. Serenity has no idea how to be someone she’s not, but she has to try—or she may not have a home to return to.

Review By LAWonder10:
18-year-old Serenity was a Senior at Harvard University. She had a unique minf=d for numbers, calculations, and analyses. Her mind was too set on a learning mode to enjoy any type f social life. She thought there were young men interested in her but she could.t be sure. She never took the time to explore it. Her Father was very proud of her and her magnificent intellect. Her mother was killed in a strange car accident they had when she was 9 years old. Her father was so busy all the time with his important work, she seldom got to see him. She and her younger brother were mostly raised by her grandparents.
Now in her Senior year, she is given the opportunity to work in a special “top secret” facility due to her keen inter=llrct and unique skills. She was excited because it was the same facility her father worked at. Perhaps she can see him more often!
On her first day of working on this new project, she receives a mysterious text message from her father. She soon received a second text message that read “Urgent”. However, when she broke rules by going into his part of the facility, her whole life changed! She couldn’t believe her existence and nothing was what she expected to find.
This is a story about a unique young woman who was gentle, and secure in the love of her family, yet was very insecure socially, as many geniuses are.
This is a story of going outside one’s comfort zone and discovering strengths and weaknesses never realized before. It is about wars, leadership, tragedy, loss, and grief. This us a tale about finding hope when it seems impossible to find.
The characters were all realistic and believable, the scenes were vividly described in a way the reader/listener could easily visualize. The Narrator was successful in even more fully “bringing the listener into the story”.
The Author could not have picked a better Narrator for the audiobook! One would think with her young, feminine-sounding voice that she couldn’t portray the different characters, especially the male “voices”. She was a delightful surprise. She did an outstanding job!
She was consistent in each “voice”, placed emphasis in all the right places, and maintained energy and enthusiasm the entire story.
I offer a Five Stars rating for the story and a Five Stars Plus rating for the narration.
This audiobook was gifted me with no pressure to post a positive review. This is my honest review.
Meet the Author:
Bryan Prosek is a science fiction writer and business attorney. Along with his debut The Brighter the Stars and the forthcoming A Measure of Serenity, he has published books and articles in legal trade journals and magazines. When he isn’t writing or practicing law, you can probably find him watching science fiction movies or television shows. He loves the big screen and the small screen. There’s a good chance that he’ll be watching one of the numerous Star Trek movies or series, but he could be watching anything from Guardians of the Galaxy to The Conjuring.

Meet the Narrator:
Suzanne is a Minnesotan and a sci-fi fan – either of which can take precedence depending on the day and whether there’s lefse in the room or a new Star Wars movie coming out. She is not ashamed to admit that she enjoys 70s music. Just try to argue against Elton John or the BeeGees. You can’t.
Suzanne is also an audiobook narrator with over 350 credits from major publishers including Penguin Random House, Harper, Scholastic, Tantor, Blackstone and Brilliance.
Suzanne is passionate about audiobooks – as both a narrator and a fan. Her narrating origin story involves a figurative lightbulb and a literal couch. While listening to an audiobook she realized that her entire career – as a television reporter, writer, actor and reading-as-procrastination expert – had led to an astonishingly obvious conclusion. To Suzanne, narrating is the quintessential mix of performance and literary artistry. A union of her father’s life-long dedication to theater and her mother’s love of reading. In short, the perfect occupation for an introverted extrovert.
