How to use: voice, hands, body, correction cues, and dog psychology
Why some dogs do not respond
Maintenance, proofing, accepting optimal levels Learn to teach “special needs” pets how to fit into the human world.

Conquer brain-flooding stress hormones and help your dog move from knee-jerk, Amygdala-based fear responses to reasoned, calm, rational evaluation based in the prefrontal cortex of the dog mind. Fearful dogs can be saved and have quality lives free of anxiety.

Review By LAWonder10:

I was amazed at the amount of knowledge this author has accumulated through her own study as well as through the studies of others!

In her book, Beyond Flight or Fright, Sunny Weber shares her vast knowledge of animals, especially dogs, psychological reactions.

Yes, that this what I said! While listening to this audiobook, narrated by Richard Rieman, I discovered many things about animal behavior that I many people have been misled by.

My family has had terrible experiences with raising dogs – mostly purebred – that ended up being given away or left at the Dog Pound after several times paying the hefty fines to retrieve them. I had animals as a child and never experienced the problems we had once I was married with children. My husband and I even had a small dog before we had children, that was like a child in behavior and our love for him. Through reading this book, I can see how we made many mistakes while training him. We followed disciplinary tacts we were tod to by whom we believed were professionals. I find we were taught wrong. We somehow loved the dog enough that he turned out very lovable.

After listening to this book, I discovered the reasons why our family was not successful in raising a dog or cat. I can now see the different traits in each we responded to badly. Luckily, we found homes for most of them where the new owner loved each animal and was successful in adopting them.

The author explains why the ways taught in the book/audiobook are the best. They all made sense. These are from many studies into the mindsets of animals. The individuals have closely studied different types of animal behaviors developed under various circumstances. These are from years of close observation of animal reactions and of failures and successes in adapting them to a human environment.

I think this book should be required reading before adopting a dog, or any animal, from shelters or other rescue centers. It would be wise for anyone obtaining a pet to study and follow this book.It was truly an “eye-opener” for me!

The Narrator, Richard Rieman did a very good job in adding feeling and varied voice inflections bringing this documentary type of sorry, alive!

I offer a Five Stars rating for the Narrator AND a Five Stars rating for the book and the author’s writing of it.

This audiobook was gifted me with no pressure to ost a positive review. This is my honest review.

Guest Post:

Who do I have in mind as I write my books?

My first middle-grade book (The Dog at the Gate) was about dogs and cats I actually owned. The stories are real and as I developed the story line, it became clear that there was an enormous opportunity to educate children regarding animal welfare—especially how animals see their worlds. I had already been an animal behaviorist and humane educator for many years and I came to the conclusion that stories BY animals resonated more than stories ABOUT animals.

The other two books evolved from the themes and messages I wanted to impart on many levels—those themes and messages can be viewed in-depth on my website www.sunnyweber.com , under the BOOKS tab, click on The Pups & Purrs Series link.

Each book’s landing page also verifies the lessons that can be learned.

One of my biggest goals with all the books was to reach children experiencing violence and who then become animal abusers. Youthful animal abusers ALWAYS escalate to violence against people if not intervened with early. Helping such children see animals as sentient, emotional beings may keep, or help develop, their empathy instead of allowing their antipathy and cruelty to flourish—to the detriment of all society.
