Review By LAWonder10:
Based on true experiences, this book was created to inspire and motivate children to be aware of the privileges they have.
Sophie feels like much of her life is a burden until she goes on a vacation to visit family in another country.
This is a gentle way to remind children -and adults too, what we have and must appreciate although it sometimes doesn’t feel that way.
This is a great reminder, presented in a gentle way.
The Illustrations by Lena Bardy are attractive, colorful, and well-done. The Cover Image and Title are well-chosen and very eye-catching.
This can be read to pre-schoolers but will be more effective with elementary-age children.
I offer a Five Stars rating.

What role can gratitude play in overcoming adversity and shaping a more fulfilling life for both children and adults?
Throughout my career as a family attorney, I have witnessed children’s incredible resilience and strength as they face challenging situations. One of the most powerful lessons I have learned is how a simple shift in perspective can impact a child’s life. Embracing an attitude of gratitude from a young age can significantly shape our outlook and overall well-being, setting the stage for a fulfilling and meaningful life.
Growing up, my mother instilled in me the importance of gratitude. She urged me to pause each day and count my blessings, focusing on the positives rather than dwelling on the negatives. When I was about 13 years old, I read a book by Thich Nhat Hanh; it was the first time I had been introduced to mindfulness. This practice of mindfulness and appreciation influenced not only my childhood but also the person I am today.
As a family lawyer, I have encountered numerous children facing adversity, from broken homes to challenging custody battles. These children often gravitate towards negativity, concentrating on the hardships in their lives. However, I have also witnessed how a simple shift in perspective can work wonders for their emotional well-being.
When children are encouraged to recognize and appreciate the good in their lives, they realize how fortunate they are. Fostering this mindset of gratitude enables them to develop resilience in the face of adversity, empowering them to rise above their challenges and embrace life with open arms.
I often meet individuals during the most challenging moments of their lives. In my practice, my goal is to help families cultivate a more optimistic outlook on life. As I assist families with their legal battles, my role goes beyond just addressing their legal concerns; I also strive to help them heal from the emotional impact of these challenging experiences. Many people don’t seek counseling and may not have the chance to talk with someone who can guide them through these trying times, so I make it my mission to support them mentally. I aim to inspire them to embrace an attitude of gratitude by emphasizing its transformative power. This seemingly simple yet profound shift in perspective can create a ripple effect, enhancing their current situation and paving the way for a happier and more fulfilling future.
I feel fortunate that I was able to author Children Who Dance in the Rain, which explores themes like gratitude, empathy, and compassion. With this book, we aim to positively impact underprivileged children worldwide by donating 25% of its net proceeds to international charities.
Through Children Who Dance in the Rain, I hope to inspire young readers to appreciate the blessings in their lives and recognize the need to share their fortune with those who have less. By nurturing a sense of gratitude and interconnectedness, we can empower the next generation to lead lives of meaning, purpose, and positive impact.
Thank you for this interview, Lu Ann! I’m genuinely grateful for the opportunity.
