The Future of Segeno – What’s next for Court of Snakes?
I can never seem to stop myself from writing series. When I started out with my last book series, the Braidy von Althuis books, I had no idea how many I wanted to write. I find myself getting swallowed up in the worlds that I create, and don’t find one book enough (especially in the YA and Middle Grade age ranges) to jam all that juicy information into one book!
In the case of Segeno, the main city in Court of Snakes, I wanted to play a game with readers, introduce a world that is incredibly different from ours, but simultaneously hint at the fact that the world once was ours. One of the biggest joys of being an illusionist – er, a writer, I mean – is that I am allowed toslowly draw back the curtain and show readers all the little breadcrumbs leading to the big reveal. That is what the second Court of Snakes will hopefully be: the moment that Dorothy pulls back the curtain to reveal the Wizard of Oz.
That being said, my next big project is the sequel to Court of Snakes: This Desert Cage. Court of Snakes:
The Sandstorm Rages will answer a lot of questions that This Desert Cage left up to the imagination of readers – Why is the city of Segeno the way that it is? Who are the major players that are behind the civil unrest that Terran and Parisa have to grapple with? Will the two of them ever be able to leave Segeno?
Ultimately, the Court of Snakes series is about using knowledge as power, uncovering truth and wielding it as a weapon against those who would seek to control and abuse others by keeping them in the dark. I can’t wait to continue to bring readers into the world of Court of Snakes in both of my upcoming novels.
The mysteries of Segeno await!
