Review By LAWonder10:
Maya’s Tiny Warriors is a fun, informative way to explain the body’s immune system to a very young audience.
The illustrations by Sharifa Patrick are colorful and created in the popular cartoonish artwork that is so popular. (However, it is one I am not a great fan of.). The facial proportions were off The smiles looked more like scowls. I felt most of the expressions were not good depictions of the emotions they were portraying.
The illustrations aid in the portrayal of a part of the immune system, for most elementary-age students. system.
I felt the beginning pages were slightly weak and needed more depth. However, the explanation of the immune system was done in a fun way and made up for the lack of depth in the opening pages.
I feel this is slightly too advanced by most Pre-schoolers, but will be appreciated by the majority of younger elementary-age students.
I offer a Four-Stars rating.
This book was gifted to me with no pressure to post a positive review. This is my honest review.

Guest Post:

I’ve read that main characters in books tend to be a projection of the author and their own interests. Even though Maya is not exactly me, she resembles many of the characteristics I believe I exhibited when I was younger (but I preferred dosas, or Indian crepes, for breakfast instead of pancakes). Beyond what’s portrayed in Maya’s Tiny Warriors, I like to imagine what she would do for the rest of her days. She obviously keeps a diary to track her daily doings, and it starts with… Dear future me,
You would NOT believe how the first day of school went. Well, technically the second because I was sick yesterday and had to miss school. Anyways, Mom made delicious chocolate chip pancakes and on the bus ride to school, my best friend and I counted 24 red cars (I know right, CRAZY). We learned about long division and grammar in class, so I’m officially an expert on commas, and, I know how many 23’s go in 207 (nine).
But, my favorite part was learning about plants. I watched a Magic School Bus episode yesterday about how plants grow, and let’s just say I was raising my hand a whole bunch. I’m pretty proud! Other than that, I played with my friends during recess and at home, I finished my work before going to dance class. I learned a bunch of new steps today, but that also means I have to practice. Ugh.
To end on a good note, I got 3 new books at the library, and I can’t wait to read them.
Until next time!
Maya.
