Book Description:

Opposites attract and Chad and Sierra are that.

Chad is destroyed on the outside by a suicide bomber while Sierra is broken on the inside by human trafficking. They are each other’s reflection of who they are – beautiful but ravaged by life.

Chad Michaels, an Afghan vet, comes home to a suicide bomber who destroys not only his family but the man he was. Now, he must deal with life as a burn victim — as a monster. But Sierra sees what a beautiful man Chad truly is.

Not all wounds are flesh. Many are inside one’s soul where Sierra Smith’s scars run deep. Yet, Chad sees the innocence that Sierra fails to see. Kidnapped at the early age of six, Sierra was raised to become a high-end prostitute who now dreams of becoming a nurse…someone who helps heal people not service them. But her past relentlessly haunts her.

Sierra and Chad are determined to help each other heal from their traumas – whatever it takes. And, somehow, with God’s help, they will survive to see a brighter day.

From Hell and Back

Chad is an Afghanistan veteran who comes home to face a blast from a suicide bomber. That blast compounds his trauma and takes him from one trauma to two. He is now a PTSD survivor and a burn survivor.

PTSD is usually a result of a traumatic event that may include losing someone close. This “survivor guilt” is what differentiates PTSD from Complex Trauma or sometimes called Complex PTSD. Complex trauma is many such events over an extended period of time as a progression of years or even a lifetime. Many don’t survive.

Sierra was kidnapped at 6 and grew up in the world of sex trafficking. She is a survivor of Complex trauma. She endured a long line of hellish events. No matter how you paint it, this world of sex/human trafficking is a long line of abuse of every nature. Emotional degradation, physical beatings and spiritual threats. It’s a long spiral staircase down into the worst nightmare of the victim’s life. The only way out is the same way in…one floor at a time. Survivors such as Annie Lobert(FALLEN) and Lisa J Peck (SILENT CRIES), share their stories of their escape. Fortunately, they are not the only ones who have escaped but want to help others and expose this nightmare.

The beautiful thing now is that PTSD and Complex trauma are finally recognized as actual realities. Previously, both were considered by many as just imaginings or exaggerations — that a person needed to
‘just get over it.’ To understand why just ‘getting over it’ is nearly impossible, read THE BODY KEEPS SCORE by Bessel Van Der Kolk M.D. This amazing book reveals that there comes a point where neither talking nor medication can resolve certain fears. These suppressed emotions must be faced, thus reversing the stairwell spiral. Doing this alone is nearly impossible. So, God provided angels, otherwise known as therapists, such as Dr.Diana Langburg (Youtube her) who opened my eyes to this struggle. God bless them everyone.
