But after many years the fire engine becomes old and worn until everyone begins to laugh and call it Rusty. Sad and forlorn Rusty is ignored and forgotten. Then during the 4th of July parade in a summer like no other Rusty saves the day in a most surprising and unusual way.
Rusty the Forgotten Fire Engine tells the story of a fire engine and the fireman and boy who love him. It is a lighthearted and multi-layered story, richly told, that will appeal to children and adults alike.
Whimsical illustrations create an air of fantasy, drawing children into Rusty’s world while stimulating their imaginations as they follow Rusty’s journey from hero to outcast and back again.

Review By LAWonder10:
Rusty The Forgotten Fire Engine is a very entertaining story for children. It is about a very much needed new fire engine which over years loses it’s momentum and then through dire circumstances discoveers a new use.
An analogy can easily relate it to real life of humans. There is a lot of activity within these pages. It will be a fun storytime in reading this entertaining book.
The hardback book is well made, attractive with nice quality pages that are quite thick.
The Ilustrator, Jaye Boswell, did an awespme job of ceating large colorful images with smaller writing on each page.
I, personally am not a fan of the popular cartoon-like art. However the artwork was done well. The only pther negative is I feel this book is too wordy for Pre-school age children.
I offer a Five Stars rating on this book.
*This book was gifted me with no pressure to ost a positive review. this is my honest review.

Introducing The Adventures of Rusty the Forgotten Fire Engine By Joe Fisher.
When I first wrote Rusty the Forgotten Fire Engine I thought it was a sweet story I had told to my daughter when she was young. It had an engaging central character — true, a fire engine with a knack for solving problems in most unusual ways and an unexpected satisfying ending. Nonetheless, I had no expectations for it and assumed it would be a one-off.
In the process of publicizing Rusty, I did a book reading for a second grade class in Miami. In the Q&A that followed, the kids asked me several times if I would write another Rusty book. Finally in response, I asked them, “If I did what should I write about?’’ One student said Rusty becomes a water park and another offered Rusty gets married. You have to read the book to see the rationale for the former.
While the latter, interestingly, has been suggested by students in other schools. At the time though I chuckled to myself and decided that both of these two set–ups were too far-fetched to be the least bit feasible for a follow on story.
However, within a month I figured out story lines for both ideas. So, I expanded the Rusty concept to The Adventures of Rusty the Forgotten Fire Engine and started to work on sequels.
The Adventures of Rusty the Forgotten Fire Engine is conceived as a three book series for 4 to 8 year olds. Two books are in print and the third is in development. Here is a synopsis of the books in print.
When the Mayor Himself decides the town of Someport-by-the Sea needs a new fire engine the Fire Chief picks a shiny, bright red one that has all the latest tools needed to put out fires. The new fire engine is the joy of the children in town and the pride of the firemen and townspeople alike.
However, after many years the fire engine becomes old and worn until everyone begins to laugh and call it Rusty. Rusty is ignored and forgotten. Then during the 4 th of July parade in a dry, scotching summer like no other Rusty saves the day in a most surprising and unusual way.
The townspeople of Someport-by-the-Sea want to honor Rusty for saving them during the
“Summer Like No Other” so the Mayor Himself decides a park should be named in Rusty’s
honor. But, finding the right place is not as easy as it sounds. Then when students at Sea
Stone Elementary take Rusty on their end of year celebration at Water World things don’t
go as planned.
Just as Mr. Spritz the Manager of Water World is about to close the park because of an equipment failure, Rusty, with the help of Fireman Jim and Mike the Deputy Fire Chief, once again saves the day and in the process finds a new home in a water park that bears his name.
