Review By LAWonder10:

Bluster Blue Jay is a very informative fun story about a bird that had a very important lesson to learn in being a team player. I highly recommend this book for preschool or early elementary age children. It is an excellent book to teach children good values. Each book in this series helps children learn how to develop good personality traits that are key to good character building. Illustrator Cayce-Marie Halsell did a fantastic job in simply and beautifully creating colorful illustrations.

The Stamp of a Grandmother

The other day, I decided to make no-bake cookies. One of the sisters often makes no-bakes. So, I started leafing through her recipe binder, but with no success. After several minutes of fruitless search, I asked for help and was told, “They’re listed as ‘Grandma’s cookies.’” It’s a good thing I asked because never in a million years would I have looked for no-bake cookies under ‘Grandma’s cookies.’ For one thing, they’re not really cookies (at least, not by my definition!). For another, I consider no-bake cookies very generic. This got me thinking, though. What makes a recipe or anything else particularly your own isn’t necessarily that you added or changed something. Sometimes it’s just the stamp of your personality, and the stamp of a grandmother is love.
That was certainly true of my maternal grandmother. The thing I associate most with her is the expression “You’re cruising for a bruising.” That may not sound very loving, but she never said it without a twinkle in her eye and a lilt in her voice, and it never failed to work. No further warning was needed because I didn’t want to offend against such love.
I have countless memories of my grandmother’s love, but this one strikes me most deeply because she accepted me where I was while guiding me to become a decent person. Many people haven’t had even one person like that in their lives, but I’ve had several. The older I get, the more I realize how blessed I am to have been the recipient of such love. I hope that my books serve to pay forward at least a little of that blessing.

Praise for Fearless and Friends Series:

I just finished reading all four books in this series of heart-warming, lovable characters, who hold your attention throughout their escapades. After the first book, you know the member of the Pond Community behaving badly will redeem her/himself, but how? That is the question and the surprise and the charm of each book. Oh so subtly, young and old alike learn that happiness comes from living graciously, with courtesy, kindness, respect, and compassion for others. My congratulations to the author, Mother Melania, who enables us to learn valuable lessons without lecturing us, and to her illustrator, Cayce-Marie Halsell, who allows us to see the charming animals of the Pond in action. Part of the charm of the illustrations is that they look like they were done with crayons! I loved the effect. The books are perfect for adults to read to younger children and as books for children starting to read on their own. I bought all four for my Godson — two for Christmas and two for his birthday in March. I can’t wait to read them to him. – 5-Star Review on Amazon

Meet the Author:

Mother Melania is the Abbess of Holy Assumption Monastery in Calistoga, CA. She grew up in a house that always had tons of children around, her poor parents had to read to her till they were hoarse, and from the moment she learned to read, she always had her nose in a book. So, it was only natural for her to grow up to write children’s books. In her books, she strives to teach virtue in a fun, non-preachy way.
